Quote: Note to self: 36 or so hours away from the boards makes for a lot of catch-up reading to do. I had my end of year exam for French last night (1st year-level French at uni is equivalent to that learnt by high school students, cramming 5 years worth of teaching into one year). I know I could have done better as I made the mistake of going to see Children of Men in the cinema prior to the exam. It's a very impressive film and one I'd recommend to anyone to watch, but only if they didn't need to focus on anything for the next day or so, as it left me feeling battered, mainly due to it being a very possible depiction of how things in the world are going. So now I'm here and trying to catch up on everything. So let's see if I can add my 2c worth to some of the recent discussions. Books/Bookshelves As a fast reader and a uni student, my shelves are all overflowing with a mix of everything. Some older stuff like the 1st edition copies of The Exorcist and The Time Machine, a 1971 set of LOTR (complete with fold-out maps) and an early 1900's copy of The Three Musketeers. Complete sets of books include the Wheel of Time series (what there is of it so far) and everything ever written by Matthew Reilly. Graphic novels/comics include the full sets of Sin City, Preacher and Transmetropolitan. Then there's all the textbooks from uni (politics, history, religion, engineering, media studies). So what does my library say about me? Buggered if I know. NVG I know I haven't weighed in on you yet, but I feel it's time to start lobbing bricks at you. Cooking I do a lot of the cooking in this house, so I'm always up for new recipes. In amongst all the special features on the Sin City dvd is the 10 minute Cooking school, which has a nice looking breakfast taco recipe on it, which I'm planning on trying in the next week or two. That's enough for now. I'm sure there's been more stuff added for me to reply to while I've been writing this.

By all the outside things that don't ever add up to who she is on the inside. And so, if a woman is to be measured, let her be measured by the things she can control, by who she is and who she is trying to become. By her passions, her dreams, her goals. Because as every woman knows, measurements are only statistics, and statistics lie."

TRAVELER
Quote:Originally posted by Whimsicalnbrainpan: Ok I have a ponderable. What do you do when you are nervous to calm yourself down and how do you cheer yourself up when you are sad? I have these computer games of air combat during World War II. Diving and spining and trying to get the advantage over your opponent takes all your concentration. You have to watch you air speed, and make sure no one is coming up behind you. All the time keeping an eye on that moving target that you're trying to shot down. Then you pull the trigger and a stream of heavy ordnance pours out. You may fail. I fail three out of four times. The game is not easy. Even landing after a successful mission can be rough. After all that you realize that what made you nervous or sad has left you. Now I am not saying, "get a air combat game." You can do this with many things. Art. Repairing something you have been meaning to fix. Maybe shopping for something you have wanted to buy for a while. So mine just happens to be competing with other pilots for control of the skies. I enjoy shopping too. When I do shop, it is usually for DVD's of some movie I enjoyed seeing at the theater and want to see again. So I not only have the pleasure of shopping, but also watching the movie when I get home. You don't have to buy, you can rent. I just like to buy movies that I know I will watch several times. And chocolate. Eat some chocolate while watching the movie. It is always best to have more than one idea. If I have shot planes for a couple of days it is good to change to something else. So shopping is another of my favorite things to do. So have a hobby if you have the urge. I have had several different hobbies in my life. Some for a year and some I have been doing since man invented the wheel. So all my rambling is saying, "get busy." Idle hands are the devils play things. And an idle mind will follow very quickly. What ever you do, make it something you enjoy. Take care; Traveler Traveler

I read almost anything. Even joined a book club so I could discover new authors. Now that is a cheap hobby. We use the Milwaukee library system. We give them a list of books we would like to read once a year and the library pulls all there volumns for a particlular book once a month. We even get a longer amount of time to keep them than the usual patron. So once a month we read a different book. And as I said we read everything. Novels, mysteries, biographies, and anything else you can think of. Sometimes poems. Have not got them to read Shakespeare yet, but I think we will read one of his pieces soon. I'm hoping for "Much Ado About Nothing". So if you live in a large city they may have a similar program. Shame on them if they don't. I know what you mean about chocolate. You have to space it out. If you us it to often, it loses its effect. I am lucky about Xmas. My mother is to old to go shopping so we don't exchange gifts. Just cards and spend some time together. So it is a cheap holiday for me. Just gas money to drive down to Chicago to see mom. Will have to come up with a Xmas greeting card for the fansite. Now I have something to do. Well good night and as always take care; Traveler Traveler
