In terms of "first love" are we referring to crush or liking or being "in" love? I was rather young when I started noticing girls - at an age where to little boys girls are "icky" and to girls all boys have cooties. I have a theory as to why I took interest at such a young age, but I won't be getting into that. I believe it was in 2nd grade when I noticed this girl with auburn hair, green eyes and freckles on her face. I thought she was cute but she never seemed to notice me. I haven't been able to forget this one because when I told my mom about her I mis-pronounced 'auburn' and said it as 'aw-born'. Hey, I was just a kid! My family gave me (and still does) a lot of slack over that one. "Remember the girl with 'aw-born' hair?"

Moving on to first crush, that would be in Jr. High and again a girl who never bothered to notice me. I later found out she was kinda snobbish so it's probably best I never let her know how I felt. In high school there was another girl that was short, brunette and very adorable. She was a friend (or so I thought) and I even tried to ask her to Homecoming one year (senior) - only to find out she already had a date.

In college there were a few girls I liked and everytime I let them know it - I didn't just come out and say it, I hesitated and showed little signs here and there, eventually I gained enough confidence to let them know I liked them - they all freaked. That's right - each of them said "I only see you as a friend" and each time that would be the last I hear of them. Obviously, I've never had much luck with the ladies. I'm told often that I just haven't met the right girl or there's someone out there for me and I'm bound to meet them. I hope they're right but it's hard to see otherwise based on my history. This is not a "poor me" post or an attempt to seek sympathy, just telling how it's been for me...so far anyway.

McQ- as a woman my only suggestions would be stop choosing unavailable women. I know a few guys with your track record. I hope this doesn't seem rude and if it doesn't apply to you then feel free to ignore it, but all these guys have one thing in common. They go for women with an air of unapproachable/unavailable. They just really pick girls they are pretty sure will turn them down or who are just really bitchy.
The other suggestion is go right up the first second you see a girl you think looks fun and nice and be really direct and confident. Even if it doesn't get you the woman you ask out, others will notice your confident attitude and that tends to attract. Just suggestions though so feel free to tell me to buzz off or ignore me completely!!!! HUGS

I appreciate the advice, but these girls usually aren't already spoken for - if they are, I don't know about it at the time. I don't go for girls whom I know are unavailable, because really, what's the point of that? A lot of girls just don't see me as anything beyond friends. Nothing wrong with being friends but I'd like to have something more than that, you know? I mean I hear how sweet, kind, nice, funny - all the good things - I am but I'm only a friend. Just doesn't make sense to me is all.

Apparently you just need to change how they see you. I can say that I've had a few guys change my mind about the "just friends" thing with a really decent move. One in particular springs to mind. Just goofing around flag football ended up flat on my back being kissed senseless...definitely a great kisser and I stopped seeing him as a friend right that second

However, by unavailable I didn't mean taken. I meant the vibe girls give off that says " I am too good for you. You don't have a chance" or the other vibe the " If you aren't some combination of Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt then don't bother" In your case though it sounds like you've fallen in the "buddy pit" and you need to shake them up and make them see you differently...I'm guessing you're their shoulder to cry on/always there for them guy...You could try being less there for them or just wait for the one who actually appreciates the kind of guy you are and since you're not exactly ancient or anything, you've plenty of time for that!!!

Sound advice, but it seems when I try something so bold they seem disgusted by it or as if I'm betraying the friendship by being flirty. Or I'm being too forward.

I try to meet girls with whom I share common interests and build on that. In the process I seem to fall into the "buddy pit". I don't know if it's my approach or maybe I'm just cursed.

McQ, I have a nephew in the Mythical Land of Iowa, who was in a very similar situations. He's a sweet friendly beer drinking 29 year old. My father would not stop either. Ended up getting a divorse and moving back to Nebraska. Most people have a hard time with alcohol abuse. Even people who want to quit find it hard to stop. I truely lucked out. It was not easy at first, but the longer I stayed sober the better life got for me. Just like the virtual hugs we get here, you can not leave an AA meeting without hugging everyone at the table you shared with. This sometimes ranges around twenty to thirty hugs. A lot love at an AA meeting. So it was nice to come here and see the hugs going around our wonderful verse. I think what made it easy to stop was how much fear they put into me when I went to treatment. Of course none of us in treatment thought we were that bad until two weeks later and we started getting withdrawals. Talk about a rollercoaster ride.
All I can say is "thank God for hugs."

Lol, yeah, it looks like we've got more than a couple D+ ladies in the Imponderables.

Now I'm not picking on you Traveler

but if you'll permit me, this is one of my tiny pet peeves. A lot of guys don't seem to know how the bra number (band size) & letter (cup size) system works. The number is based on your ribcage measurement, under the bust. Band sizes are only in even numbers, for no reason I can see. My underbust measurement is 27 inches, and since for some unfathomable reason the bra industry forces us to add 3" to 5" to that measurement, my band size is 30.

The letter is based on the number of inches difference between your bust measurement (measured at the widest point) and your underbust measurement. In practice this isn't nearly as clean and simple as this, but the basic rule is that each letter equals an additional inch of difference. So an A cup is one inch difference between bust and underbust, a B cup is a two inch difference, C is three inches, and so forth. It gets a bit messy after DD (five inch difference), as the letters get all messed up, but generally an increase in a letter means a one inch increase in the underbust-bust size difference. Generally the sizes go DDD/E, F, FF, G, GG, H, HH, etc (in the US, anyway), but that can vary greatly from brand to brand. In my favorite brand, I'm a 30G, but I have other sizes in my bra drawer too. (And to further prove that this is more of an art than a science, there's actually a 10 inch difference between bust and underbust for me, but the 30G is what fits best, so *shrug*.)

I saw a VH1 special once that claimed that Dolly Parton wears a 42DD. That's so untrue! Anyone who has ever seen Dolly Parton knows that she has a teeny tiny ribcage and waist, and really large boobs. I'd put her closer to a 30J or so (though with fake boobs, it starts to matter a lot less, since you don't actually need the support from a bra).

Thank you for your post. Seeing what addiction did to my father certainly opened my eyes to what was becoming of me. Yor mother and her sisters had to make a hard choice with your grandmother. It is not easy walk away from somebody you love because of addiction. I'm sure your mother was considering the effects it would have on you when making this choice.

Right now I'm wearing a 42C, but thanks to CK, I know that's the wrong size for me because my ribcage isn't that big. So my best estimate is that I'm actually a 36D, since I used to wear a 36C and be just fine. Maybe I'm a 38D, though; not positive. As CK pointed out, there's just some sizes that fit and some brands that fit and you just have to find them. I need to go bra shopping, but they are soooo expensive.
