*jogging into the thread*

So, had to tell y'all about this one...kinda floored me. Have you ever sent out so much email in one day that your email server blocks you? The error was "Your IP address has sent the maximum number of messages per day. To reduce the possibility of spam, your outgoing message has been blocked."

"What...I've wiped the file? Oh, damn...I've wiped all the files? I've wiped the Internet? Oh no, I don't even have a modem!"
That's the only thing that came to my mind...

Sorry, had to share. Off once again!

Hugs and kisses!

Oooh, I remember that....maybe getting sick isn't that bad. I'll be sure to get sick next time I want to raid another planet. Yeah, and that book was way better than the movie by the way, so I hope that's what you were referencing. It bugs me when they take a classic story and then feel the need to change it all around. Do they just forget that the reason it got so famous was because of the story?? Come on people! Right, ahem...sorry for the little rant there.

You don't have a Starbucks?? I didn't think that it was even possible to have a town without one! Although it is true that locally owned places have far better coffee than the chain ones

Oh and good luck with the Firefly club Whitefall!

i had the radio show in mind in honesty, so neither xD and i think it's a little harsh to describe those without your highbrow taste's as the idiot masses, it's worth remembering that film is a vastly differant medium to the novel, or the radio-play, or the amusement park ride and change's are always going to have to be made to make allowance's for that. Beyond that, it's worth remembering that the hugely popular films which are REALLY shit, are the minority, most hugely popular films straddle the boundaries between entertainment and craftsmanship. which is how i like 'em, on the whole ^^

don't get me wrong, i'm not averse to the arthouse, but i think there are films within the genre which are entirely too focused on being terribly intellectual, and forget that a film is, at the end of the day, entertainment.

just thought a little devil's advocate counter rant was called for ^_~

*waves at LA29*

don't be feeling bad about having no starbucks, they make crap coffee anyway, you get better coffee-shops on the outskirts, more interesting too xD think my favorite is this bizarre little one with a tiny upstairs, and a big basement, you go down a spiral staircase and it's just an absolute mess! paintins are stacked everywhere, half the floor is filled with iron sculpture's and odd's and end's of collectable's, junk, whatever, there's an internet cafe bit crammed over on one side through some twisty little partition walls, a selection of picture frame corner's on one wall for the framing business that runs out of it, and then every so often they cram in a table, or a sofa, for the customer's. how it function's i'll never know, but the staff are great, really helpful, always got a smile, nothing is too much trouble, and it's just the worlds best mess of an atmosphere xD not sure why it came to mind...oh! yeah, coffee shops on the outskirts, well, it's outwith the centre at least, even if not completely outskirty, but, they just don't come like that in the centre xD

Gods are great. But the heart is greater, for it is from the heart they come, and to the heart they shall return.

Bah! I stop by to say hi and you are all blaspheming the coffee gods!

Anyone who makes coffee that tastes like "burnt" (and I know exactly what you mean, HK!) doesn't know how to make coffee. I was raised in a Mormon household, so I wasn't exposed to coffee until college. Until recently I had been making coffee using powdered instant flavored coffee, but I switched to brewing my own because I've been making an effort to cut out all high fructuous corn syrup from my diet, and cut down on the amount of sugar I use. I found this site: http://blog.moertel.com/pages/coders-guide-to-coffee and followed some of the directions there. I bought myself a $15 coffee grinder and a $5 "pour over" coffee filter system, and started buying freshly roasted whole bean coffee. It took me awhile to find a brand that I like, but now I grind just as much as I need for a single cup (takes less than 10 seconds), and pour not-quite-boiling water over the grounds in the filter, then add milk and a bit of (sugar free) flavoring syrup to the coffee. If I were to put whipped cream on top, I think it would taste at least as good as Starbuck's White Chocolate Mocha, and it's by far the best home-brewed coffee I've ever tasted.

Coffee can taste as good as it smells -- you just have to be sure that it doesn't get stale over the time between when it's roasted and when you use it, doesn't get burnt in the grinding process, doesn't get burnt by too-hot water, and doesn't get burnt by sitting on a warming plate for several hours. I still prefer a bit of milk and flavoring in my coffee, but it's much better than the burnt ickiness that I used to drink at the office.

