What question would you ask Joss or the BDH if you could?

What are some of those burning questions those of us who never get to a convention would like to ask?

And if you know the answer, feel free to chime in!

Me first-

Joss: Your writing is frequently praised for it's witty dialog and for the ability of the characters to say just the right thing at the right time. You often manage to distill complicated emotions and situations into simple, but poignant statements. When you argue with your wife, are you able to say just the right thing that makes her stand there speachless and unable to argue your point?

Not sure why that interests me, but oh well.

So Joss, why do write these strong female characters?

But seriously, I would ask him about Shepherd Book's backstory.

Personally, I'd like to think that Joss's wife often has comebacks that leave Joss speechless, if only because of all the strong, creative men I've known in my life, there has always been a strong, sassy woman right behind them.

Then again, we do know that Joss can come up with the snappy one-liner when confronted by a woman other than his wife: http://whedonesque.com/comments/11254

As for my question, I would ask him who the Blue Hands were, and how they killed those guys in Ariel.

I would probably ask him if he was trying to find ways to get Firefly back on TV, or a sequel to Serenity, and if so, how.

I think I would simply ask him what message he has for those of us waiting for more Firefly.

And then ask what we can do to help.

What does he think of this Ace Underhill chap? I mean, dodgy or not dodgy? And more importantly--if Underhill can get the rights away from FOX, will Whedon do a second season?

For my part, I've already signed up. Twice. Dodgy or no, this looks like our best hope, and I'd call Joss Whedon crazy if he didn't go along with it.

"Joss, dude....what's Morenas number?"

Also

I'd ask him sensible stuff about how to pitch a tv show to a network, because y'know I have a script I'd like to pitch...

also - where did the idea of casting Nathan come from. It is inspired!

DISCLAIMER: I am a fellow amateur trying to break into The Biz, but:

Everything I've seen suggests you need an agent and/or a track record (completed productions, published work, etc). Most studios/networks won't even look at you unless you're agented (in the US, at least. It's apparently easier in Canada, if you're prepared to forgo things like actually having a production budget ). You can look around here: http://www.writers-free-reference.com/agents/

Good luck finding somebody that'll handle sci-fi though (perhaps explaining the dearth of SF on film; no way for new SF writers to get in).

You were busy trying to get yourself lit on fire. It happens.

I would ask Nathan and/or Inara, "So... how was that kiss scene in 'Our Mrs. Reynolds'?"

OR

I would ask Alan and/or Gina, "So... how well does Gina/Alan (depending on who I'm asking) kiss?"

Heehee.

If FOX won't release control of Firefly would he consider creating a similar show with new people or would he drop the whole thing and go a completely different direction. like a superhero or maybe not even science fiction at all.

I would ask a nine-part question:

What was your favorite moment from each show?
What was your least favorite moment from each show?
What one thing would you change from each show?

Hey Cybersnark :D

Listen thank you so much for replying and for dropping me some advise I really appreciate it. Look sorry for the delay in responding but I have this rather strange thing occuring with this forum for some reason. Basically on my mac at home I am unable to even open this place up? I have no idea why and I have not managed to find anyone who can help me with this - it only happens with this forum, and it happens on all machines running OS 10.3.2 (i think)

I can only access this place if I use my old Mac running OS9 but this mac is now at my folks (I let them use it) and I don't get the chance to visit long enough to come online.

Luckily I have a spare few mins and I've been meaning to reply to your response (which came to me via email) so thanks heaps for the link! :D

Firstly you're bang on with the agent approach. It sorta works like that here too (I'm in the UK) although there are a few people who will view your work. The BBC is one and also Channel 5 - both of whom I will approach with my TV idea (not Sci-fi BTW) That said Sci-Fi is quite big here at the mo on account of the success of DR WHO, so in fact it probably stands as good a chance as anything else.

No I've gone for something a little more straight forward, but there are elements of the fantastic - not fantasy but fantastic, with drama and humour and a little action for spice :D

Hey how is your pitch coming along, how are you finding the writing process? Hey maybe if you're idea is Sci-Fi you could present it over here I'd love to share endeavours ;) because the toughest thing for me presently is finding enough free time to really sink my teeth into the refinement of the script. I'm done with the Pilot - that's all there, the only trouble is I'm about 30 pages too long, and I'm having to really refine and cut out a great deal of chaff!

This is the hardest part and maybe that's where the real skill is: in basically giving just what is need and still making things coherent. I think the idea has legs but my inexperince is really what's letting me down. I have been thinking of writing the next part so as to develop the next step, because I imagine with this kind of thing the more I write the better I will become.... Hopefully.

Ok anyway thanks again Cybersnark and if you want to chit-chat about this then please feel free to email me.

Cheers very much

SIMONWHO

Well, I got the chance to ask Nathan and Morena a question at Serenity last year. My question was if they'd seen how the two main actors from Farscape had now joined Stargate SG1 and would they like to do the same if offered the opportunity to work together or did they feel their chemistry should be kept to just Firefly related stuff.

However... despite winning umpteen public speaking awards at school (true)... I got up to ask them the question then promptly forgot what Farscape was called. Then I forgot what Stargate was called. Thankfully Nathan's psychic powers were working and he figured out what I was asking. Apparently they'd do Lost together, spend some time in Hawaii in the sand.

So my advice is work out your question in advance and write notes if necessary on your hand. Because I wasn't the only one who flustered, thankfully.

I would ask if there is any way that he could resurrect Wash in "Serenity 2 - Wash Up" LOL. He he he - j/k. :) I would however ask him if an anime or animated continuation of Firefly would be something he would consider doing.
