When I say it's too cold to sleep, I mean it. Even under three layers of nice, thick blankets. It's as though my discomfort and my fatigue are at war, and my brain is the spoils.

RIMG, I can empathize. The end of a relationship can be awful emotionally and physically. I hope you're not in as battered as this guy.

We are here if you need someone to talk to. Hugs.

James, do we need to send you warm jammies and blankets. Although, there is nothing wrong with watching Firefly is you can't sleep.

Magda, I will be sending you an e-mail tomorrow about what I'm planning.

oooooooh!! Yay! Thank you VerseExplorer I can't wait to find out about it all!

Hey James usually the human body is amazing at giving itself exactly what it needs - but in the case of real exhaustion I think it goes haywire - I did have clinically diagnosed exhaustion once and spent most of the next 14 hours... *ahem* 'hugging the porcelein' so to speak... sorry, but it seems that when physically exhausted your body says "purge!" when it should say... well... nothing actually, just let you sleep...

Well, I ended up sleeping again. Still colder than the devil's tit, but I'm about as awake as I'm going to get. Insomnia's no fun.

Is it just me, or are the Imponderablers having a really rough go of it of late?

mornin' Imponderables.

Magda - thank you so much dear, and yes, it did make me smile. The 270 days I have to wait to give you those hugs seem like a lifetime, but the waiting will so be worth it.

On the issue of cuddling, for warmth or otherwise, I am all for it.

Okay so here we go.....

I've changed a lot in the five years.
One I graduated from highschool. Then I found out about heart break and ache. Being half arsedly married to someone you love deeply but can't stand sucks. How far down the rabbit hole I can go and how to get out again. Now I'm learning about how to let someone or anyone for that matter in to get to know the real me......

I'm so happy to know the imponderables are still going strong! I've missed you guys but my computer goes wonky constantly so it's a bit difficult to post. Hope this one works though!....

Hello LittleAlbatross29:

Was up late, so got up late. Taking me a while to get my focus. I suspect your little ones are wide awake and starting fresh adventures. I do not belong to a formal religion, but people have shown me what faith can accomplish. I am here today because of it. I do not know what the great plan is or how it work, just know that the God I believe in wants the best for me and asks me to do my best in return.

SIRI

I'm new and haven't posted on this thread before. Sounded interesting. Good topic - changing personalities and snow. I get the connection.

Over the past five years, I have become more wary and less accepting of the idea of faith - in religion. I used to think religion could be useful as far as helping the poor and making social change. Not being an organized religion person myself (for many years), it seemed that it could be helpful and mostly not harmful. But it seems people have formed "alliances" and dug into entrenched camps more than ever. It appears that fear and insecurity have created an atmosphere where religion is used to justify a point of view - again. Faith can't really be argued since it can't be proven. Thus, unless people agree to disagree it's impossible to move forward.

So, I guess I've become more cynical - sad to say. I try to live from my moral compass and allow others to do the same. I take action when it seems useful and necessary. Other times I try to look for alternatives. I believe there is a power that is unknowable and good (there's my faith!) not sure how involved in day-to-day events that power might be.

Welcome Siri , we're happy to have you join us.It is pretty quiet now, being the weekend but we usually pick up during the week.

I'm one of those that believe that faith is separate from religion ( for me at least ) .I have no love for any organized religions & think that they usually cause more problems than they solve. But I'm for whatever gives people comfort too.AS long as they don't try to convert me.

ME, I'm a solitary Pagan & do well all by my lonesome.Other people complicate things and then need organization.

SIRI

Thanks for the welcome, LittleAlbatross. I have found this site very comforting - not sure why or how. I lean toward the pagan-persuasian myself, was involved with Reclaiming folks for a number of years but am more or less solitary - except for occasional seasonal gathering with a few friends. Do love winter solstice, especially outside in the cold at night - there's something about a crisp, clear wintery sky - kind of makes you think of our crew out there in the black - doesn't it?

I do love getting responses from fellow Browncoats, too, and look forward to checking in to see if "I've got mail."

Hello Siri:

Sounds like you have a good compass. I do not feel faith requires more than what stated you believe. What more can be asked of us than to follow what in our hearts.

