HK, several things...
As for the 76th, if you just want to post in the Roll Call thread, we can add you to the webpage. And part of the reason for the threads is so everyone can have input...we would love to hear everyone's!

And thank you for the kanji thing. Seriously. I am the same way when it comes to language, except my obsession is aimed at the Celtic tongues. I even learned some odd twists of Welsh along with some Irish Gaeilge. So, not an odd interest.
Also glad to hear you had a flying squirrel, too. And yes, I had been startled out of a sound sleep a few times by that escape artist.

JTD, the beginning of the cat story made me laugh, but the part of Bud's demise sobered me up. I am sorry about that.

The Imponderable thread had some great giggles today. You all are hi-larious!

I do like The Ref, Usual Suspects, and Bell, Book, and Candle. I'm a fan of Kevin Spacey and Denis Leary, and I wanted to be Kim Novak when I was young. Of course I was not tall, thin, and blonde, but I did have dreams that I would be some day.

I also liked that she left Hollywood at the height of her career in 1966, and she moved up to Big Sur.

Zeek, I'm ready to see Black Christmas. I'd love to see Serenity decorated with Christmas trimmings. You know Kaylee would put things up for the Holidays.

JTD, small animals do have a way of annoying dogs especially new mothers. I usually have a child that begs to take a class pet home over the summer. Dogs have usually been the ones to end their lives.

I tried to post yesterday that my fav Christmas movie is actually a special - one of those Rankin/Bass stop motion photography shows from the 70's called "Santa Claus is coming to Town" - it's the one with the BurgerMeister.

And, knitting isn't evil. Its misunderstood. I learned to knit a long time ago as something to do with my hands during dialysis. Can't say I'm very good, but you develop a rhythm and its very Zen.

Ah, I loved all those type of movies! I can never remember the names of them, though.

Mav, I think the same way of making mail that you do in knitting. Very relaxing and it frees up the mind to do other things while your hands are busy.

Oh, one thing I like about the Xmas season is the flavored coffee beans. Today, we are drinking a chocolate candy-cane coffee! Time to go get some more before it all goes away!

NV you have my opinion via email so I won't restate. This is going to be one very very busy day of craziness. Yet another no sub available moment has put all hands on deck and I'm having to cover another teacher's classes again today. So I may or may not be around

HUGS CMH yes paperwork is an invention of the devil and it bites. You should see how much ( or rather , based on how sick it made you, shouldn't) paper work We do for special ed kids.

Speaking of which, back to writing the 8 page legal document ( which must be written for every special ed kid once a year) for the meeting. Hopefull I'll be back soon.

Tristan- that happens to be my fav too. Are you topping it with whipped cream and crushed bits of candy cane?

CMH- at least they didn't make you take the MMPI. So it could have been worse . ( should explain that MMPI is Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory- it's a comprehensive test to detect all personality attributes, but it take about 6 hours)

Of course this makes me think of the Emo Phillips comedy bit about him being screened by a psychologist and he's given a chocolate bunny and the psychologist tells him if he'd bitten off the feet first then he had an inferiority complex, if he'd bitten the head first he'd have an superiority complex and Emo says " what does it mean when you bite off the eyes and scream Stop Staring at ME." and the psychologist replies " it means you have tendancies toward self destruction." Emo asks, " what do you reccomend?" The therapist says, " Go for it."

Thanks LA I could use a good rest of the day. As it stands, a sub job didn't fill so I lost my prep to cover a teachers class, we had a fire drill during my severe behavior group and they acted like maniacs/monsters and were a pain to get out of the building, plus other teachers giving me the beady eyed can't you control them look was fun,then all this ends and I start to sit down for my 25 min, YES 25 min lunch, when a kid comes in and needs me to read his test to him. So I got a 7 min lunch...OK rant over , sorry I am just getting a bit irritated that our district pays so poorly that we have no subs and this happens constantly.

Anyway, so what are we pondering today? I had a completely silly one. What is your favorite indulgence? ( can be food, time to your self, foot massage, etc. Anything you don't normally do that makes you feel all self indulgent.)

Mine is bubble baths. I have tons of different ones and I love to sit in a hot foamy tub for 30 or so minutes and read a book.

Hi folks. I just avoided five accidents and endured the shitty parts of folks who don't know how to drie. This is apparently my fault as they all gave me dirty looks, the finger, or both.

I transported a client to Fernley and was already not in the best of moods. On my way out I decided to hang out the Pawn shop and see what I could find in case some other disagreeable person wanted to cop a 'tude.

