I get to go and eat Chinese food at 11:00 today. Nothing like Moo Goo Gai Pan and crab rangoons two hours after you wake up.

My sister adopted a little girl from China and some chinese buffet restaurant holds a private luncheon for those people to celebrate the Chinese New Year. I have actually been craving some for a few days now so this should be good.

Back with my stomach full, for now (it is Chinese food ya know). They even had a lion dance there, which was interesting to see considering the 10 foot ceiling and 120 or so people in a moderate sized restaurant.

I'm into Mexican food myself. But I can not take the hot sauce anymore. My internal organs complain, so I have stepped down to a slightly moderate sauce. We have a fast food resturant that makes a mean burrito. They really pack in. It is a meal all by itself.

Hi, Watercooler folks.. I don't usually drop in, although sometimes I lurk but all the talk of food made me feel like posting.

I've never seen a Dragon dance Redlava.. I'll bet that was cool.

I am off to eat Chinese this evening at our local family Chinese restaurant with my husband and sundry kids ( all grown, those who can will join us, so it's fun! ). Crab rangoons are my favorite and Soo Chicken.

Our Mexican restaurant is good too Traveler.. best enchiladas in the world and I'm with you on the hot sauce.. have had to tone it down since aging a bit. ( drat! )

Ok, now I'm hungry.

I love Mexican food, and Italian, and Japanese... well I could go on. But I loves me some hot stuff. Especially hot wings. If you take a deep breath and it burns your nostrils, perfect.

That sounds good for dinner, there is a shop up the street called Wing Stop I have been wanting to try, and I haven't found any place to get good wings since I moved to Omaha. Maybe I'll get lucky.

You were busy trying to get yourself lit on fire. It happens.

Penguin - Nice pics.

As far as food goes: I haven't tried sushi (and have no desire to), or any seafood besides catfish, salmon, and fish sticks. Really spicy foods make me sweat, and they take away from the overall flavor, in my opinion. But, I really like Chinease take-out, and fake Mexican food (Taco Bell, etc.), and barbeque, and all fruits, and most vegetables (mushrooms and asparagus are no-nos). Milk is icky, except with cereal or flavoring, or when it's in ice cream. And things like pizza (especially with pineapple and ham) and mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese and spaghetti and meatballs are good, too.

Unfortunately, ovens scare me - it's hot, and I don't want to get burned (again)!

I should go now, though I will say one last thing - coughing hurts my head.

I also have no desire to eat sushi. I can barely eat fish when it's cooked, never mind if it's raw.

I also won't eat anything flavoured blackcurrant. I love the fruit but if it's blackcurrant flavoured it makes me want to puke

Chipotle? Sounds like Chipotle to me. I adore that place.
I like sushi. I don't much like fish but it's somehow different when it's sushi. Also, to correct a common misconception, not all sushi is raw. And I like spicy food but not hot food. Does that make sense? Spicy food has flavor, hot foods just make my mouth burn and I can't taste anything.
I like a lot of foods. Might be why I actually have to work if I want to keep my waistline down.

Ahh, a thread about food - my favourite subject

I like Tex Mex, Indian, Chinese, Thai, Italian and Greek food. That being said, I'm not a fan of ultra spicy stuff. I prefer food with lots of veg and exotic flavours. It means my taste in each is a little limited at times, but I love the food all the same!

Penguin, that little cat avatar is so cute!

Happy Chinese New Year all. It's a pig year. Which is handy since both Nathan and Alan are pigs!

Yeah, that's what I mean. Spicy, but not overly hot. That's the kind of stuff I like.

I quite like some sushi, but I go for the fairly plain stuff. I'm not a fan of squid - too rubbery for me. I actually love that horseradish sauce they serve with it - wasabi? Something like that? I adore that.

I'm a fan of mustard too. One of my favourite things to eat is what is known in Ireland as a ploughman's lunch. Brown bread - especially soda bread, with a little butter topped with slices of cheese - I always use white cheddar. Add a bit of mustard to the cheese and a mug of milky tea to drink with it and mmmm.... now I'm hungry!

It's the simplest of simple things to eat, but I love it. I've loved it since I was a kid.

Wasabi is the hot stuff, yeah. I don't know why it's referred to as a horseradish sauce, because they're not at all the same, but that's the stuff.
And squid is gross. Can't stand that stuff.
My favorites are the Unagi (eel; cooked) and the crab (also cooked) and the salmon (not cooked) Soooooo tasty.
Of course you have to be careful of what you eat and where, because the raw fish can have some icky stuff in it if it hasn't been raised or handled properly, but that's a totally different thing.

Honestly? I've never gone out for sushi. I buy sushi meals at the supermarket! Usually every now and then when I feel like a different lunch from the usual sandwich kind. All the other stuff on my list I've eaten at a genuine Chinese / Greek / Thai / whatever establishment, but not sushi. Since my taste is so limited with it I don't see the point.

Hello PhoenixRose:

The rest in Milwaukee is called Qdoba.
They may be related. Some fast food places take on different names as they expand to other regions.

They make a burrito with mixed grilled vegetables and your choice of meat. Comes with rice as well. Then I add sour cream. I never get tired of it.