Anyhow. Hi everyone. Work has been crazy and my health has been bad but not as bad as last winter. I just wanted to stop by and said hi while I had a free moment. ;)

Yes seriously Jonny they lost the test booklets... however I don't have to do them by Friday which is good, but unfortunately it pushes my certification date ( you know the certification I already have, but they're making me get again for some random reason) to Feb 23rd. Which also pushes the nice $1000 check I'm supposed to get back till then as well. Messing much financial stuff up!!!! Stopping now before rant becomes nutty( well nuttier than usual)

Well I'm off to tutor again:) HUGS to all and sundry

As for the "black tea is stronger than green tea" commentary: Seems like you folks only drink the "steep the green tea leaves in water and drink" green tea. weaklings You gotta try the powdered green tea used for Japanese tea ceremonies...The stuff is greener than the wheatgrass stuff some folks drink (and there's no wimping out by adding cream or sugar...that's for infants -- not even the women drink it like that )

Yah!!! CK!!! Hurrah!!!!

And PR!! Thanks for the hugs, Rose! Lol I suppose you read the previous thread...

Anyhoo... Firefly Club... not going so well. Finally did the present-y thing, and I realized after two months of waiting, I really wasnt all that prepared... However, I learned some annoying things: for one, the sponsor (in this case one of the newer teachers who likes Firefly) would have to be at every meeting... and if we were to have them on weekends, well... I can't ask her to do that. And there is also the issue of what the club would do with the money it would get as part of the school.... Frankly the Club doesnt need any money, only the recognition. Also, what would the club "add to the campus" or whatever: apparently bringing students with similar interests together isnt enough, you have to contribute in some way.

And that lead the ASB folk to the conclusion I had thought of long ago: we really dont need the school's approval to do what we want to do.

Blarg, but its annoying, the approval was what I wanted: I wanted to be able to say "We're the firefly club, care to watch with us?"... ya know, some respectibility on the way to Boros, as it were.

Seems at this juncture we have two options:
-make the club more active, so maybe do some
volunteering with our firefly buddies, or somesuch, and... somehow avoid the sponsor-at-each-meeting.......
-abandon the idea of being an oficial club at school to begin with, run it as an email list, and, pun intended, be independent. No quarterly reports, no sponsors, but no official organization. This course seems easier, but if we all had shirts or something to advertise, we might be called a gang (a bunch of folk wearing the same shirt that isnt school-affiliated).

At the moment I'm collecting emails, which i'll need either way. I'll take a vote on it, I suppose. But its looking like, after all this wait, the best option might be to go it alone.

"If there isnt already a club for your interest, start your own!" they say.... go se. There's an anime club, what does that add to the school? They just want clubs that are mainstream, or that somehow "give back to society." Or at least that's how I feel.

Bah. Bureaucracies can go to the special hell.

And does it differentiate the bad parasites from the beneficial ones (yes, they do exist)?

I’ve been taking acidophilus to replenish the beneficial bacteria in my system, which can be killed off by a cleanse of any kind and are very important. However, I’m fairly certain there are no beneficial parasites. A parasite by its very nature is a leach and benefits only itself. If you find a legitimate source that says otherwise, please let me know. Acidophilus can be picked up at any health food store, and is basically universally recommended by naturopaths to anyone doing a cleanse (or even having any digestive issues in general)
As for what I’ve been taking for the killing: cloves (meh) black walnut (ugh) and wormwood (beyond icky!) are the recommended herbs for wiping out nasties. I have been adding some powdered cinnamon to cut the taste a little, and putting it all in a shotglass with pomegranate juice and choking it down. Three times a day for seven days now (I’m halfway done). I’ve also been taking extra vitamin C, which is supposed to help with detox, and all my usual minerals and vitamins as well as some anti-inflammatory herbs to help with the aching. I just got up and can’t think of the name of those, but it’s probably best to do some of your own research on things like this.
And I'm not trying to live a totally nasty-free life, I'm trying to get rid of the nasties that have made my guts clench on a regular basis for the past year. My immune system can still take care of the other stuff; just got too overloaded to deal with these things. *ruffles Odds's hair*

Hello everyone!

RIMG, why on Earth did you get to work at 4 AM?
Silly Rabbit.

Well, Boss is on vacation till the end of the month. I'm caught up from my day off last Friday, and the big weekend that followed.

I hadn't mentioned it, but Husband's two daughters flew in on the 18th to see their dad & grandfather, and meet Carson (and me). We had a great time, and I am settling into the Grandmavourneen role. Baby is due in August - and I will probably be in Florida in June for the baby shower.

