TV geek alert! Nathan Fillion — star of cult favorite Firefly and a one-time guest on Lost (as Kate's husband) — will star in Drive, a Fox midseason drama exec-produced by Firefly, Wonderfalls, and Angel producer Tim Minear, TV director Greg Yaitanes (Lost, Prison Break, House M.D.), and scribe Ben Queen (Century City). As the title suggests, the show revolves around an underground cross-country race; Fillion — replacing Ivan Sergei (Jack & Jill, Charmed) from the pilot — plays a landscaper pulled into the event after his wife is kidnapped. Shiny news for Nathan! Is it just a pilot so far though? Will it really be more than that? (Yep. I'm pretty cynical 'bout the whole TV land shindig.)

Anyone else hoping Nathan's character will be following Kate to the island in LOST? Or a least show up in another few flashbacks?

Yup!

I figure that would be very nice indeed.

I can't wait til "Drive" is on. Nathan and Tim reunited... they can't go wrong.

I hope like hell they don't cancel this, that they give it a chance to thrive and do well. I'm going to watch with abandon, hope for the best and enjoy it.

Shiny news for Firefly/Serenity! More people see Nathan's acting. More people see Tim Minear's writing/directing/producing. More people end up checking out Firefly/Serenity. More Browncoats!! And then Wonder Woman!!!

"will star in Drive, a Fox midseason drama" More than just the pilot.

LOST. Hoping. We have read that Nathan will be in at least one more episode. I think a Sawyer flashback for various reasons. I worked out a whole sequence where Kevin arrested Sawyer and Kevin is on the plane and is one of the two people sucked out the back of plane and dropped his shoe into a tree near where Jack fell. Is on the island the first night and becomes part of the smoke monster. Wishful thinking?? IT COULD HAPPEN especially on LOST.

Can't figure out if Kevin is a good guy/bad cop or a good guy gone bad because of Kate or a good guy just killed because of Kate--seems to be lots of those. Does he follow Kate to kill her or save her? Seems like nobody is totally good or totally evil on LOST. And we know Nathan can portray a totally evil guy...see Caleb in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Speaking of wishful thinking!!!

Come on Serenity Special Edition!! Sequel. Sequel. Serenity set we can tour at Universal. Firefly like movies/episodes on Sci-Fi/DVD.

IT COULD HAPPEN.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

The pilot has already been shot, but with another actor, Ivan Sergei. Nathan is replacing him in the series, which probably has the typical thirteen episode initial order from Fox. How many of those thirteen actually air (or are even produced) will be determined by ratings.

I just wish I had a Nielsen box or diary so that what I watch actually mattered.

Hey anonymous1, there's something I've been meaning to mention for a while. Why is it that on a Firefly site you feel it necessary to identify Nathan Fillion as "Our Captain" each time you post something? If anyone around here doesn't know who Nathan is by now they have serious problems.

Possible comments:

Pictures are always appreciated.
We love our Captain.
Wouldn't our Nate make a great Indy Jones?
Did you hear about Flan-that-wasn't?

We may even have a chance to make obsessive fan of the week as a group. Browncoats.

Seriously, my friend turned the Christian Bale fans into an e-mailing machine and EW started pushing his career. Now he's Batman.

So even though the forum I posted under is titled GENERAL DISCUSSIONS. It actually says on the COMMUNITY page that it is "General Discussions
General discussions and comments relating to Firefly." So I got in the habit of apologizing for posting Nathan non-Firefly info by including (Our Captain) in the subject. So if someone got mad at me posting some SLiTHER info...I would reply back "It's for Our Captain." Now I just like typing it. On a SLiTHER part of the internet, I post Nathan (Our Sheriff) Fillion stuff...cause they might not know what (Our Captain) meant.

And Nathan is Our Captain. He is as big a fan of Firefly/Serenity as we are. See all the posts about him showing up at the Cancelled Flanvention.

Note I even felt it necessary to add "mentions Firefly" to the subject of this post "EW.com Deal Report on Nathan (Our Captain) Fillion's Drive deal--mentions Firefly!!!" And Whoo-hoo! Post made the news section!!

Nathan...our Captain...Bill Pardy...it's all shiny! Anytime we can link up any of the cast's new projects with a mention of Firefly, it's another small but vital step on the road to bringing our Captain and our crew back to the screen - small or big. (As someone's already said!)

Glad to hear someone else is a Slither fan, Anonymous1. Deer wrestling. Shouldn't it be an Olympic event?

I'll be watching Nathan's new project no matter how many episodes they air.

Glad they left that scene out of the movie. Did ya see all the SLiTHER DVD extras. Lots of Nathan in the extras. Very funny stuff. Including the commentary with Nathan and Director James Gunn. I'm hoping the White Noise: The Light people gave Nathan a camera to film backstage stuff too and that Nathan does that commentary too. And on Drive too!

'Drive' time for Fillion at Fox
By Nellie Andreeva
Dec 15, 2006
Quote:

Nathan Fillion has been tapped as the lead on Fox's midseason drama series "Drive."

The show, from 20th Century Fox TV and executive producers Tim Minear, Ben Queen and Greg Yaitanes, chronicles an underground race across America.

Fillion will play Alex Tully, a charming, rogue landscaper who is coerced into joining the race to search for his wife who had been abducted.

In the original pilot, the role was played by Ivan Sergei.

Fillion's casting in "Drive" stems from the talent holding deal the actor inked with Fox and 20th TV in October (HR 10/17).

Fillion, who is friends with Minear, was first approached with the project in the spring but couldn't do the pilot because of a scheduling conflict with the filming of his feature "White Noise 2: The Light," slated for release Jan. 5.

"I was a little disappointed because Tim is a friend, and there is nothing better than working with people you know and like," Fillion said.

At a barbecue this summer, after the pilot was shot but before Fox picked it up to series, Minear again floated the idea for "Drive" to Fillion and showed him the pilot.

"I was so excited about it," Fillion said of his first reaction to the tape. "He has some really talented actors lined up in it, and it's exciting to get to meet them and work with them."

In addition to "White Noise 2," Fillion will soon appear in the indie "Waitress," which is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.

Fillion, whose credits also include the series "Two Guys and a Girl" and "Firefly" and the features "Serenity" and "Slither," is repped by the Gersh Agency and 3 Arts Entertainment.

-Stay Shiny
"The people who made the show, and the people who saw the show, which is roughly the same number of people, fell in love with it, a little bit too much to let it go, too much to lay down arms when when the battle looked pretty much lost. In Hollywood, people like that are called unrealistic, quixotic, obsessive... In my world, they're called Browncoats."

Every week in the print magazine in the letters section, there is an obsessive fan of the week: people who have lots of stuff or write lots of letters.

There's a reason the article is headed TV GEEK ALERT.

Diz: We can't rely on EW liking Joss. We have to demonstrate that the people who buy their magazine like him too and demonstrate to their advertisers that we buy stuff because of it. Joss relied on Firefly being a good show and it got cancelled. Money talks and we fans should talk too. And not just to each other.
