Oct. 1st will be moving day for the soon-to-be-ex, which means she and all of her stuff will be out of the house. That night, my brother will be over, and he and I will probably tie one or two on. That next week will be the cathartic exercise; I will be rearranging the house to suit me...turn it into a nice-looking bachelor pad...changing the curtains, getting different furniture, etc. So, basically, my ritual is changing the space to fit me rather than "us".

Does this mean a big ole' party at your house in the near future???

Could just paint the front of the house with the Serenity banner and throw a BDShindig!

Yeah, a BDShindig would be shiny! Sounds excellent, making the space your own.

Chris- LOL when you talked about your joints aching it kind of cracked me up because mine have been doing that since I was 14, but now I shall have to see if they've changed any due to my advanced age:)And great comment too:) Thanks

PR-I've been friend with every ex so I am not sure what I would term my ritual...guess I don't have one. Also, I don't have that many ex's. I only had one break-up not of mutual choice and that was because he was killed by a drunk driver( our senior year was a bit sad)But I've helped friends through it and I'd say...Ice cream+ bitch session +wine +throwing out his stuff and clearing off anything( sheets, towels, etc) that was his at her house.

Magda darling- morning and all...and remember I'm not at work so use the oncemorewithfeeling321@yahoo.com today:)

It's Friday do the happy dance:)

Just painted my toenails and I'm gonna put on a facial mask in a minute and maybe even (gasp) read Cosmo:)
However I had to turn the heater on 'cause it's 65 degrees in my house and our projected high for the day is 51. Love the desert...you either freeze or boil no happy medium of any kind. It's either 85-95 degrees and miserably hot( two weeks ago) or 55 freezing with a rain and snow ( right now) However I dearly love cold so this is perfect weather for me!! Cold and drizzling rain:)

MSG such a dirty mouth on you. Saying that 4 letter s word (SNOW). I hate the snow! I so want to be somewhere that does not have it. Definatly living in the wrong state here (Michigan). Any day now I expect it to snow for the first time. It won't stay but it will taunt me that winter is coming.

I should have stayed in Georgia when I got out of the Army. But then again I would not be married to the Wifey nor have my daughter if I did. I just have to think of a way to move with out the In-laws killing me for taking their grandbaby away.

I'm from Georgia too Kelkil. I guess I've gotten used to the snow ( which is here now in my state. Mountains have 3-4 inches at the moment)Mind you at the moment I am wearing my thermal pants, tank, long sleeved shirt, and my Serenity tee over that and chenille socks and sitting in front of the heater...compensation and all. OMG you have to read the book " The Watsons go to Birmingham" by Christopher Paul Curtis. The mother is from Alabama and in Michigan and the opening bit with the family blaming the dad ( in a humorous way) for the snow will crack you up!

Magda- ooooh staying up late NIFTY

Hey PR have you heard of Airborne? Can you check with your mom and see if it's ok for pregnant women?? My doctor said " can't hurt" but I'd like someone who's familiar with herbs and their uses to be sure. My sis has a cold and obviously can't take meds and I sent her zinc/Vitamin C lozenges and all, but I think the ginger would help her nausea:)

Hey Kelkhil - it doesn't snow in Melbourne - and it's just coming in to spring here too - so your wife & baby and even your in-laws could come here! Actually, lets have a Shindig 'down under'!

Edit: Hey MsG - now we're posting at the same time! - I use Olive Leaf Extract when I am coming down with or in the throes of a cold or any virus - it works wonders for me! That could be something PR could ask about too...?

Magdalena - Sounds like fun I get right on it. oh yeah plane tickets are a little pricy. It could take me until winter there to row over in my fishn' boat. Should time these things better I guess.

Although I do have relatives that live there. they found us doing a Family Tree and came over one summer. It was fun.

MSG - I am originally from Michigan. I got out and came back. Then got reaquainted with the Wifey (we had mutual friends in High School but never really hung out). I was suppose to move back down after a short visit at home. That short visit has lasted 10 years so far and still counting. (Damn her!)

I used to do stuff in the winter. Snowboard, Sledding, tried Skiing once or twice. But as I get older I find that I just don't like being cold (that and I don't bounce as well anymore in my old age) so I stopped doing anything. I just sit inside and get really bored and wish I had something to do.

Maybe with the little one getting older I can find my winter spirit again. I doubt it but maybe.

Morning all,

I've been doing a little avoiding of this thread because a certain poster, who really, really scares me is a here.

But I've missed everyone, so HI!

Let's see, I ended up 74% Mal on the test. Interesting.

Weather: Um, wore tank top out to the barn last night, but it is getting chilly around 8. Still VERY nice, though.

