MENTISMORTIS

thought it was about time to introduce myself. i joined the board a few weeks ago, but i've been ghosting a bit seeing what y'all like to talk about.

i've noticed that quite a few of you are sci-fi fans that got into joss whedon because of firefly. i'm the other way around. i bought firefly because i was into buffy and angel. i didn't watch firefly first run because it was opposite angel. honestly, i'm glad i didn't, because i would have been really angry when it went away.

three weeks ago i asked my nine year old son if he wanted to watch firefly with me. i had watched it a bunch, but he had never seemed interested. but this time he said,"Sure," so we watched the whole box set and serenity. and we've watched it over and over since. its about to drive my wife nuts. she doesn't mind watching tv shows on dvd, but with buffy or gilmore girls or something we can watch for weeks without seeing the same thing twice. there just aren't enough eps of firefly to hold her interest. wish something could be done about that.

jason, my son, has this plastic gun. it has a detachable mag, a folding stock, and a thing that looks like a silencer but all the parts are in neon colors to make it look all space aged. he was playing with it while we were watching our new favorite show and i asked him if his gun was "vera"? he looked at it for a long second and responded," No, it doesn't have a customized trigger." i love it that he is as obsessive as i am.

i'm pretty well convinced that firefly is just about the best show ever on tv. other shows have had moments of genius, "once more with feeling" is an obvious example. but overall firefly was both interesting and cool from beginning to end. i realize i'm preaching to the horse's mouth here but i figured i ought to let you know where i stand.

tired of typing. y'all's turn now.

Welcome, mentismortis, to our bit 'o the 'verse!

Please accept this glass of Irish whiskey, if you've a mind to.

I'm another one who watched BtVS and AtS and then to FF, but actually watched it first run.

If ya don't mine my asking where abouts are ya from 'cause in most of the US AtS and FF weren't on at the same day/time. (Tuesdays for the former and Fridays for the latter) And I actually didn't see half of what F*X *hawkspit* did actually show as my local affilliate had the bad habit of yanking FF off to show movies.

Others should be here shorty to welcome ya and bestow fodd and such. Glad ya decided to join us & I look foward to talking with ya.

Really? *waves from Michigan* Wow...with programming stupidities like we both apparantly suffered with, no wonder it didn't do too well then.

Let's forget the schtick about killing all the lawyers; let's just go lynch us some F*X affilliate program directors, eh?

Welcome aboard again!

Welcome home, mentismortis.
Glad you decided to post along with us.
You've a right smart nine-year-old.

I see you've been offered a drop of the Dew.

Allow me to chime in with the traditional
dish of strawberries and cream, and the big
ugly mug of Mudder's Milk.

FollowMal may be along to issue your virtual
browncoat.

In the mean time, come on up to the galley and
question the buffet. We're just icing down a
batch of fresh fruit and up-ending some good
stuff into the punch-bowl. Hot cheese, bao,
brownies, wife soup...something for everyone.

Please try not to step on ShipsCat or into
her dish. >^..^<

We love to find someone new that is as obsessive as we are. I do admire a clever child. Your 9 year old sounds like he appreciates the details of his weapon.

Welcome Aboard!

Looks as if the crew have you well fed, drop of somethin' tasty in your cup and settled in to talk about our favorite subject.

I am the keeper of the 'coats in the storeroom here to deliver your very own virtual browncoat.

*hands Mentismortis a browncoat of his very own*

There you are sir. Sounds like you're mighty handy with weapons. That'll come in handy holdin' the line til the Cap'n comes back.

Glad to have you with us!

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome aboard Mentis! Glad to have you here with us. Pull up a virtual chair and make yourself at home.

I have always been a sci fi fan, but I too gave Firefly a shot because of my experience w/ Joss's other shows (Buffy & Angel). The Fox promos for the show left me a bit flat, but I really gave it a chance due to Buffy and Angel. I am so glad I did.

Be sure to spread the word to everyone you know about the show so they can find the joy you have found in our little 'verse.

Take care & keep flyin'!

Welcome, fellow traveller. Should we be grabbing another coat for the kid? (Hey, he's got the gun, he's halfway there already.)

We're not goin' easy on them, we're just scared of them. we're safer with the soulless, bloodsucking monsters.

My nine year old son has seen the pilot episode...and he loved it. However, I thought some of the other stuff is a little edgy for that age, so I'm holding off on letting him see the whole thing.

That's OK, it gives me another excuse to watch it again later :).
