Chapters is your best bet. That's where I got the Serenity novel. Although I didn't have much luck with the rest of the books. Have to order them in.

Hope you have a good time!

Chapters is an American company NOT Canadian. Not only that, but when they got here they publically announced were going to try to put McNally Robinson out of business (that back-fired on them). They also do nasty things like buy up (nearly) all copies of novels written by Canadian authors and put them in a place in the store where no-one is likely to see them, and then send them back to the distributor after a bit. Kinda screws not only the Canadian distributors/publishers, but Canadian authors as well.

So, they have a rather Wal-mart world domination way of thinking. Basically, they're evil bastards. Please avoid them when possible.

As for largest Canadian bookstore chain, that would probably be McNally Robinson. And as an added plus, they're NOT evil. There website:

http://www.mcnallyrobinson.com/

Has some store locations:

http://www.mcnallyrobinson.com/content.php?txtFileFileName=locations

If they aren't in the city/cities that you will be visiting, I'm sure that there are several local bookstore that'll have what you want.

*laughs uproariously at the idea of finding Firefly books in a Canadian bookstore*

I guess you might find something if you're in Toronto or Vancouver. Anywhere else, not so much. The most you can reasonably hope for is the novelization, and maybe the Serenity Visual Companion.

Seriously, just order online.

No, I'm not bitter. Not at all.

Sadly, Chapters/Indigo/Coles/World's Biggest Bookstore is Canadian. It's owned by Gerald Schwartz of Toronto who bought it as a vanity project for his wife Heather.

After ruthlessly trying to destroy all independant booksellers, Heather decided she'd really rather run a giftshop. Books seem to be slowly being phased out in favour of office supplies and stuffed animals.

I wouldn't be suprised at the treatment of Canadian authors. I know they've tried to screw the Canadian small publishers.

That said, I've bought the Serenity Visual Campanion and Serenity: Those Left Behind. You can actually check out on-line the stock in the stores for the city you'll be visiting. www.chapters.com

I buy my stuff from Amazon.ca

I know you don't need any ignorant American jokes but it is a big country. If you could narrow down your destination, people could recommend specific bookstores, maybe even give you an e-mail where you could special order and have it waiting for you.

Was that a recent purchase? B/c when they entered Canada they were U.S. owned. Then again, I know Future Shop changed hands Canada/U.S. a couple times within a year just a while back. So, perhaps something similar with Chapters as well?

At any rate, they're still evil!

Everytime I go into a Chapters or Indigo location, right in the front of the store are racks featuring Canadian authors. Plus, I bought my firefly official companion book from the store near my house, and they had a few in stock...of course now sold out lol. I'm not saying they arn't killing small business, nor am I denying they are evil.

The past behaviour remains, but perhaps they've changed... slightly.

I wonder if that's all locations, or just the one (or more?) that you've been to? Anyone?

I've been to a bunch of chapters/indigos, in a few different cities and they have all had the Canadian author racks up front. I'm not saying in the past they wern't questionable, but it kind of looks like they have changed.
