ponderable(and this might have been done before, but I have yet to read through all of the archives) - What is your favorite or most memorable Christmas/Yule/Saturnaila/Chanukah/Kwanza/whatever gift, and why?

Looks like I missed FutureMrsFillion while I was away.

And CrissMoorhead: Try to keep in touch. Browncoats are all over the world. So you will never be far from one. Glad you found what you were looking for.

Good festive ponderable...and I'm finding it hard to come up with an answer. I've been pretty lucky and have recieved a good many shiny gifts over the years. The original playstation was a good one, and my xbox 360 last year cause consoles aint cheap and I'm only one of the people the parents are buying gifts for so i appreciate it. There was the tomy2xl I got when i was about 4. It was pretty much a robot shaped cassette player with a quiz tape, but i loved that thing.

The best gift was probably my two cats. Being the animal lover I am, and never being allowed a pet previously, the time I opened the box under the tree and saw the two tiny creatures looking up at me was probably the best christmas moment I've had.

All my Christmas memories sort of melt together.
The one thing that stands out is my father's birthday. You see he was born on December 18th. So on his birthday we would buy our Christmas tree. That always made his birthday special.

I suppose I ought to answer the ponder myself.

My favorite gift was a ten speed bike when I was a teen. It was my favorite as it meant more freedom to go places.

My most memorable was a hockey book (NHL 75th Anniversary Commemorative book) I received from my brother. It was memorable because we had gotten each other the exact same book that year.

I bought Firefly and Serenity for myself last Christmas...that has to be one of the best gifts I've received.

I think as I grow older, my gifts are more something that I get, then have shipped to my parents and my mom wraps them up. So really, it isn't the gifts that are particularly memorable, although I enjoy them, but the focus has shifted to the time spent with my family. I mean, no one can take away the excitement of rushing downstairs in the morning and shaking all your presents (hey, I think I still did that last year) but it's not as big a part anymore. I think I remember more gifts I give now but I guess that is in the spirit of the holiday as River would say.

I'm getting a Zune this Christmas by the way, if anyone has one already or will be getting one.

oohh... My most favourite xmas gift ever was a giant stuffed (soft toy kinda thing) gorilla when i was about 6. It was slighty bigger than me at the time and looked kinda fierce to everyone else, i just thought it was the cutest thing ever.
So, on xmas eve i watched this Alf (yeah! who remembers Alf!?) xmas special where Alf is mistaken for a toy and taken to a kid's hospital in a charity run. the little girl who gets him as her present was my age and in the end of the movie she dies of cancer. her name was tiffany. So, on xmas day, i open up this huge gorilla and i called her Tiffany.
Tiffany went everwhere with me for years and i've still got her.

I got a big doll that came with clothes in a chest when I was around 7 years old. The neat part was that the extra outfits were made by my mother. She even made little slippers. I valued it at the time because I knew how much time and effort she had put into the gift. I love it even more now because it is one of the few things that I still have from my childhood. I just might have to get her out of my closet to look at her.

mornin' Imponderables.

I suppose I should answer my own question. The present I remember most would be my first bike. My brothers both got one on the same Christmas, though they both had training wheels while I didn't. The rode around the yard on the sidewalk and walkway as I worked out how to ride mine by repeatedly trying and falling in the grass of the front yard. Fun times. :)

"No power in the 'verse can stop me!"

My WOW moment came when I peeped into the front room and saw a gold bike sitting beside my 'pillow case' that Santa had filled!

My seriously best ever Christmas gift was 10 years ago - I had had 6 weeks of tests and minor surgical proceedures and hospitalisation and found out on Christmas Eve that I didn't have to have brain surgery! Wow - the relief was increadible and I honestly say to this day that it was the best gift ever!!!

Hello everyone! Thank you guys for keeping in touch even when I can't be about much!

Huge Hugs to you RIMG!! Can't wait for those Jimi-bear hugs in 269 more days!!

Hi ShinyKitten Thanks for letting me know you are alive and well - I was missing you Honey!

Hi FMF Sounds good to be free... and familiar to have that neon sign on your forehead... believe me Honey, you deserve a wonderful man and will find one, though it might take time!! Thanks for the email too!

Hi Traveler has it settled down snow-wise up there? Keep warm Honey!

Anyone else I missed - I humbly appologise... Oh and Tristan... I had a small glass of Baileys tonight... for you qing ren!

Morning all! It's early afternoon here and I'm on my lunch break

Best Christmas... hmmm... the years I got my first bike and my first "proper" guitar stand out for me. Overall most Christmases were happy times no matter what I got or didn't get.

Mt favourite recent gift was from my brother Geekmafia. He got me the 'Once More with Feeling' script book. The gift itself was great, but it was my Mum's reaction that made it for me. When Geekmafia was buying it she tried to talk him out of it, saying "I know she's a Buffy fan, but she's seen the episode! Why would she be interested in the script for it?" and Geekmafia kept saying "Trust me! She'll go nuts!" I went nuts. Mum shook her head and told Geekmafia he was right and both of us were officially impossible for her to understand!

It's cold here too, and we had a massive storm over the weekend. Very strong winds and buckets of rain. We lost a couple of slates from the roof of the training centre, and so did a couple of neighbouring houses. There doesn't seem to be too much damage thankfully, although I hear the West coast was hit much harder than us.

There have been so many storms this Winter it's unreal. This is the third big storm since the start of November!

EDIT: LA, that *does* look really good, even if I do say so myself! When I saw the lyrics the signature came to mind, and I was making a new signature for myself anyway. I've got quite a lot I'm working on, including some Simon avatars a board member requested *ages* ago that I haven't finished yet! I'm hoping to get those done this evening.

That one was easy as I had all the images already. Those ones matched the song best I thought. It's a great song!

EDIT: Mav - one reason I like the cold so much, aside from being extremely hot-natured, is for the propensity to snuggle with someone.

The best Christmas present that I can remember was a bunch of Lego sets I got when I was but a lad. They were the old sets, the Space sets, back before Lego went sissy and lost all of its pinache and soul. I miss those old sets. They were all a lot of fun to mess around with.

Morning, all!
I missed not only one, but TWO threads this weekend! I know I will never get caught up, so I won't try.

One thing, though, and I hope he reads this...
CMH, Congratulations! I am very happy to hear the good news! We will miss seeing you around here, but also know that we are still here when you feel like dropping in.

I'm pretty sure I missed you, Magda, but just in case.

I missed being on the boards this weekend, but I am happy to be back...well, sort of. There's this nice pile of paperwork left over from Friday that's mocking me right now. Coffee. More coffee and then I will start working again.

Once again, hello, hugs and kisses to all!

DTH - is it similar to making fanvids using music files and video rips from the series, or not at all? I had a spectacular idea (or 10) for such a video, but I didn't know how to do it, so I asked someone else to do it for me (if I have already asked you that question, just ignore me)

JtD - I am with you on the Legos. I remember getting big boxes with lots of random parts and boulding whatever you could imagine from them. *sigh*

EDIT: Good morning Tristan, glad that you had a good weekend, though it sucks to come back to that kind of paperwork. Maybe you need some super-coffee to get it all done :)

A pound of almonds? Woah. Though I would have to substitute another kind of nut (I really cannot stand almonds) I don't know if I could eat a pound of them, even given such shiny books and a whole day to do it.

My mom had some smoked almonds at Thanksgiving that were, well, interesting (again, were they some other nut I would have liked them much more). They were made by Emerald Nuts, I think, in case you want to check them out (if you haven't already).
