Geesh...go to work, get stuck in a "Professiona Collaboration Day" thingy and everyone goes post crazy... *pats LA's shoulder* I'm sorry to hear that your marriage is going so poorly. It's been said before, and I'll repeat the message: We're willing to listen, sympathize (even empathize), support and offer comfort foods (chocolates, coffee, etc.) Kidding aside, if you need to vent, we're willing to listen -- even by PM if you like. Oh...Tristan...for some reason today, I remembered one type of kiss I miss the most -- the toe-curler. The kind where it's soooo good that your toes curl -- it doesn't have to be the lust-filled, crashing lips type. Sometimes the quiet, long, yum-filled ones where you're just so into each other that...*sighs dreamily* okay...stopping now since I'm still at work *pouts*. *shakes self sane* MsG, for me, there's gotta be some similarity...As a geek of unusual degree (was an electrical engineering student, now a science teacher whose specialty was physics) I need someone who has a slight degree of geek-iness to understand my quirks. I don't need a s.o. who is totally like me (we'd drive each other crazy eventually), but a bit of a computer-geek, tech-geek, or even theater crew-geek (used to work tech crew in high school so I can call 'em that). JtD: It does sound sad, in a way, that your parents are not wildly in love with each other. Yet, in a weird way, it might be a good thing. There's too many parents who hate each other in this world. Having parents who like each other is and can live with each other isn't the best, but it's still good. *sighs* Y'know, I had planned to go swimming today...*shrugs* Oh well, back to the endless piles of paperwork. LittleAlbatross29, it sounds like you got a lot of good advise and support. In your situation, sometimes you just need to talk to someone. I think you have found out that there are alot of us here that are willing to help. It sounds like you have taken the 1st step in recognizing that it is not a healthy environment for you and your children. Zeek and Whitefall have shared that a divorce can be better than staying in a relationship that is distructive. You have alot to consider. MsG, great advise, and I like your outlook on relationships. Pondering - Do we need to have similar interests in a relationship? We are all unique individuals, so the partnership between 2 people is always unique. I think it's great if you can find things to do together that you both enjoy, but it's not a necessity. More important to me would be to have similar ethics and values. I can be with someone who's a sports nut (I'm not), but I couldn't connect with someone who is deceitful. Although would I really want to be with someone who didn't love Firefly. I think not! James, the mousse was great. I'm going to recommed it to all of my friends. One added little thing, don't think too much about your parents relationship. It's what they chose. *stretches* Sorry everyone! I have been in what might be called a drugged sleep; I took a remedy this morning that will probably address several problems I've been having. I don't know if anyone knows about homeopathy, but it can cause symptoms to manifest before they go away, and one of the symptoms it's supposed to address is sleeping overmuch. So I slept overmuch. Oh LittleAlbatross, I'm sorry to hear that! We're here for you, whatever we can do you let us know! I'm a sucker for accents. I should never go to Europe; I would be falling in love every time someone talked to me. I don't know what it is! But I totally get that, Kelkhil. I nervously giggle a lot. I laugh easily, so it can be hard to tell, but if I'm giggling waaaay too much, it's a bad sign. It's really bad because sometimes a guy who makes me really nervous will be hitting on me hard and all I can do is giggle, which encourages them. Emotional abuse is the worst thing in the world, LittleAlbatross I'm really, really sorry to hear about it! But you do have a support network; you have us! 24 hours a day, there's likely to be someone on. Don't knock yourself out and make yourself miserable. If it's not fixable, then it's not, and it isn't something you should have to put up with It can take a lot to get past, I know. I was emotionally abused by my dad, and it scarred me deeply. Every week it seems I find new damage in my psyche that I need to work on repairing. But it can be repaired. You can be okay again, and you can find the happiness you deserve! I came up with an analogy for relationships after my most recent experience, thought you and all the other imponderables might appreciate it; a relationship is like a person. You have to nourish it every day or it will start having health problems. Once that starts, you have a limited amount of time to make it better, and it will take more work to do so than it would have to keep it healthy in the first place (ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, doncha know) and it takes both sides working very hard at fixing things, at making the relationship better. If it's beyond help, or if both people don't work at it hard enough, the relationship dies. It dies and is buried. At that point, I believe, it can only come back as a shadow of itself, like a ghost or a zombie, and it cannot and will not ever be what it was. You do not want a zombie ghost undead relationship just for the sake of the familiar. I remind myself of that every day. My parents split up when I was 4, made the divorce final when I was 6. More than anything, my mom wishes she hadn't put so much of herself into trying to make it work after it was dead. Now, as an adult, I can look at my parents and be very glad that they didn't stay together for my sake, because life would have been hell. My dad did that thing of nothing was really his fault, and their marriage would be fine if she just did everything he said. He actually said that. Counseling was pointless (he not only wouldn't change, but was very good at talking people around to his beliefs; the counselor actually told my mom that him having an affair was her fault. Can you believe?) So yeah, not a happy scene. I feel kinda bad that I missed so much while I was passed out. But now my two cents are out there. Back to accents! I'm a total parrot and just start to speak with an accent if I'm around people who are. Sometimes I can duplicate it later, sometimes I can't. My mom tells me that every time I go to Kansas to visit relatives I come back with an accent, but I totally can't hear it. On the other hand, I can do an almost dead-on British accent, and a totally dead-on valley girl accent (why would I want to do a valley girl accent? Because there are certain companies we answer for at my job that have a bit of controversy around them and we don't want the callers to know where we are. They all think we're in California if they talk to me because I always answer like a valley girl) I haven't been around Irish accents enough to really do one, but I guarantee after a month or less in Ireland I would be talking like a native. I do prefer a SO with a lot in common with me; makes spending time with them easier. It is important to have that deeper compatibility, though. Whatever that actually is; kinda hard to put a finger on. For me, a big important thing would be wanting to touch a lot. Just reaffirm the connection and the attraction. Holding hands, snuggling, just touching... OK, my mind kinda wandered away for a moment there. But liking similar music and movies is good too. Pfft! That's such a daft attitude. The only advice I can give would be to have a look at as many books in the same genre as yours as possible. Take note of the names of the agents (authors usually thank their agents) and the publisher. When you notice a trend, you have a target! Be sure to mention the books in your cover letter too. Publishers don't always want to know if something is good, they want to know if it'll sell. If you can mention a couple of successful authors of the same genre then that'll swing things in your favour. Yes, I have yet to publish anything, but I've heard all this stuff works. morning all...sorry I'm late. Bit of chaos this morning setting up for the IOWA( basic skills test given to measure progress)and yes this makes Penguin king of a mythical land as well as arbiter of children's progress and teacher's survivial( no child left behind, the kids don't pass, we get transferred or fired)So I am now sitting in a silent room timing all the kids while they take section 2 of the reading:) Anyway, wow I missed a lot Tristan- yes they are organic endive:) Magda- I'm glad you love the dvd...one of the editors is here in Utah so I got to see it months and months ago...but it rocks and I'll tell Jeremy he did a great job! PR- hope you're feeling better gorgeous James- I think young is a relative term. I keep getting referred to as the "young" teacher even though I am 33 now. I will now point out to PR that Canada isn't all that far from Colorado and all...and there's this nifty new invention called the air plane and another called the car:) LA- Hey mine shows love the same way....cooking and making meals the person loves are a way to give joy, happiness, and love to someone without words:) Parents who love each other...mine are bonkers over each other, but I don't think I have ever recovered from the day I was trying to find my dad's chocolate stash ( he hides it from the rest of us, usually unsuccessfully)and found his condoms instead...so maybe not having your parents be overly passionate around you is good.
