"Did he just go crazy and fall asleep?"

Good morning LA. I've been neglecting you lately and I am very sorry about that. Time is a weirdly flowing entity for me right now. I know that the ticks in my watch (a lie, it's digital; but play along) say that each second is the same length as every other, but I just know that isn't true. So I get all excited when I see someone post and I want to answer and I think about what I'm going to say, and then I read another post and I think more thoughts and by the end of it, I get to one or two people and either forget (for the moment) the first thought and it become obsolete by the time I get back to it or I start a response off-line that gets to be days old before it sees cyberspace.

Okay, I'm tired now. See what this does to me?
And the Faithful like VeX (I think I like that acronym best) and Penguin--and of course--you get nods and winks and hugs and all but the substantial stuff must be gleaned elsewhere. I'm sorry

Like this? (My favorite artist)

Ooh, Ooh, Ooh! I almost forgot my relevant stories of the weekend!!

One: So I read about the Peguin wine, right. Saturday I go into Job #2 and what to my wnodering eyes should appear none other than Penquin Wine on it's own special display stand. I almost stopped in my tracks thunderstruck, but that would have seemed unseemly to the customers so I just grinned like a ninny until the effect wore off.

Two: Never say never. After all the matress attacks we've heard about on these very pages and my denial of ever having such an experience personally, it happened to me. I woke up to the alarm sounding off at top dB's (let's call it "clatter") and sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. I "wisely" place my alarm away from the bed to make sure I HAVE TO GET UP to turn it off. (Or hit snooze. No plan is perfect.) Did ever get up from laying down that the blood drains from your head and you fall down and go boom? I went down. And backwards and hit the middle of my back against the bed's sideboard. Ouch! Luckily I was only semi-conscious on impact or I have a feeling it would have REALLY hurt. As it was the jolt kinda disoriented me on top of the, uh, fainting spell (there, I said it), and I had to figure out why my back hurted so much. Of course my buttocks absorbed a lot of the blow so there was a little spine compression too. All in all working my tail all day long was sadly the best medicine probably since I felt no ill effect since.

Nothing as dramatic as RMIG's weekend but kinda deeply mystical just the same.

Morning, LA, it's always so good to see you.

RIMG, no fussing just tons to big hugs.

JQ, so nice of you to mention me when I hadn't stopped by the pub, yet. Glad to know that you like VeX. I chose it for my 76th name - Private VeX.

PR, I hope some good sleep will help to change your funk.

Penguin, I'd like a sip of that Penguin that you have. By the way, I was wondering what are you doing in that pic with Magda that she has up on MySpace?

Morning MsG and StinkingRose.

Have a great day. I have to run off to work. I hope to be back later.

EDIT: LA, if you plan to get that Heinlein book, you had better plan on several others, as it is the end of a long line of them.

Read Methusalah's Children, a short story that can be found in The Past Through Tomorrow among other short story collections. Also read Have Spacesuit, Will Travel (can also be found in The Past Through Tomorrow). Then read The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, then on to The Number of the Beast, The Cat Who Walks Through Walls, and finally, To Sail Beyond the Sunset.

*Wanders in*

It turns out that we're now allowed to talk about the CFS job from the other night, so I'll stop my teasing and spill the beans.

*waits for the storytime circle to gather around before starting his tale*

At around 1am on Sunday morning (ie, less than an hour after going to bed), we got paged to responded to the local library carpark, which had been labelled as the police forward headquarters, to assist with a siege situation, possibly involving explosives. As exciting (or dangerous) as that may sound, it ended up quite boring from our perspective, as we spent the hours from 1am to sunrise sitting in the cab of our firetruck, watching the STAR Force cops (equivalent of SWAT) running around doing their stuff.

It turned out that there was a woman in the local politician's office, armed with a rifle (and supposedly explosives). The negotiators managed to talk her into coming out of the building, but after they shot her with their tasers, she just pulled the needles out and ran back inside (typical government bought gear, doesn't work as advertised), so they spent a few more hours to talk her into giving up again.

So that was my night, and now that they've sorted everything out on their end, they aren't so worried about the media getting hold of details, thus my being able to talk about it.

Here endeth the lesson.

PAID???? They don't pay us a brass razoo (which as in actual coin, currently worth about 20AUD, but that's another story) for what we do, however they will re-imburse us our petrol costs for travel to and from the state training center. We do all of this from the goodness of our hearts. That and various laws we get to break / ignore. These include control over the traffic lights, driving down the wrong side of the road above the posted speed limit, comandeering of private vehicles, legalised break-and-enter, ignoring fuel rationing (which we suffered in early 2002) and other stuff.

In the beginning the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and is widely considered as a bad move.

Yeah, nothing makes the owners (or security company) turn up to let you into their building faster than telling them you'll kick/cut the door down if no-one arrives within the next 5 minutes.

I still wonder a bit how you're going to manage to take any trips across the big pond when you're getting paid in law-breaking...

I'll make it there, even if I have to use my powers under legislation to commandeer an aircraft.

HUGS Nico...sounds awsome, but this is one of the reasons I always opt for tranq guns. Even if they run back in, they pass out and you can just drag em out:)....hmmm paid in law breaking. This sounds like my kind of job!

HUGS PR... of course he's coming. He'll get to see you ( and that's one hell of a motivator!)

Aww LA hugs and much love and hot tea and homemade soup!!