I stay away from formal religions for the same reasons as you. It seems their message is more us against them.

Oh, I completely understand the concept of faith, though I cannot get into it. I tried it for a while, then stopped, and nothing changed, which is why I have adopted the current theory. As for the tarot reading, do we have to be in the same place, or can you do it long distance, and if you can do it, what do you need to know from me? In the scene with Book that that quotation comes from, I am most like River, in wanting to "fix" the bible (or any religion for that matter). right back :)

This site is definitely a second home for me. I also love a cold, clear winter night, as I am Yeti and love the cold.

Siri - hi, and welcome to the Imponderables. Also nice to see someone who is similar in beliefs. I go along with a sort of moral compass, though I have very few morals. I suppose I can sum it up with Murphy MacManus' line from the courtroom at the end of Boondock Saints:
"Do not kill. Do not rape. Do not steal. These are principles which every man of every faith can embrace."

EDIT: Just noticed/thought of this:

As far as the reading goes, I can do it long distance no problem. But we'd be taking up way too much space here ,so if you'd like you can email me at witchy.woman13@verizon.net .You can think of an exact qustion or you can just have a general reading whichever you'd prefer.

And by the way -on a totally different subject -are you tall ? Magda called you a bear & I'm wondering if it's just a nickname or a height reference.

It does seem that way. IMO, I think that most ppl have yucky things going on in their lives. It's just the Imponderable threads are a save place to talk about them. My thoughts are with any Browncoat that might be in pain right now. Hope you feel better soon, James.

Welcome, Siri. Glad that you feel comfortable here. We hope you post often. You just might be getting some mail soon.

LA, are you reading cards for anyone, or do you have limited time? I've got a couple of questions about my trip to Australia.

Traveler, how is the snow today? Are the roads starting to open up?

RIMG, it's fine if you don't have faith. It's understandable that your engineer brain likes concrete things. Those of us that do have it just want to make life a little easier for you right now. Is it OK if we send a few positive vibrations your way?

LA, great! I'm in no hurry. My trip is still in the planning stage. I'm thinking the end of March or sometime in June. I'm not sure if I want to fly down on my own or if I should fly down and take a cruise. So many questions. I thought a reading might help me make some of those major decisions.

I wish I could take everyone along. I'm sure Magda would be overwhelmed (and delighted) to have all of us show up in Melbourne. I've always wanted to visit Australia, but it has been my connection with her that has made me decide to do it now.

"Did he just go crazy and fall asleep?"

Slow, measured, calming.
Okay. Let's try this again.
Some 24+ hours ago, I wrote a lengthy response (I know what you're thinking: JQ, wordy? Never!) encompassing all or nearly all the IMPonderers and IMPonderables up to that point. It's gone. I vanished and I have no one to blame but myself. Instead of the two window method I usually employ I hit the back button. That was fine of course until, distracted by Donatello trying to assist me clicking the mouse, I navigated away to another thread. Backward, forward; it didn't matter the text was gone.

The main reason I was trying to catch up was of course explained in the rant that opened my post. Some of you may remember that I played hooky from work so that I could meander around FFF.net at my leasure. Which was great for a while. Until (oh yes there's that whole weather thing going on) high winds, not storm, not snow, knocked out the power for no less than 8 hours. Eight Freakin' Hours! I was beside myself. So when the power at last came on, I had a lot of pent up posting to do as well as catching up on what I had missed. I finally was close to finishing my post (I was basically signing off, but had to check one last quote of someone) and...see paragraph above.

For now I just want to say Welcome Siri! Glad to have stop by. We hope you stay a while (Imponderables is absolutely addictive.) We tend toward the ridiculous and the sublime simultaneously and frequently have more than one ponderation going at a time. It's a lively place that makes you think and let's you vent. A Browncoat's Candy Land.

Alright. Enough for now. Hugs and love to all my friends. I'll be back at some point with real, actual thoughts to share. Tonight's not the night...Be at peace.

That's happened to me before as well, Jonny. It must be God's joke on the long-winded. I'm sure it was insightful, but in reality, there's probably very few people who would have read all the way through it. That's how I feel when I make long comments, anyways.

