I thought I would raise the average age of the forum a bit (late 50's) so hello to you all out there.

I have arrived here by way of the Serenity DVD first as a birthday present (thanks to youngest daughter) and then the Firefly DVDs.

I spent last night converting my eldest daughter to the cause through a marathon Firefly viewing session that finished at 4 in the morning. I cannot think of any other TV series that would even come close to inspiring us to do that.

So it is TV genius as far as I am concerned. The storylines are great and the casting is excellent. It has made me laugh, cry (Summer Glau has anyway - she is is just about perfect as River imho) and become totally absorbed in the alternative reality. I can't really ask any more than that.

Hello DBrief and Welcome!!!

I see my gorgeous Mei Mei has beaten me to it already!! YOu will find that you have family here - just as I discovered it when I arrived a few months ago... also after a marathon - I just wanted the story to go on and on... the way I have found new friends and had my intellect and imagination stimulated has made this my online home!!

So - welcome home!! Pop into the threads and share your insight and experiences... There are plenty of mature folk about - you'd be surprised!! One of my best friends here is also in her late 50s and is planning to visit me in Australia this year!!

This is the shiniest place in the 'verse and you are among friends!!

Yes you can, DeBerriff! You can ask for more.. we do it all the time.

Welcome to our shiny site.. we're very glad you're here and you're living proof that sharing the DVD's with folks works! Your story is like many of our stories.. saw, fell in love, came here and found a home. That's truth for me, and I hope it will be for you as well. For you're a Browncoat now... part of something bigger and it's a wonderful feeling.

I am the supply clerk here and I give new folks their very own virtual browncoat.. a sort of symbol of your belonging.. most folks like it, I hope you will too.

*hands DeBerriff a browncoat from the storeroom*

Join in often, there will likely be folks along to offer you strawberries and iceplanets.. the chocolate ones are great! Make yourself to home, because that is what you've found.

Oh and by the way.. I'm in my early 50's.. we come in all ages and from all different places and it's fun! So I know you'll enjoy yourself.

Ask me how to join The Appreciatin' Nathan Crew!

Welcome to our obsession!! Age don't matter... ever. We all share our love of the best TV show EVER in a variety of ways; voting at richlabonte.net/tvvote every hour...
It's amazing to me, with all the tripe currently on television, that no one has seen fit to re-light the Firefly! We have hope laced with pessimism...(a fellow fan on another thread called it 'hopism'...or pessope....) It seems that more people are learning about the Firefly Phenom everyday...so we can only have hopism that someday, some smart cookie will...well, you know the rest. Join up over at SciFi forums and beg...we've got our own threads over there as well...check in with whedonesque for any hopism.. have a couple of cups of coffee and settle in for a spell.

Thank you for the warm welcome - it is very much appreciated. I will wear my virtual browncoat with pride.

I live on the Isle of Man in the middle of the Irish sea and with a population of around 80,000 we only have limited cinema facilities. So DVDs are all important and Firefly and Serenity both work well in that medium. The characters are to me what matter, not the visual effects, so a wide-screen TV works just fine.

I grew up with Dr Who, Star Trek, then Blake's 7. All good harmless fun - but not great My daughters grew up with Star Wars and I moved on to the Alien films with the first remaining a firm favourite. Then the special effects seem to push any need for a decent story line or strong characters to one side with a small number of notable exceptions such as Blade Runner and Dark City.

So many recent films are, in my opinion, just plain sloppy in their production values and to be honest I had lost interest in the genre and may have missed some excellent films. And until last November and a gift of the Serenity DVD I had missed out on Firefly/Serenity.

Nothing in the above list apart from Alien has had the same impact on me, and Serenity is a much happier place than Nostromo.

So I am totally hooked and it is a pleasure to be on board.

I shall now spend a bit of time following up the links you have kindly given me. Thank you again.

Welcome home, dBerriff -- a Manxcoat no less!
You're #24517 aboard our shiny ship and I think
all will agree the virtual browncoat looks great
on you.

Please share in the strawberries and Mudder's Milk
we keep on hand for the new arrivals. Stow your
stuff in the bay, have a rest in your cabin looking
up all the stuff on the Cortex, then come up
to the galley for the questioning of the buffet.

Don't mind the naughty, naughty Penguin, who has
been trolling for a spanking elsewhere.

Age? Age? What age? Got a little spring left
in my chicken but it's not like true youth or
anything like that...

If TRM finds that link to Ten Things I Learned etc.,
try it. I found it worth the slow load on my old wood-burner.

'Lo, DBrief. Glad you found your way here, and glad to see somebody else who is isolated! If you want more, there's fanfic, role-playing sites (there are some that beat almost anything on a screen) and the fantastic artwork you see here daily. And the conversation is incredible, too.

Long days and pleasant nights,

Howdy.

I'm only 27, but with all the drinking and smoking and drugs, the complete lack of physical exersion on my part, the fast food and the inability on my part to ingest anything green, I usually feel about 50.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the site and the browncoat ranks dBerriff! Glad to have you aboard.

Congrats on your first conversion! We love hearing about new people being introduced to the show as much as we do having new fans show up and introduce themselves. The more the merrier!

Take care and keep flyin'!

Welcome Home, DBerriff!

To echo everyone above, this is a great place to share your love of Firefly with people who understand and sympathize.

Post well and post often. We look forward to chatting with you.

Make sure you watch the River Tam viral videos, read the unaired script "Dead or Alive", look into the various books available on Firefly, and check out the guerilla marketing efforts here and elsewhere.
