The new movie "Children of Men" starring Clive Owen, Julianne Moore and Chiwetel Ejiofor is now open in limited release. General release is December 29th.

I have watched the movie, found it quite good.

A little dark, but it does feature one of my favourite actors Clive Owen.

Worth a watch I would say.

As for Chiwetel's role not on a par with his role in Serenity

Why have they taken the sky from ME

A very good film. Maybe even a great film.

Chewtel does not feature heavily so that is not a good reason to watch it.

Starts slowly, and builds up. Finishes in a special way.

There are a few small issues here and there, but to me it is probably the best film released this year.

Damn. I am a huge Clive Owen and Julianne Moore fan but I was especially looking forward to this for more Chiwetel. Oh well... glad I've been warned that his part isn't that major.

I've seen him in Serenity and Kinky Boots... it would be nice to have a third to try and bridge? or round out that experience...

Still looking forward to it.

what pissed me off, was tht it was indicated at least on Montreal listings to be releasefd for Dec 25th, and then when that day came... no mention of it anywhere!! grrr..... I was sooo looking forward to seeing it. I ended up seeing blood diamonds yesterday... quite good movie it was though.

I hope it is for geenral release this friday... i am quite anxiosu to see it...IU dont go out t osee many movies.. .too expensive.. but this is a movie Iw ant to spend money on.

and you can watch Chiwetel in the Tsunami Aftermath mini series on HBO.. he is excellent and he got the GG nod for this too... he is all the way through it..

He is also in Love Actually, tho it is a small role, being an ensemble piece...

There was a little news special about the movie last night, I only caught the end of it so all I heard was a snippet of an interview with the lady who plays the pregnant woman. I'm sure he was mentioned though, it's possible they named some of his past films seeing as he's not that well known, possibly some mention of Serenity.

hmm... well, I saw it this weekend. There was a fair amount of Chiwetel. He was one of the major characters... so I'm not sure why you thought he wasn't featured heavily. True he wasn't constantly on-screen but the story revolves around Clive Owen's character so I didn't expect to see him throughout. He received far more screen time than some of the people above him in the credits.

I think I liked it. I'm not sure as it was disturbing (as expected) and the way it was written or shot drops you into the chaos and doesn't bother to give you a lot of information on this universe. My browncoat pal & I that saw it plan to read the book it was based on and then see it again. That might garner greater appreciation.

The film did seem to end abruptly. There were several people in the theatre who commented about it (along the lines of "that's it?" or "is that the end?").

I really enjoyed it. Although I don't think dark quite covers it. Hellishly grim is a better description.

The story is good and very believable. The acting was great from everyone (check out The Operative! Woot!) and the whole movie was very well done. It's the kind of movie that should win awards for cinematography but more than likely won't since awards for that are usually given to the movie with the nicest scenery. The landscape in 'Children of Men' is excellently done - the colours are constantly dark, dank shades of grey and blue. The cities are full of big brotherish advertisements ("Suspicious? Report it!") and the countryside is harsh, cold and peppered with animal corpses. Add to that some of the most chaotic battle scenes I've ever seen on cinema and you really fall into step with the main character. I think this was the best movie of last year.

STORYMARK

Saw it last weekend, and really enjoyed it. Very dark and grim, yes, but in a believable way. It also ends on an optamistic note, so it's not a total downer.

The cinamatography is incredible at times. There are a number of scenes done entirely in 1 take that are just amazing. The car chase in particular really makes you feel like you are trapped in the vehicle with the rest of the characters.

Can't want for the DVD so I can see a bit of how they pulled it off.

It doesn't surprise me that this movie was made at Universal. Universal has alwyas been a very genre friendly studio stretching all the way back to the Golden Age. MGM had it's musicals, Paramount it's comedies, Warner it's thrillers and Universal made a name for themselves with their horror films. All through the years, Universal was the place to bring sci-fi films to as well, so it's no surprise that a year after SERENITY, they follow it up with CHILDREN OF MEN.

I finally saw it on Friday, and I absolutely loved it. I loved how they took the sci-fi genre, and just stripped it down to the bare essentials. I wouldn't even consider it a sci-fi movie. More of a "high concept" film that examines that idea and what it could do the world we live in and visualizes it. I love the fact that one of the leads that you think will stick around ends up getting swiftly killed in the first half hour(?) or so. And the amazing ten minute or so sequences that happen very quickly and all in one uniterrupted take with no music and a cinema verite style. Even with the "handheld' stuff on FIREFLY and SERENITY, you know that it's still CGI. Impressive, but still an illusion nonetheless. But in CHILDREN OF MEN, when you see someone hit by a bullet, and there's the tiniest drop of blood on the lens of the camera and it stays there for the longest time. But when they're ambushed in the forest, or are escaping from the farm or Theo is running through the fugee camp as it's all going to Hell, you really feel like you are there as it's happening for real and it's completely spontaneous.

I can see this film as like the next MATRIX as a flick that revolutionizes sci-fi.

Saw it yesterday(Sunday afternoon)and I thought it was very well done. The style reminded me a lot of United 93, sort of semi-documentary, with little embellishment.

I agree that you are plunked right down into the story and it takes a while to get your bearings. The same with the end-you're left guessing whether they are safe or are they entering something even more horrible.

One thing I'd like to know is more about Michael Caine's character. He was very good with a character that didn't have much screen time. I can imagine certain people I know ending up like him in about 25 years or so.

I was in awe at the sets for the London scenes and the fugee camp. Right down to the tiniest detail the sets were very believable and real looking.

Glad to see so many liked, I was stoked when I saw a preview for its general release...should be getting out to see it this weekend.

I'm a big fan of any movie remotely like this one (Blade runner, Gattica, Logan's run, you name it) and when I saw the special during the BSG finale I immediately wanted to see it.

Children of Men is excellent, and I beg you all to see it. Really inventive science-fiction movie-making, and I'm sure Joss would approve. Chiwetel's excellent in it as well, and his character has a fair few layers.

Sadly, Universal have screwed the marketing up ala Serenity though, as the film has taken very little in the US with minimal advertising and some badly judged trailers. So I'd take it as a personal kindness if you all bop along and see it.

Remember to stock up on cheery Calvin & Hobbes to read afterwards though, as it does get a bit grim! :)

I saw it . Chewie , I didn't even recognize at first . Good job with the role ! Went to see it for the Michael Caine character . Mr. Caine himself did not disappoint . Not a Clive Owen fan , myself .

Still a good , thought-provoking film . Thanks to 'Versal for takin' risks . Not as great as it might have been . But , it makes one think . Always a good thing .