So after hangin' out for a few minutes I calmed down and got a good deal on .45ACP ($44.00 for 250 rounds).

I feel a little better now. I'm out for a day or so. Figure I'll finish my last orders for the year and reward my hard work this weekend with a new pistola (MONICA will be coming home) and a trip to the gun show in Reno. Thanks for the help everyone. I'll be gettin' that dang SD card so's I can post pics of MONICA and the new ink. Goodnight!

Well I've got over 20+ years where I work, which is a hospital. At the time I started working, hospitals paid the best for non-tech jobs (over twice what other kids my age were making using that phrase "would you like fries with that,") and had fantastic benefits.

I worked afternoons (which paid shift differential) weekends and holidays (holiday pay was higher) and there was time and a half for overtime. Not bad when you're fresh out of high school.

The job I had...the technical term is phlebotomist. Basically I was a hospital vampire and stuck folks for blood tests. When I got that job, no one had ever heard of AIDS. That cropped up while I had that job. Add to that one of my regular floors was substance abuse (both alcohol and drugs) made for an interesting time. I liked the patients. Loathed the doctors. Was okay for the times of work being a night owl, but I had some friends I hadn't been able to see in a year due to my work schedule. When AIDS showed up, it kinda tipped the balance and I decided that perhaps an office job would be a long-term smarter idea. And did I mention I'm a bit of a klutz? I really didn't want to risk a needle exposure and I was klutzy enough to make this a very viable concern.

I'll keep up good thoughts for your safety in your upcoming deployment.

Hmmm...fav indulgence. I've got a foodie one and a non-foodie one. Love prime rib and sitting in a puddle of sunshine and reading.

I adore hot bubble baths too MsG - one of my prime delights is to just lie in a big, bubbly, steaming tub of fragrant water, but since I destroyed a favourite book reading it in the tub (and it slipping from my relaxed fingers) I have gone for the relaxing music and a few candles to just lie back and enjoy! *sigh*

Of course - throw a few more candles and the right man into the mix and I'd give that scene from 'Bull Durham' a shot too...

Also - why is it that take away always looks so much better in movies where people sit cross legged on the floor and feed each other with their chop-sticks? When ever I try to do that I end up with something dark and oily dripped down my front...

and it is never sexy or relaxing at all...

Sorry to hear about your day. I agree, it's *so* much fun when you're grabbed at the last minute to fill in when a sub can't make it/someone has to go out sick and "well, you've got a free prep, so howabout filling in?" moments.

As for IEPs...

this is why I give everyone who asks me "Why don't you go into Special Education?" the evilest of evil eyes. *genuflects in awe* IEPs and ISPED is the work of evil purplebellied alliance types. *shudder*

I think my favorite weekend indulgence is sleeping (a.k.a. napping when ever the heck I feel like it). Best indulgence I can think of right now.

Zeek: I hear ya. Went to a 2-day workshop that I was told by someone that I had to go to today. Unfortunately, today I was at the end of nerves and not the best person in the room. Then at the last hour of the workshop, I was told "Oh, you don't have to be here." *blink* *blink*

*double checks the rest of the posting* Going to 'Vegas again would be an indulgence *sigh* maybe next year for me. (I just know I need to get off these tiny gorramn rocks in the middle of the ocean sometime in the next year when work is on break.)

Micrea: Ooh...game shop...didn't think of that. *ponders a moment* Guess it's not as much of an indulgence anymore because I've fallen off the gaming (again). But I think hand-shredding would be extremely soothing today -- mindless bits of tearing things into confetti, yet it's a useful stress relief.

Rhyianan: G'luck with the tests. Try to take a couple of study sessions somewhere with a nice scenic view of nature...I've had easily stressed students tell me that it helps at times calm and reclaim the mind.

LA: Hope the space monkeys weren't too wound up when you took them for capture-takng with Santa.

HK: *snicker* Yarn whore? *giggle* I can relate. Although, right now I only have three pending projects and only one is knitting-related.

The only real indulgence I can think of, off the top of my head, are the scaldingly hot baths I take. Water so hot one could possibly make soup in it. Literally, a half hour of finally being at the right temperature for my liking. The only part which sucks is the having to get out and be exposed to the cold, cold air.

If you refer to something I do infrequently, going out with Tony and the Dans is something I greatly enjoy, but almost never can do, because of the shitheel schedules we all seem to have.

At least, I can proudly say, my own set of exams are over. Nothing to do for the next eighteen days but lay about the house, annoy my mother, and eat until I explode in a font of turkey and eggnog.

Ahhhhh. Eggnog...
