Morning, all!
Monday, Monday....ick.

This goes back a bit...oddly enough, even with my theatre background and love of performing, I am not a big fan of live theatre productions. Having been involved 'behind the scenes', so to speak, for so long has kind of ruined the allure for me. I still like the ocassional show, but it is not something I enjoy.

:hugs: to you, Magda. And a nice, cool

Hmm. Late night becomes early morning to me when the sun rises.

That used to mean it was time to go to bed...now it means it's time to wake up. Ah, the joys of an 8-5 job. *sigh*

Marina, as far as trusting my parents to find a mate for me...I think I would be willing to give it a shot, considering my track record! Matter of fact, I might give them a call, see if they have anyone in mind...

CMH, morning! Fighting and killing...yep, there are days I would like to just drop everything and just wander out into the woods...try my luck there.
I do like controlled conflict...like I have discussed before. But, I don't think I could just randomly break into violence. Could I kill someone if necessary? I'd like to think so, but I won't know until faced with that option. I'm optimistic enough to hope it never happens.
As far as right and wrong, I do not think there are "definites"; I believe each society breeds there own set, and the citizens are expected to follow these rules. So, I agree with your post on that.

JTD...ok, could not have said it better myself! Someone will always be pissed off...I like the way you said that; makes perfect sense.

Magda, thank you for sharing your gathering. Wow. I would be willing to bet that was a very moving experience.

BSC, good to see you back in the saddle!
La Boheme? Really? Huh...that may be one that I want to see. Keep us informed, ok?

KingJayne, welcome to the thread...oh, and the site, too! Glad you joined us.
I watched that video. Yep, it does put things in perspective.

Marina...huh. Maybe I should look into those arranged marriage things. They don't sound too bad at all!
..."string of cuss words"....hehehe.

MSG. No. Absolutely not. Beyond the shadow of a doubt out of the question.
*ahem*
Sorry. I'm better now. That was in response to the loving someone you can't trust. It is difficult for people being able to gain my trust, and it is a delicate thing. I do understand the intentional vs. accidental, soo. I am capable of caring for people I don't really trust, but I could care for them. As far as a significant other I could not trust? Well, I divorced the last one.

CMH, once again...in the beginning, I did not like you. You know that. But, I can say that I really appreciate the fact that you hung around and have turned into a great poster. You have good insight, are quite articulate, and a joy to converse with. There are still times I cringe, but I do that with several other people, too. Know that I am happy and honored to know you.

PR! What does it feel like to be well-rested? I envy you!

RIMG, sorry things are not well in your part of the 'Verse. Anything we can do to help, let us know.

KelKhil...I shouldn't try to catch up, either...by the time I finish typing, another half dozen or so posts have gone by.
So, morning!

Mavourneen, time to release the cat! (see id you can get the one they used in Mousehunt, I think it was called)

Morning, DTH! Has it stopped raining over there yet?

Ok...caught up for now...time for more coffee!

No rain over here today, although it is pretty dark. And cold! At least my cold is better now.

We had some gale force winds last night, but no damage. All's well in the world :)

Great sig RIMG. If only I had a shiny Jayne-like hat...

So yeah Tristan, If only...

Weekend: Went well. Sold some decoys and took the shop circut (Fallon to Reno to Carson then home). FOund the Kimber I'd had previously at a much better price so guess what Joe Joe gets for Christmas (See Christmas thread). Called a guy runnin' a small security firm in Reno and considering making some extra money next year. Just gotta get my CCW. Woo Hoo!

Got to see GND this morning for a bit before going to work. I obviously have feelings for her, as my friend Mindy said I more than likely do. Time to have the "How goo a friends are we?" talk.

And great choice on thread title. Always reminded me of our dad. Little sad, but thats the way things go.

Not sure if this'll make a good one or not:

A friend and I got into a disagreement yesterday. The actual subject was about jealousy, and whether or not it's "right" or "OK" to feel it in certain situations. Like, if you have absolutely no right or relation to something, but you want it, and seeing other people that have it makes you jealous.

My point was that I recognize that it's not reasonable, and of course wouldn't act on it, but I can't help the feeling itself. His argument was that feeling it at all makes me fucked up in the head, and that I should actively look to dispel it.

But this can go to a great question, beyond just jealousy, can't it? Is it OK to want to do something very, very mean, hurtful, or what might otherwise be considered "Evil" as long as you don't act on it? Should you accept those feelings and just try to control them, or try to get rid of them completely in recognition that allowing them to linger could lead to acting on them?

MSG - I think that says that you prefer mature men. It's an impressive trait, and not something you should feel weird about. I knew a girl in High School who was attracted to Sean Connery, and was thoroughly impressed with her.

My current celebrity attractions are Milla Jovovich and Kate Beckinsale...and I am pretty sure that says I am attracted to tough, beautiful women...but I already knew that!

My library is an eclectic mix, but the books on display are mostly history, psychology, and sci-fi/fantasy novels...

Yay MSG! Good Topic.

Having managed bookstores for most of my adult life, I always look at a person's bookshelf and see a reflection of them. I don't look into medicine cabinets, I look at bookshelves.

Alphabetized? Things all askew? No organization whatsoever? Fiction and Non-Fiction mixed?