I've also been looking to drop this in to one of the conversations here, but I can't seem to find an appropriate opening, so I'll just say it now. I've had all of my waivers and documentation approved, I go in Monday to be sworn back in to the U.S. Army and receive a briefing. I can't express how happy I was to hear this, suffice to say, the process has taken a little over half a year to date.

It's amazing what one phone call can do to a person. I haven't felt this content with my life in over a year, and it's made me reflect on how and what I've been doing. I really ought to thank everyone here for putting up with me, while none of us really need each other socially, I chose to stay here and all of you chose to put up with me in your own ways. I found FireFly during a time when my country, friends and family didn't want or have time for me. To that end, certain people here, and anyone associated with the Verse' became surrogates. Now my country wants me back, and I can't help but feel a little guilty leaving behind everything that supported me mentally and socially when I didn't have anything else. But we all have to walk our own paths eventually, something I'm sure the majority of you understand better than I do.

For what it's worth, I'll still be around for a little while. Probably a month at least, I'll get the exact details about that on Monday. Even so, I just want to say that it's been a pleasure knowing you all.

I read 'em Chris, every word. Maybe the babbling kindred spirit forces me to. But I always enjoy reading your stuff whether I'm in agreement or not. I don't know about insightful but...eh. It's over, it's done. There will be others.

For what it's worth, I'll still be around for a little while. Probably a month at least, I'll get the exact details about that on Monday. Even so, I just want to say that it's been a pleasure knowing you all.

Congratulations, Chris. I know this is what you've been waiting for and as soon as he gets back from his weekend, I'm sure Tristan will echo that.

I of course have mixed feelings about this, and it has nothing to do with politics. Regardless of how I or anyone else feels about the Irag war at this point, I know why you are doing what you do. And I am grateful, son, that there are folks like you out there watching over us, guarding and defending us, and giving so much of yourself for us. I will miss you when you deploy, but even over there it's possible to get on line (there are a couple of Browncoats over there now that check in every once in a while. I hope you can. We'd love to hear from you, how you're doing. You'll always have a home here in the 'Verse.

Come back when you're done. 'Cause I need a sparring partner here. I'll pray for you while you're there. And I want dibs on any schrapnel you may pick up--and here's hoping you don't; I'll honor it.

Magda, so nice to see you got the computer away from your Dad for a few minutes. Hope to hear more from you soon. Maybe we can help you think of some distractions to get him away from the computer more often.

Chris, thanks for sharing your joy with us. We will be thinking of you. Keep us posted.

FMF, there are far too many wierdos around. Identifying them early is a good thing.

WHITEFALL

Hi folks.... long time no post, I know... been kinda busy... was doing two shows for awhile, down to one now, and I had all that college app business, which is mostly over with. (I stupidly am only applying to a few state schools. Private schools i think would always make me feel bad for spending tons of money.) I don't know if i'll post more, I just wanted to say hi, and I'm real happy that ya'll are still plugging away.

I'm actually rather sick at the moment (had my first fever dream last night, quite the exciting thing), but of course, no rest for the wicked AP student. But as always, you guys are here being all happy and joyous and stuff....

Last five years? Wow... uh... so when I was... twelve? I could not be more different. I think it was about two years ago that I feel I cast off a lot of this tiny child sorta stuff, started thinking of myself as an adult, as an artist, as someone who doesnt give a damn what other people think (except, ya know... when its good). But then I guess us teens change a lot in them five years. Blah now i'm a cliche! darns!

Love to all.

-Whitefall

Whitefall, sorry to hear that you're sick. Those fever dreams can be downright bizarre. Hope you feel better soon. It sounds like real life is keeping you busy. Check back and post when you can.

Bad weird is every smelly crazy person in this city that seems to love talking to me.
Or the guy who cat-called me in fron of Dylan yesterday as we were walking to school.
Maybe they do like us female Browncoats.

RIMG your weirdness isn't weird to me,is that weird ?

Well the dark and the weird are only related in the sense that "normal" people would find the darkness weird. I might tell you, if you really want to know. Some of it has come out as Imponderables questions.
