Okay Brown coats, just a quick question:

What Villan In FireFly do you think has been ignored and Pushed under the basket by most fans, but you love?
I mean Of course Every one likes Saffron, and Badger, I mean who doesnt? But who DONT you guys like?

Personally my favorite Villan was the Corrupt Alliance officer in the Message, yet no one seems to like his character at all! aw well.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I have to agree w/ you ArcBeatle. I liked the fed from "The Message". The actor who played the part is Richard Burgi, who some here may remember from the sci fi cop show "The Sentinel". I liked that show when it aired on UPN back in the day. The show ran for 3 seasons and some change.

I liked the way that Burgi played the fed (he seems born for tough cop roles) as tough, and ruthless. I would like to see him cross paths w/ Mal and crew again sometime in the future.

Give it up for the other ship captain in OOG- He saw an opportunity, took it, and proceeded to shoot Mal- Makes you wonder what he's done to other ships/people he's encountered -

I agree. Those guys seemed pretty cool (for evil buzzards). I'd like to see Mal meet up with them again. I'd also like to see Jayne introduce those vultures to Vera.

I think the least appreciated villain is the Fed from Serenity. Dobson was his name, I believe. He managed to pass himself off as a naive passenger, something Crow or Early never could have done, and was probably gets the closest to actually capturing River. Plus he has a great death scene, something needed for all good villains.

Niska ! Niska! how can nobody mention Niska!
I just loved him.

Also I feel he is correct. Mal had promised to steal from him. He asked Mal if he wanted to know what it was and Mal said no. Then Mal betrayed him!

So in my opinion Mal had it coming.

Also if you can't torture and kill your family who can you torture and kill?

That backstabbing whore in Heart of Gold. I hate her...

Crow. Especially when he was pushed into the engine.

For one episode, Jayne. In Ariel. But he just had to go for the money.

Me.

While I thought "Our Mrs. Reynolds" was funny, as a recurring character, I just didn't care for her. Not that I dislike or loathe her, I just didn't care. I wouldn't necessarily be happy if she never showed up again nor would I be angry if she did. I simply wouldn't notice. I have no interest in finding out her background or anything. She bores me.

Now Badger, on the other hand, I liked. Interesting fellow.

Not enough villains to comment on as to which one is under-rated.

Ah, see I'm the oppisite. Or opposite. Oposite maybe...Opisit? Oppicite?
I'm pretty apathetic towards Badger; he's some short low-ranking planetbound lowlife with an accent. Saffron, on the other hand, seems interesting; she has connections with criminals, and rich socialites. I'd be interested in her past.

IMHO, except for Niska, I think all the antagonists in all the stories were merely opportunists, rather than truly evil bad guys. Ex. Saffron worked with Mal and company to get the Lassiter. Ok, she turned on them, but that's what opportunistic mercenaries do. Hell, Jayne did, and he's a crew member. Niska was a true villain in that he enjoyed doing the whole evil thing. Just my opinion...

Don't squat with your spurs on.

I don't think the show ran long enough for me to be able to answer this question. Now if you ask what villian I'd like to see again, I'd have to say the other Captain in OoG. I'd like to see Mal get even.

Maybe Atherton Wing would cook up a scheme to revenge himself. Might even work Saffron into that plot.

I went back and looked at OiS just to confirm that. I kinda just got a vibe that he was a bad guy who just wouldn't shut up. However, after reviewing the video, I would have to agree with you that I had the vibe wrong. I always liked Richard Brooks from Law and Order, too.

Now these Blue Hand guys, I need more info about them. I think Mal, Zoe, and Jayne could've taken care of those freaks if they'd stayed around long enough to fill them full of lead I don't think of them as evil enough simply because they had about eight minutes of air time, and that was it. If we got to see more of them in some protracted pursuit of River, then I'd definitely go along with it. Even though you can argue that they kill if you get in their way, well, our protagonists kill pretty much without thinking about it, too.

I have a soft spot for Patience. She's a strong, old-fashioned, no-nonsense female villain I can really get behind. She has no particular reason to be evil, it's just business.

Perhaps a good match for Mishke? ;)

And speaking of Mishke, my research is showing that Shan Yu is based not on a real guy, and not on a figment of the writers' imagination, but on Disney's "Mulan" character. Which, if it is the case, makes me a little sad. I'm posting my research at my website (below) if anyone wants to comment/set me straight. Anyway, if true, it kind of takes the fire out of the guy.

Yep, Patience is your basic self-preservationist frontier matriarch...reminds me a bit of the matriarch in "The Thorn Birds" (which has some of the wild west frontier motif going on, only in Oz). I'm actually kinda basing my cosplay character on her.....watch your back...

I'm going with the woman who was having her teeth checked by Badger at the beginning of "Train Job".

What no one else - but her and me - knows is, she's the Typhoid Mary of the Firefly 'Verse. She's carrying a nasty strain of typhus and doesn't give a rip.

She's responsible for the death of thousands on Persephone and the infection of countless others who will jump on transports and go on to kill everyone on board through the air they breathe.

She's a nasty one is Ms. TeethGettingChecked

Personally, I never really cared about Dobson. It's Fox's fault.

Seriously.

See, by the time I saw "Serenity," I'd already seen the full series. I knew who Book and Simon were, and I knew that random-new-guy along with them was the Alliance Spy, and that he'd end up dead.

See, "Serenity" was all about suspense; we're not supposed to know who's doing the backstabbing, what's in Simon's cooler, or what condition the crew's gonna be in next time we see them. If they'd aired it first it would've been awesome and catapulted Dobson to the level of "serious threat."

Instead, he just comes off as another token baddie. Certainly not Joss' fault, or any of the cast/crew. It was Fox that basically gave away the ending.

Its not her past I'd be interested in.... Actually, I could see Saffron as being set up to be a possible new crew member - someone less trustworthy than Jayne but as effective as Inara or Jayne in a pinch.

I'd lump Saffron in with Jubal Early in the "It's why you took the job" crowd. Saffron doesn't do what she does for the money -- if it were about money, she could have stayed with Durran Haymer and been queen of her own floating island. Also, there's the exchange between her and Mal at the end of OMR (paraphrased): "There's got to be easier ways to steal." "You're assuming that the stealing is the point."

So what we're left with is that Saffron really gets off on winning people's trust, then betraying them and leaving them to die. She's something a lot nastier than just an opportunist.

I don't think anybody mentioned the victim in Bushwacked! His whole gimmick is he looks bigger when you can't see him. Although I think that was one of the... least good episodes in the series, so maybe he was rightly unappreciated.