Bookshelves really resemble their owners. Like pets, only quieter. Generally.

*So, MsG. Tired, huh?

CMH, I have been in your shoes, I think. There have been things I wanted that other people had...I felt jealousy, but seldom acted on it. Mostly, it had to do with who they were dating at the time, things like that. It's human nature to want what you can't have at times, and everyone is guilty of it. I would say that acting on an irrational jealousy would be bad...but having the feeling itself? Nope. Been there!
I think everyone has wished someone else were dead at one point or another in their lives, and sometimes daydream about doing it. This is also healthy, as long as it is not acted out, obviously. I believe there are healthy ways to deal with these feelings, such as letting them run their course...it's not necessary to lock them away, or to try to purge them.

Then you can't come over to my house! All the book shelves are filled and double stacked! They used to be organised but have long since lost that quality. You also cannot enter a room in my house and not spot at least one stack of books on a counter or someplace else that they do not belong.

CMH- I think you mean envy- when you want something that is possessed by another. Hmm I'd say yes it's fine to feel something as long as you know better than to act on it. For example, today one of my students was sitting on my last nerve. He's kind of smug about his "tough guy" thing and I am well aware that I could easily take him down. I'd love to do it and wipe the smirk off his face, but that'd be totally wrong. So instead I sent him to another class, met with him after and talked about why I was bothered and what I needed and we made a contract...I still really want to smack that smirk off, but I won't. SO I guess this is a long way of saying, feelings are instinctual and impulsive we do not always control them. Acting on them is a choice and as long as we refrain from acting on bad/evil/unkind impulses, having them is just part of being human. Having a lot of them might mean you need to look at why you have them and what you can do to find another way to think:) HUGS

EDIT- I have so many books that there are 8 bookshelves, 3 corner shelves, 9 under bed boxes, one book bucket, and three or four other surfaces with books covering them...I have a problem, I accept that, and I buy more books:)

Tristan- My big ones are Alan Rickman, Tony Todd, Sean Bean...what can I say, I like older, aggressive, intelligent guys with more than a little wickedness in their souls...

Bookshelf: too many fiction books. I guess I wish the world were a cooler place. I also think I have too many books since I hardly ever reread the majority of them. Though it is nice to be able to just grab one before a flight or something. Anyway MsG's collection would put me to shame. I just have a couple shelves worth.

"Did he just go crazy and fall asleep?"

There just something about the Imponderables. It's like a heroin (not heroine, but sometimes that, too) addiction: I can't get enough. But by the time I get to responding to anything ten other tangents present themselves and in a never-ending loop, I read them to catch up and be current and on and on...as Tristan pointed out).

So, I'm holding off on all relevent and recent posts and opt to clarify my original imponderance for this thread. I agree with the posts that I read in response that the very idea of "soft porn" is like, to borrow a song lyric from Savage Garden, "deep sea diving with a raincoat on" (not sure if that's what they meant by it but it fits here).

I wasn't trying to get a porn thread started. Really. It was just the weird sensation of having something so iconic to us being represented in such a way. Is it good that we're "famous" enough to be lampooned by someone outside the loop (MST3K is kith and kin to us), or is it just plain bad to be connected to such mindless yuck?

Hugs to all and I'll try to respond to some particulars here tonight.

EDIT: And no, I'm not Pussy Footing Around, or whatever Kelkhil accused me of. "PUSF" on all of you!

Yeah Kelkhil mentioned what he claimed it meant...hmph!

As far as the line goes, NVG, we're all expecting you to be at the end now, not the beginning! All this good advice flying around here.

Heard Bob Seger's "We've Got Tonight" this weekend and thought of you.

I know it's late, I know you're weary
I know your plans don't include me
Still here we are, both of us lonely
Longing for shelter from all that we see
Why should we worry, no one will care girl
Look at the stars so far away
We've got tonight, who needs tomorrow
We've got tonight babe, why don't you stay

Deep in my soul, I've been so lonely
All of my hopes, fading away
I've longed for love, like everyone else does
I know I'll keep searching, even after today
So there it is girl, I've said it all now
And here we are babe, what do you say
We've got tonight, who needs tomorrow
We've got tonight babe, why don't you stay

I know it's late, I know you're weary
I know your plans don't include me
Still here we are, both of us lonely
Both of us lonely

We've got tonight, who needs tomorrow
Let's make it last, let's find a way
Turn out the light, come take my hand now
We've got tonight babe, why don't you stay
O-o-oh, why don't you stay

Hmmm...well I definitely have at least one shelf of books in every room of my house. It's not just me, but my whole family that are crazy readers. And also the fact that I never go to public libraries helps too. Me in a bookstore is never good...I'll want to buy practically the whole store, and it's very hard to narrow that down to two books. And then I always end up with more than I actually need at one time too. Right now I have at least five in my "to read" pile. Mostly my books are classics and fantasies, but they do vary a bit....not sure what that would say about me though.

Is this what male and female imponderables is about? The male and female imponderables seems like a really interesting thread. I've read the thread a few times. The content of this thread includes a lot of abstact thoughts and unusual topics like horror books. This thread also seems to be a place where intelligent people write articulately.
