Ah, damn. I got lasties again. Curses to me for opening a reply box and then taking my own sweet time to write anything. Well, taking my own sweet time and you know, doing some work. ;)

I used to have a hit the penguin site bookmarked. I loved smacking that sucker and seeing how far I could make him fly...and slide on his belly if I got him real good. Brought a smile to my face.

But don't worry, no real penguins were hurt in the filming of this....ah, whatever. ;)

See what happens. Go and get some work done then a new thread pops up and we've got kitties and penguins flying about.

I appreciate eveyone on the board so much. Thanks guys. I was able to complete the day and make some apologies to those I love for being so non responsive yesterday.

As for reinventing myself, I can't see a way to really do that. Something tells me that my standing in the community is important enough that my persona must be maintained. It just gets difficult from time to time. I do hate the lack of options, but if my tired ass would just leave town and go hunting I might have a little less bitching to do.

Okay, back to work.

(And I kept reading "finding new and edible people" for some reason Rugbug.)

Upon looking back on the thread I see that MSG gets to see the GR movie. It'll be a few days for me as I'm tryin' to enjoy it with a group of friends and family. I can already say I'm deeply disappointed with Nick Cages involvement with the flick. I'm sure a butt load of folks are waiting for the DVD release to even bother just based on the trailers I've seen. I've made that mistake before and hope to never do it again.

Nick Cage is the killer man. I was so excited about it before that. I mean Nick Cage? WTH?! He was so mad that he wasn't chosen to be Superman that he has to wreck this movie too?????

This rates up there with Heath Ledger (or however you spell his name) playing the Joker in The Dark Knight! If they were with going the "hey lets find a crappy actor and see if he can surprise people" route they could have found someone at least a little better. Like, (and I can't believ I am saying this) Ashton Kutcher. Yeah I know he sucks but there was a ripple scene in That 70 Show where he was laughing because he was going crazy from the pot that just screamed Joker Laugh! At least he could pull off the insane laugh. That and he is built physically for it (or wimpily) It would still wreck the movie but what can you do???

BAsically I'm going in with the expectation that there will be some lovely special effects, nifty explosions, and possibly some acting too ( of what kind or quality I don't have any real opinion) I think Nick Cage is fine if you're doing light comedy ...mainly I'm just hoping for some wicked deaths and major explosions, plus Peter Fonda complimenting h is bike looks fun ( so see there will be someone acting if only for a moment)

Well folks I am out for the day and off to shop, gym, and get ready to go out for Chinese and a movie wearing clothes that in no way make the statement I teach school ( sorry just really sick of wearing somewhat, well for me anyway, conservative clothes and looking forward to eye-popping clothes that usually sit at the back of my closet during the week)

Okay, going with an unpopular opinion here...I like Nicolas Cage. And the ads for Ghostrider have seemed intriguing...it's not a a movie I would normally see, but I may just rent it. I have no history with the character, so no pre-conceived notions, which may be coloring my opinion.

I loved Nic Cage in Bringing Out the Dead. He was great in Leaving Las Vegas. And let's not forget to mention Raising Arizona.

Maybe, maybe.

But I also liked Windtalkers, The Family Man and even Capt Corelli's Mandolin (book was about 9000 times better, though). I'm not too hard to please when it comes to movies, though. Entertain/distract me for two hours and I'm a happy camper.

See ya later MSG. Thanks again for the help. Hugs.

K, I hate to say it, but Nick Cage could pull it off as long as his range can change. He needs to have the cocky don't give a F attitude that he is so well known for. But if he can pull out the confusion between humanity and animalistic anger/rage much the way he did in 8MM, it might work. But looking at the time of the movie and the material released in the trailers it seems there is no way for that to happen.

For those of you who'd seen 8MM, I wanna say it has to be one of the best and worst movies Nick Cage has been in. After seeing directly some of the effects of human trafficing I can sympethize with the amount of preperation such a part took. But it never seems to happen that way in the real world.

Sometimes I have a daymare. Some image or stimulus creeps its way into idle thought and really F's my day somethin' fierce. So I go home and make sure the kids are safe, make sure the heaters are off and the woodstove door is closed, check outside everytime the dogs bark, sleep only when someone else is awake, making sure my weapons are clean and secure... and the list goes on.

Is it enough that we can't be omniscent. Why does our brain need to mess with us so? I know most humans are wired this way, but I just can't stand it sometimes. My best friends grandpa worked in the California State Prison system for thirty years. Though he is senile and says very little, he still walks the house making sure the place is secure and his family is safe. For some reason that is a vey scary thought for me.

Sorry to ramble on folks. I heard some co workers counseling each other and ther is so much crap I choose not to say seein' as this is not the appropriate place.

Gotta say I'm not the least bit interested in seeing that movie. I mean to me Nick Cage is not a super hero. He's just too wussy and old looking.

Then top that off with ghost rider seeming like a crazy character to begin with. I mean I just don't see me ever getting into that character.

Dear Marvel, please enslave the spiderman writers and produce those films back to back to back. Thanks. Sincerely, Me.

I don't blame ya. It ain't an easy character to grasp for alota folks. Much like the Punisher, GR is the part of man that few risk ever trying to harness. And to see that part of a man engulfed in the rage and anger of what can't be changed is intruiging. Most sane people would never venture into the part of their being that would allow them to act upon those impulses. But then again most people would never dodge bullets, run into a burning building, or lift a car for fun. It is usually out of neccessity when people do.