PR: I was a huge X-phile as well. Could name every episode, writers, etc. Were you on Gerry? My favorite X-philes board was MASHEO. I still have seasons 1-7 on DVD (bought seasons 6 and 7 b/c how could I not). I have 6-9 on VHS that I taped. They were so bad I can't spend the money to have them on DVD.

Only having had two relationships in my whole life, I don't really have a "ritual". I took the first one horribly and beat the shit out of her new boyfriend, who just happened to have beee my former best friend. Then he dumped her.

After I that I challenged her second one to a fight after he kept taunting me about how he was touching her and shit. Course he never accepted.

Second girlfriend was kind of the opposit. I think maybe I was desensitized, so when she broke up with me I was very apathetic. That got her very upset, with my having absolutely no intentions to make her so.

I do have a history of ritual purging of my desires whenever I develop an attraction to someone, though. One time it involved living in a cove alongside a waterfall for a month and a half. Another time it involved a 7 hour hunt that ended in a knife fight. It always revolves around endurance and suffering, overcomming very real obstacles. When I re-enter the world, things like "crushes" seem much smaller and insignificant.

EDIT: This actually reminds me of a conversation I was having last night with some friends. If you have an intense desire to be with someone, if you're "in love", would you no consider killing them to be a matter of great personal triumph? Because at the point, you've crossed a barrier, the barrier to ignore your deepest personal desires. You've conquered the part of you that covets.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Arrrg, my mom bogarted the phone line, sorry all. She doesn't do that much, I have to give her credit for that.
Wow, a mutual choice breakup, I wonder what that would be like?
Yes, ice cream etc is what happens right after; this is why I gained a lot of weight at the beginning of this year. I was talking about the symbol of "Hey, I think I'm moving on now for really and truly." which is where I feel I'm at now. It's a small shift, but it is a shift, and I'm glad for it because I was so tired of it. I just wondered if anyone else had small events that triggered that kind of realization. Maybe I'm the only one.
I've heard vaguely of Airborne but haven't ever used it and I'm not sure it would be ok for a pregnant lady. Ginger should be fine, and can certainly help with nausea. Garlic is a great immune booster and perfectly harmless to babies. Vitamin C should be taken in great amounts if possible, but she might want to look for a buffered tablet. Lots and lots of fresh pure juice, particularly pomegranite, helps me when I feel icky, and should also be safe for baby, so I recomend that. Might even help with the nausea. Vitamin C, in any of its forms, is probably her best bet. Any water-soluble vitamin, in fact, is fine. It is recommended that pregnant women stay away from herbs, though, except raspberry leaf. Anything considered too medicinal, even an herb, should be avoided if at all possible, and taken with great care if not possible, according to most studies. Check the labels for any warnings, check with a practitioner that might know herbs in-depth. (I have to say that or you could sue me. And it is a good idea if you can find one.)
I know nothing about olive leaf extract, never seen or taken it, but I would caution against it for pregant ladies since it sounds more medicinal and herbal.
Heya RugBug, I didn't have net when I firsst got into the X-files, so I didn't get on any boards. After I had net, I didn't even know there were boards, just chatrooms, so I'd get on yahoo chat. I was such a n00b.

KelKhil, as long as you don't give me reason, there will be no need for the airlock...although that mullet comment came close!

GED, welcome to another Mal! I'm doing well, and thank you for asking. Eight more days and we move the soon-to-be-ex to her new residence. It will still take a bit of adjusting, but y'all are here to help!

Magda! What are you still doing awake? It's like...um...2:00AM or something over there? Glad to see you nonetheless! :hugs: ANd yes, Shindig at the Tristan pad!

MSG, love your version of the happy dance...much prettier than mine!

FMF...last day for what? But, any reason to party is a good one!

Hey, RugBug! ...Mal, eh? I can see that, though you are much, much prettier (hey, to a guy she is...leave me alone! )

One day at a time.

Also, I think we all know who this "scary person" is. So, Tristan, if you wouldn't mind getting the hell out of here...

Seriously, though, I know the whole killing of a loved one thing is creepy and not-normal, but that doesn't mean it can't be discussed does it? Back in SFQC, before any legitiment part of technical training had begun, our barracks was gaining a very nice collection of dead body pictures. I think the most disturbing, for me, was this one where the was no body parts left. There were giant blood stains on the ground and all up the side of a Hummer. Just looked like a giant water balloon full of blood had popped. But it was for a purpose. You desensitize to it so that you don't have adverse reactions to it. Yeah, basic psychology, nothing too complex, but it got me thinking of barriers and crossing them. Just being around dead bodies of random people and seeing them is one thing, but what about having to kill someone you care about? What if a situation arose where you HAD to do that? We all like to think that we're able, but hesitation is what kills %70 of all combatants. If you haven't crossed that barrier once before, could you cross it on the spot?

