so i was watching "heart of gold" heard a backgroud noise. i re-ran it and turns out it was more of joss's snappy dialogue. about half way thru, mal and mandy are shown downstairs and jayne is upstairs....says "no youre pullin' not squeezin' like i said. next one of you dont hit the board is missing out on a speacial treat!"
he would get most poetic about his pecker.

Were there monkeys? terrible space monkeys perhaps?

I heard the background noise too but I didn't have time to rewind and listen. I just watched this episode 2 days ago. I'm so happy that I know what it was now!!! Thank you for posting this.

Thank Universal for airing Firefly in HD at

Watch the episode with close caption on and that will solve the argument. I did, I know the truth.

I can't believe this post is what got me to stop lurking... but the series is rife with double-meaning laden lines! (Given the time Whedon spent in the UK, it's not really suprizing. And it just kinda adds to the fun.)

So you're both right!

You're free to lurk, if that's warm and fuzzy for ya, but most of us Firefly f(l)ans are the non-biting sort! Watch out for BryonBoas's snake, though, its on the loose in a thread

Ha! Offer of tea gratefully received. Am a big fan, myself.

As for the biting, I recognize most of the names by this point, so know it’s a good bunch. My lurking’s not out of disrespect, I just like the back of the bar better- you always find a seat, and the view’s all kinds of fun..! Thanks for the invite to chat, but I’m, uh, not sure I know how to, he says invoking the luddite clause… I barely figured out this posting thing!

And thanks for the welcome- very kind.

Hey I'm with ya, I was a background lurker for a while, NEVER joined a fansite, laughed at people who would change their name to James T. Kirk, and had no clue how to "post" anything that didn't actually involve a postholer... but once I read the threads about religion and realized no one was yelling, I thought well, if they can be that accepting, then they can certainly accept the technologically inept/uninterested.
I love it here, now. And ya notice I don't bother with shiny pictures and dodads...

If you have any questions, we're all too happy to answer!

Would ya like one lump or two?

It's in the script. Since I'm lacking the motivation to actually dig it out and scan the pages, this'll have to do:

That ain't nothin'! Y'all are pulling, not squeezing like I said. Next one doesn't hit that board is giving up a special treat, < you understand? > [dong MA?]

If you've ever fired a gun, you know it's best to squeeze the trigger smoothly instead of pulling on it; improves aim. Now, as for what that "special treat" is, that's anyone's guess.

I think lurking is something that can't be understood by the non-lurky type. We just don't get it. We have to assume the lurkers are just scared or shy or something.

My brother Geekmafia posts here a little but he mostly lurks. It drives me nuts when I visit and he's online. I read over his shoulder and keep saying "Ooh! Post in this thread! Say this! Say that!" and he just gives me a look and says "No!" All he wants to do is read the thread.

*shakes head* I don't get it!

On the subject of the thread itself ... that is the funniest thing I've read in a good long while! I'm watching that episode again tonight.

To be fair it does sound like Jayne was having fun too. Then again, that man does love his weapons.

DTH

Well, guess I have to go to the bar to get another drink now and then, anyway…

The lurking’s more a function of the way my life’s geared in terms of lack of screen time and technical proficiency. And I see it your brother’s way, too. Sometimes it’s just a blast to kick back and watch these posts take on a life of their own!

The thread topic is hysterical. A lot of the writing is very clever in that way, I think. As Iremist alluded in her reply to me, watch Kaylee when she explains how a postholer works, or notice Mal’s choice of words in Our Mrs Reynolds when he tells Jayne to “go play with his rainstick,” after frustrating the big man's attempt to barter for Saffron, or Zoe’s when she comes on scene in Warstories and says what is written as a segue to Jayne’s second, “I’ll be in my bunk,” comment: “Jayne- grab your weapon!” (Check out the script on tvwhiz- it’s hard to tell on my DVD, but Book seems to pick up on it, too.)

All entirely fitting for the scene literally, like with the guns in Heart, but it’s the choice of words that’s so brilliant, and, I’d submit, a little too close for coincidence. (The scene where Badger talks about getting his hands on… invites for the Shindig is an excellent walk through this style, especially since the scripted conversation eventually explains the joke.)

This kind of double-meaning humor I think tends to be more British, and I just assumed that since Whedon had spent time in the UK growing up, you see some of this in his writing. And it cracks me up.

So, anyway... Think you’re probably sorry you asked! (Hands back soapbox) Will go back to my table and put my feet up and watch what ensues. (Hopefully no violence...)

Only one lump, thanks, Iremist. Don’t want to get too excitable…