Amen brother. One time I dared the cooks at the little diner right off of GT campus to hurt me with the wing sauce. They came close, but I managed to finish off all of them and not feel bad, even when it was time for them to leave.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horseradish : Additionally, since real wasabi is very expensive, even in Japan, most Japanese restaurants around the world actually serve a horseradish mixture that has been dyed green. In fact, the Japanese botanical name for horseradish is seiyōwasabi (セイヨウワサビ, seiyōwasabi?), or "Western wasabi".

I have never had Qdoba or Chipotle, though they have them both in Atlanta.

I am not sure where the food stuff got started (I missed a couple of threads that I have yet to [and probably won't get to] go back to), but here are some of my favs:

sushi - If I could afford to I would eat nothing but this. Favorites include ikura (salmon roe), ama-ebi (sweet shrimp), otoro (fatty tuna), and unagi (grilled eel), though there hasn't been one that I have tried (non-vegetarian) that I haven't liked.
pizza/calzones are best with ground beef, black olives, and mushrooms.
chinese - general tso or sesame chicken, and hot & sour soup, if it is any kind of decent
sandwich - hands-down fav is a pastrami reuben, with sauerkraut, horseradish mustard, swiss (the only time ever that I like swiss cheese), and marbled rye. you can keep the russian/1000 island.
wings - spicy is good, though I agree with Rose about spicy taste vs. raw heat (in BTUs). I like teriyaki and lemon pepper too.

I think I will stop writing about food and go have my cup of instant oatmeal...*sigh*

Once your miracle gets here and you can afford to eat sushi every meal, don't.

There was a band (Filter maybe?) where the lead singer was feeling run down on tour. Seems that once their album turned into a hit and they had some coin they were eating sushi every day on that tour. And then the mercury poisoning started....

I love me some sushi. I love me some seafood. But moderation in all things. Of course, moderation in the pollution that led to the levels of mercury in our fish would have been nice too.

I'm doing a happy dance because it didn't take me long to catch up on the thread from the weekend. Yeehaw!

Let's see: Hi all! Happy Birthday Odds. RIMG, missed you around here. And a very merry Monday to the rest....

Did someone mention burritos? I LOVE me some burritos. Might just be my favorite meal. I had a roommate that used to make these crazy ole burritos on his night to cook (there were five of us, we each had to cook a meal for the rest one night a week...it was awesome). They were so goooooood, burrito night was always my favorite. Sadly, not all the roomies thought so, and all hell broke loose.

We've got little hole in the wall Mexican places all over CA. Authentic Mexican food...not the Tex Mex or Americanized versions you get at most places (those are good too, but not really Mexican food). OMG, the burritos are sooooooo wonderful. And HUGE. I get a "small" and still can barely finish them. Carne Asada, Pollo Asada, Carnitas, Vegetarian, I don't care, they're all good.

ARRGGHH! How could you Rugbug. I'm soooo hungry.

Good morning everyone. I tried replying to the Ghost Rider question last week but FFF was having "issues".

Valentines Day there is a Who Cares show in Reno, the 15th, is the GR movie opening, the 17th is GND's birthday, I gotta drive Baby Sis to a Three Days Grace show the 17th, goin' for a long drive with GND and her family for a wilderness birthday outting, and I debut the shoot houses to the team on Sunday. All manner of fun better ensue (and hopefully some cash flow) this week. If it don't then I am seriously doin' something wrong.

Last week I got the chance to lay the mack down on the hot girl in the team. Then I found out she's kinda tryin' to work things out with her boyfriend. Oh well. At least I got my flirt on. And there ain't a gorram thing to stop me in the future.

Back to work.

NV- hey flirting is always good.

Sorry it's crazy here with two classes combined. We're doing logic problems which covers the eliminate information that isn't needed curriculum for my math class, and covers deductive reasoning for his English..and work completion and appropriate behavior for my behavior skills:)

Mmm... flirting... the up-side to not having a Valentine's for Valentine's day. Suddenly, there are loads of potential Valentine's about!

And since I'm on a Valentine's Day buzz this year (not having a boyfriend means lots of time on my hands!) Happy Valentine's Day to all the boardies!!!

NV- we have got to get you a woman...I would totally volunteer except for that pesky married thing

oooh that's a good ponder. What's your favorite Valentine's day memory and/or what's your Valentine's tradition

MisterG and I always get our comfy clothes ( sweats for me and jeans for him ) on and order take out and watch a movie. We take turns with who picks the meal and who picks the movie:) Last year it was Chinese food and Alien V Predator...sadly this year is MisterG's movie pick so I am guessing there will be less bloodshed and more light comedy..oh well I'm picking food and it's steaks:)

My favorite memory is the Valentine's day where I had broken up with my boyfriend and I came downstairs to find a beautiful velvet jewelry box on my breakfast plate. My dad had gone out and bought me a pair of sterling silver knot earrings:) I love my dad!

Uh...Uh..Uh!

MSG there is a Mango BBQ Sauce that I have that is utterly heaven on steaks! (I will have to look up the Company name) Let it marinade over night in the sauce and grill it up to desired bloodyness! OMG it is the absolute best! Laurelin even concurs on this one and she is not a BBQ Sauce fan!

Favorite Foods and Valentine's Day. Why do I have this sudden feeling that any second now the word "Chocolate" will enter the dialog?