Heh...that was actually funny.

I figured I'd be all Zoe...but I think the 'having problems with authority' and not liking to follow orders thing ruled that one out.

Well! Never thought of myself as a scary person...but yes, that was funny.

Chris, could I kill someone I cared about? That is a tough one. I have never been in a situation where killing would have been a valid option. I have been in a situation where guns were drawn, but it never escalated to violence. So, I do not have a background to draw on. I'd like to think that I would be able to kill to protect the ones I love, but not so sure if I could kill them myself. Perhaps in a euthanasia scenario where that would be mercy, yes; but not out-and-out killing for love alone.

RugBug, no problem! (There's no icon for tongue-in-cheek, but picture that here!)

Hi all! Just a stealth posting - I'm back in town, but off in a few hours to see the boy.

Mostly, I have to say to LA29 - I'm soooo glad you're getting good advice! I grew up with an older sister who never hit me, but there was always the threat. That's damaging in it's own really awful way, that you live with this weight on you, and can't ever speak freely. You DO NOT need to be in a situation like that! Good luck lots of hugs and these !!

Chris - I understand how you think that squishing anything like need for other people can feel like a triumph, but it's a hollow one at best. Ignoring your deepest personal desires is not actually a triumph, not a bit! It will destroy you as much as it'll destroy the people around you. Truly - not the way to go. I speak from experience here!

Personality test - I'm soooo River. Funny that the first time I took that I really wanted to be Mal, cause he's so cool, but I came up River and thought - duh!!

Gotta run. But Happy Friday everyone!

I think if someone I cared about was bitten by a flesh-eating zombie, or Reaver, or was assimilated by the Borg I could kill the person. I don't know how likely a scenario those are, however...

This question reminds me of Of Mice and Men (either the book, or the movie with Gary Sinise and John Malkovich). The end is so sad.... Or in Road to Perdition when Tom Hanks encounters Paul Newman in the rain.

Who was joking?

It's not like I got a background to draw on either, not for that particular scenario. It was just a thought that came to me as a result of my most recent object of affection. I decided that killing her would be a triumph in one sense.

I fully understand why it might not be, though. If you killed someone for no reason other than you loved them and wanted to see if you could, then you may have overcome love, but you're also surrendered to psychopathology. Maybe it's just more valuable to let yourself be controlled by affection rather than lunacy.

I'm reminded of something I heard about in either the Hitler Youth Program or an equivilent of it. They would give the children in the program puppies to take care of for about a year. At the end of that year, they'd have the children strangle the animals to death as a part of graduation.

The Spartans, too, were said to have practiced a rite of passage at around 13 years old, where a group of boys would turn on a kill the weakest one of them who'd they'd been training with since the age of 7.

So maybe, also, it's possible to perform this act without crossing into pure insanity?

Sorry, thought that "killing is not a triumph" was a given. I am not a proponent of killing at all, but I am also cynical enough to say that it is sometimes necessary. Maybe not something worth celebrating, no; that I never meant.

OK I have listened to this stuff and let it roll off long enough. My turn.....

Chris - You have some really interesting ideas in that clouded little head of yours. While I realize that this is just the reaction you were "trolling" for I am done sitting by and not commenting.

Judging by some of the comments you posted, especially about the pictures of coprses that your company has hanging up you think that killing some one would be fun. I doubt that you have though because if you in fact were forced to end someone's life you would not have made such childish comments. I am actually finding it hard to believe that you are in fact in any brance of service what-so-ever. No Unit would be allowed to have that kind of filth posted anywhere! Desensitation does not happen with a wall of fame!

Also if you truly are in the military I was just wondering what unit and stationed where. I am sure your CO would love to see some of the crap you are posting. I think that the violence you keep talking about along with that Sig you are so proud of would constitute a 45 and 45 (Know what I mean) if not a Dishonorable Discharge.

If you are Serving our great Country I would very much like to see you removed from service. You sound exactly like the soldiers that are now being brought up on charges for War Crimes. Your duty as a soldier is to protect those that cannot protect themselves. The mindset you portray is not constructive in that situation, heck it is not constructive in society at all.

As far as my background on that topic:

I wear my Unit's badge on both shoulders when I go out in Uniform. (Enough said)

*now back to our regularly scheduled good times.*

I agree with you entirely RugBug. I don't mean to offend you, Kekhil, but I am a pacifist, and have always believed that killing usually never can do good...

No offense taken asortafairytale. That hole post was a shot fired else where. MOST of us here have a very high regard for human life.

I'd have to agree that killing someone is never a triumph, but can be needed for the survival of the rest of us.