Penguin, your Mr Burns is most excellent. I've been searching for a good Nr Burns gif from the show and they don't exist. Yours is promptly being filed away in my 'bucket account!

I've done the detox thing, too. Made me sick as a dog and really made me think about the foods I eat. ( I type that as my 3rd cup of coffee of the day sits beside me...)

Well, I'm off to the pub and see everyone there...

Spent the morning prep period frantically writing the huge legal document for the meeting only to have mom choose not to show up and instead dump suspended kid off illegally and dash to work. Causing me to have to locate kid, drag him to office, re-suspend, call mom and tell her he can't come back from a suspension unless parents show up for meeting. She claims she didn't know this ( which is odd seeing as this will be the 12th time he's been suspended in the last year and a half) and by this point the bell is ringing, my prep is over and I have to dash back and start teaching...argh!

Anyway, so what's everyone up to today? At least we're closing in on the weekend:)

PR- ok sounds icky but productive

Er, what was happening there? No, don't. Never mind.

Edit: Lookie what I just bought ya MsG! For your choice of uses: bad parents that don't take responsibility or evil administrators that lose important papers!

I bet she'd tell you Jonny LOL

Anyone ever wonder why people have kids they have no intention of caring for? 'Cause birth control is cheap and readily available so if you didn't want them, why did you have them? Sorry long day and just had a parent say her kid was a success because he's not been sent to jail.

JQ, do you really want to know? OK, I know the answer to that.

MsG, I've often felt that there should be requirements for being a parent. It drives me crazy sometimes.

Ooops, I gotta go. I need to work with my students.

Beats me on the parent thing, MSG.

I'm just about to teach a three hour class and my hands have decided that now is the *perfect* time to explode into a rash. I don't even know what brought it on. They're all red and cracked and even bleeding a bit on one side. Ew!

Perfect. Just perfect. Would it look weird if I wore gloves to class?

Wear the gloves (thin ones) and tell them that you are having trouble keeping your hands warm.

Oooh... pretty...

No dice on the gloves. It's freezing here, so I only have thick fleece ones. *sigh* At least my hands seem to be getting better.

And she probably wonders why her kid is always getting suspended. Can you say "lack of parenting?" I knew you could. How parents think their kids don't know exactly how disinterested in them they are is beyond me. And that they think it's not going to effect the kids in the short and long run is even more beyond me.

If you don't want kids, don't have them. If you didn't realize what it meant to be a parent and now it's too late? Seek help. But don't think that your fed up behaviour isn't shaping the adults they are going to become.

Phew...end rant. Howdy everyone!

Thanks for the information! I need to start feeling better, and if I get brave enough (and figure out where to find these things), I may try what you've suggested.

Totally agree with this bit. If they aren't willing to do anything with their kid then why didn't they like put them up for adoption when they were little?? Then maybe they could've been raised by someone who actually cared! People tend to piss me off....

Adoption's just as bad in other ways (because it deals with government, and that is bad news). I would almost rather people got (early 1st term) abortions, or were at least smart enough to use birth control methods...

Edited to fix my Freudian slip.

I personally am against abortion, because it really is killing a person, if it is a slightly less developed person. I think if they have a child they don't want then adoption is better because then they can give them to someone who will want them. Or they should just be more careful and not get pregnant at all!

Not even gonna get into the abortion discussion, because I probably won't be able to change your mind, and vice versa (plus, there's a nice place in RWED we could take this if we dared to tread there), but I did say almost.

Oh, and hey all.

Yeah, I didn't really mean to get into a big discussion anyway because those never turn out well for me. That's the very reason why I am too scared to venture into the RWD....people seem less nice there for some reason. So I'll just agree to disagree.

Anyway, I'm going to bed now...or maybe I'll just fall asleep at my computer, whichever comes first.

"No power in the 'verse can stop me!"

Hello everyone!! I just glanced at the posts above me and I love and adore each and every one of you!!

Just popped in to say that I might not be about too much in the near future - as I am going to that place known as 'the parents place' for at least 3 weeks... Doom... Doom...

I do miss you all when I can't get on...

(Oh - and MsG - I just found out that Oliver and Jamie Phelps & Matthew Lewis are coming to D*C so you have to come along now!!! )

Love and hugs to all my little sisters, bestest online friends, my Jailbait and my little-brothers-of-assorted-nationality...
