LA - not sure if you were around last night or not, but I was watching The Unit and Nip/Tuck then racking my beer to secondary, so I wasn't really in front of the computer.

Time to get back to sleep (I wish).

HUGS and snuggles Kelkhil what's wrong hon?

RIMG- well I can tell you the amazingly funny story of the boy with the itchy cast. Student named Brady has a cast (3 this year) on his arm.No he's not abused. He's just an idiot when it comes to personal safety. Well he decided his cast was itchy and since he just happened to be in shop class,he decided the best choice would be to use the circular table saw to remove it so he could itch his arm. Luckily the shop teacher happened to glance up and notice Brady moving his arm toward the moving saw blade and hit the kill switch before Brady severed an artery and all. I called Brady's dad and all I did was say good morning. Dad sighs and says now what has he done. I told dad and he calmly says " is his arm still on" when I told him yes he chuckled and said, "well maybe we should go with that plan of his mom's and tape him to his brother to keep him out of trouble"

This is the same child who, in attempting to jump onto another student, launched into the air, slammed into my cabinet and left a permanent impression of the side of his face in the mesh scree. Also, once got freon poisoning by sealing himself in the fridge in the foods room. Gotta love Brady's imagination if not his brains

MSG - that is indeed a funny story, and Brady sounds like quite a character (when I first read it, I though the bit in parenthesis meant that he turned 3 years old this year, so I had to go back and re-read it). Taping him to his brother, however, might just get the brother in trouble, unless he is much bigger (and you have some damn strong tape).

Yeah I think the only way Brady can stay out of trouble is to be rendered unconscious.

Oh today is so one of those days where I really wish I had stuck with criminal psychology. Most days teaching is great, but today more like torture

LOL DTH never quite happened that way as my specialty is serial rapists, but hey it happens all the time with my students:)

Yeah this has just been one of those days when I miss the hardened criminals. At least they didn't get on my nerves, creeped me out substantially, but didn't get on my nerves. Things are lookng up since I got my 6th period prep back ( someone else offered to cover the class)Plus one of my kids went and got me a bag of cheetos so that's always nice. Course it'll mean an extra 20 minutes at the gym, but hey it all works out eventually

Felt the need to post the You know you're a teacher when...
1. You believe the staff room should be equipped with a Valium salt lick.

2. You find humor in other people's stupidity.

3. You want to slap the next person who says, "Must be nice to work from 8:00 to 3:20 and have summers free."

4. You believe chocolate is a food group.

5. You can tell if it's a full moon without ever looking outside.

6. You believe "shallow gene pool" should have its own box in the report card.

7. You believe that unspeakable evils will befall you if anyone says, "Boy, the kids sure are mellow today."

8. When out in public, you feel the urge to snap your fingers at children you do not know and correct their behavior.

9. You have no life between August and June.

10. When you mention "vegetables" you're not talking about a food group.

11. You think people should be required to get a government permit before being allowed to reproduce.

12. You wonder how some parents ever figured out how to reproduce.

13. You believe in aerial spraying of Prozac.

14. You believe no one should be permitted to reproduce without having taught in an elementary setting for the last 10 years.

15. You've ever had your profession slammed by someone who would "never dream" of doing your job.

16. You think caffeine should be available in intravenous form.

17. You know you are in for a major project when a parent says, "I have a great idea I'd like to discuss. I think it would be such fun."

18. You want to choke a person when he or she says, "Oh, you must have such fun every day. This must be like playtime for you."

19. Meeting a child's parent(s) instantly answers the question, "Why is this kid like this?"

20. Your boss tells you of a great new policy she's adopted called "Zero Tolerance."

EDIT- Penguin HUGS so good to have you here! We've missed you. So what's going on? Sorry you're having an off day HUGS

MSG: Your kids are so bad you miss dealing with serial rapists??? Good Gods, what are they doing to you!!!

Funny story about calling students "kids" or "my kids". Heard of someone who teaches and talks about "my children" all the time. Once, at a supermarket, she bumped into the parent of two girls she used to teach. He recognised her, she didn't recognise her.

After an awkward moment he smiled and said "You don't remember me, do you?"
"No" she confessed, "I'm afraid I don't."
"Do you remember Hannah and Sarah?"
"Oh, now I remember you!" She exclaimed "You're the father of two of my children!"

Apparently the look on the check out girl's face was priceless.

*hugs Penhuin* Poor Penguin. Are you okay? Long, hard days are nobody's friend!

*Digs around and pulls out the "in case of emergency" individual pack of dark, melt-in-your-mouth-and-make-your-toes-curl-in-chocolately-bliss chocolate truffles (one is mixed with a liquor, the other is pure melty-chocolate goodness) and hands it over to MsG*

Sorry to hear about the bad day. *ponders a bit and hands MsG another couple of "in case of emergency" individual packs of truffles*

Bartender (Kelkhil, Nico, BarBot) two rounds of whatever MsG wants, and a giant vat of sasparilla for Penguin...and put it on my tab.

Hurrah for the getting of your prep time back though. I've always been a proponent of the 'free' period for various reasons/uses.

Side note: With "No Child Left Behind" (No School Left Unpunished, No Teacher Left Without An Ulcer), I've been entertaining the idea of requiring all elected officials to a full school year's worth of being in the classroom so they have an idea of what they ask/demand/require of teachers.

Hugs to All. Sorry to hear it was such a bad day. There was a full moon on Monday, December 4th. Is this the left over effects?

MsG, I must say that "You know you're a teacher when..." was true for me on all 20. I've always felt that everyone thinks they know what teaching is like because they have gone to school. Little do they know what it's really like.

DancingNeko, I heard about a great idea for a TV show when the series Survival first started. Twenty politicians would be chosen for this Survival series, and they would live on an island with 700 students of various ages. They would not be allowed to leave the island until all of the students were able to pass standardized tests with over 90% mastery.

Luckily I love my job. I don't think you can be a good teacher if you don't because it can be brutal. I hope tomorrow is better for everyone.

*jumps into a hammock next to PR*
Isn't life GREAT? I love the wee hours of the evening.