I'd say ( again using my degrees in criminal psychology) that Chris I have to tell you, you fit with absolute perfection the description of an anger excitation rapist or sadistic serial killer type 3.
1-Disregard for general society
2-mixed feelings of superiority and inadaquacy
3-contempt for specific group ( women)
4-violent ideation and fixation
5-idolization of violent groups
6-military/paramilitary leaning( unlikely that you have actually served or been selected to serve as this profile sets off enough bells to prevent acceptance)
7-Sense of entitlement combined with sense of injustice
8-victim mentality ( blaming everyone but you)
9-self rationalized violence ( I had to because they...)
10-and sadly the most damning, failure to understand and adjust to societal norms.

In other words, you may want to seek some serious therapy before all those fantasies in your head become a reality and you are looking at life in prison or lethal injection.

DANCINGNEKO

Hey all...

Kelkhil: (As a non-millitary-type) Does that mean you're an officer? (I figure it's obvious that you're a gentleman so....)

magda: Sorry I missed you. Still in the "gorramnit I've got DEADlines " mode that I've been in for a while now. Unfortunately it caught up with me -- went to visit a co-worker/friend and crashed in her room...woke up 4 HOURS later to go home, look about a bit when I did, then crash fairly early for the rest of the night.

*hugs LA*: if you want a way to document what's happening "just in case" there is a way that I've been taught as a teacher. I've been told that it's effective (since teachers have to report trouble to principals, counselors, and various other reporting groups for certain students) and I'm pretty sure that it would hold up under most circumstances. PM me if you want me to send it to you. It's called the "ABC's".

Oh...and I've re-instituted the "nazi/hitler" rule on myself (taken from the "ancient days" of newsgroups): Most arguments that end up as flame-wars have people using the worst insults that they can think of...and most of the time that means calling someone a "nazi" or "hitler" (I'm putting it in lowercase because I'm not wasting the time nor energy on it...). By that time it's usually degenerated FAR from the original point. So...the overall consensus was that those words meant the argument was over/not worth wasting bandwith over. (No, it does not mean the last poster 'won' -- just that it's a giant waste of time.)

Rugbug: *hugs* *offers to let Rugbug "hide" behind me as a shield* *shrugs* It's pretty much my job description...*grins* Teacher: surrogate parent, counselor, security within the classroom. Usually the first "line of defense" in the classroom.

PR: Heh heh... *coughs up a feather* Huh. How'd that one stay hidden for so long?

MsG: Hope your "mental health day" was shiny. I wish I could take one. Thank the stars it's Friday though...'cause I have a feeling that I'll be paying off my sleep debt this weekend (again).

Okay...gotta run to another meeting (yay. NOT). FYI, if any teacher (in the U.S.) is thinking about becoming an administrator, may I suggest taking the Title I coordinator position? You'll learn really fast if it's something you'd want to do. (Me, I'm thinking of going back to the classroom as soon as I can.)

I agree with the Ms. It seems things have gotten out of hand in your head, kiddo. Now, you're just coming off as creepy. The dangerous kind of creepy...

On the lighter note:
MsG: When did you get pregnant? Why wasn't I informed?

Rose: It's always a good thing to put the past in the past. The way you describe it, though, sort of makes me glad I don't live in Colorado. Better that I not clutter up your life when you're still sorting it out, savvy? I'd use the hug smilie, but I don't have one, so, just imagine it.

TRAVELER

When my one really true relationship broke up I don't remember going through any ritual. But it was hard. I actually felt physical pain. My elbows and knees ached. My back was sore as well. This pasted and I did move on. It has only been recently that I've thought of her. They are pleasant memories. Sometimes I think I would like to meet her again. But that is silly, because it has been years and we have gone our separate ways. So I let the feeling pass and gone on with my life. It is funny you bring up rituals though, because I have them for other parts of my life. I guess I never broke up enough to get a ritual started for relationships. If rituals help, than I can see doing them. Pagan Paul recited a charm in an earlier improbable to bring back his inner calm, that I thought was great. I wanted to write it down but lost track of it. There are days at work I could use a charm to regain my calm. I hoped it worked for him. And it was nice that he shared it with us. Maybe for the charm to work he had to share it. I'm just glad he did.

Hello, again, all.
MSG, thanks. You verified most of my thoughts on the individual in question. I think I should have kept on ignoring him...live and learn, I suppose.

DancingNeko, how ya been?

LA29...*phew*...didn't want to come across as too brash with that comment. Glad you have a sense of humor!

The pub serves an awesome Irish coffee. Good place to unwind, too.

KelKhil, no purple-belly. I had my day of intolerance, you had yours. All is good!