Seriousness aside, I'm with Rugbug. I want to be entertained. It just sucks that some of the material presented is close to my heart.

I'm sure the ads for Ghostrider are scenes that would appeal to the masses. You can't get complex and dark and still draw the numbers you're hoping for. That ads have appealed to me...but I hope there is more to it than what they've shown.

Okay enough of that...I just finished prepping for the clinic I'm teaching at the barn. I thought I gave up teaching? Three days of lesson planning and a twenty page handout later and I don't feel like I've given anything up. I'm hoping the participants really enjoy themselves: Lots of info to take home and lots of fun activities to help make the learning practical.

And with that, I'm out for the weekend. I hope all the imponderable water cooler folks have a grand ole time!

Now, I was actually intriqued when I saw the GR trailers. Then again, I had never heard of the comic books, so I had nothing to base my opinion on. I'm usually totally oblivious to comic book characters. I love the comic book movies (spiderman, punisher, v for vendetta, x-men, daredevil, ect.) but hate comic books with a passion (haven't even seen the serenity ones, and have no desire to). The sort of Faustian aspect is interesting though. Probably something I'd rent instead of going to see in the theatre.

Entertainment is all well and good, but I like my movies to have substance and not cater to the status quo.

WHITEFALL

Well folks, it's been a crazy week. Godspell auditions are done, and we got the cast list, and our fundraiser (horrendously organized and overly stressful, but ironically followed by a kick-ass dance) dinner theater done tonight.....

First, I'd like to ask the more seasoned folk, do you all know a dance to "Don't Break My heart, achy breaky heart", the song? It was sooo cool, when all us thespians were dancing, and then this song comes on and ALL the adults suddenly burst into this cool dance. Sorta a forward-back, slide left-right, pivot to the left, and repeat it all... craziness.

And Godspell... remember how i said the bestest guy to be jesus ever wasnt auditioning? well, he did. and he got jesus. and i dont mind. it's strange, i really dont. the guy, he sings, dances, plays like 15 different instruments (not exagerating), and though a bit aloof, he's a great guy. he's like highlander: there can be only one. so i got me a apostle role, and basically there are no other leads in this show besides the big J man, which is good cause more people get to sing n' stuff. So.... i'm happy with it. a certain guy who.. well, brings a lot of hostility to a set, wasnt cast, and another guy who... well, he's a pain, though he's a nice guy... he always gets the best part (unless Jesus man is there) and also he was on ASB when they rejected Firefly Club (their letter was kinda rude, too, lol).... blah, well i'm happy he isnt judas. He doesnt need that going to his head.

WOW I'M A PETTY TEENAGER............... sorry.

life goes on. it'll work out. visitiing UCLA and Riverside next week... its february break.

on the whole, life aint that bad.

I'm so glad you're all still cooling by the cooler.

Hobbleit, so how's it going with the notes on the Russian Revolution? It's good to know that you had a little time to just sit around for awhile.

Whitefall, the "Achy Breaky Heart" came out at the height of county western line dancing. Yes, most everyone of that age group probably does know it (or atleast have heard of it). Your description did give me a chuckle. All of the kids dancing, and then when it came on all of the parents head for the dance floor.
Congratulations on getting a part in Godspell.

WHITEFALL

Ok folks, I've got something new to ponder for myself........

Remember a month ago, that whacky thing with the lighting designer? Well that sorta tapered off.... and i dont know what to say about that. But remember the Mutual Friend who brought it up? I have to talk about this to someone...

Well, said mutual friend (also happens to be mighty presidenta of our thespian club), over the past few months she and i have gotten to know each other better through chatting online, probably because oddly enough we dont find much to talk about in person.

well, there was a thespian club thing today at her house, it was supposed to be about our club entering this karoake contest, it sorta collapsed into playing the Life board game.... always good. and mutual friend/presidenta whatever i am calling her, she mentioned how with the godspell and fundraiser stuff she has seen all of us nonstop for days and days... and i mentioned what i have quoted here, basically that alone-ness sucks....

and then i get home, two hours later she messages me, having decided that alone time sucks. and she complemented me. and though she is as confused as i am about relations and people, she... well i'm not stupid, it was the AP English/we're-both-anti-dating way of saying we should see more of each other.

I'm in over my head with this... and nicely enough, she is aware that i'm going to be in LA for the second half of the week, i wont see her till saturday, and i dont know what i'm doing.

lol this is a mess: it doesnt help that if she does have feelings for me or somesuch... to be honest i dont understand what women see in us guys. we're, or i'm kinda not a pretty sight exactly, and... oh nvm... this is a mess, lol, i have a terrible opinion of myself in some ways, and she has a bad opinion of herself in some ways too. this'll be interesting.

Sorry for diary-ing here, but you guys are my best chance at some wise n eclectic and roughly consequence-free advice.

well, self-pity, uh, loathing, isn't the most positive of start-points, maybe it's best just to accept that she sees something worth seeing in you, rather then worrying over what that is (hey, could even be the fact that you worry over things like that that she sees in you, in which case, disregard what i said, except you'd already have to have disregarded it to have worked that out, so it's really a bit of a catch 22, but i still think my ways best )

so yeah, there's obviously something there, and if you try to work out what it is and play up to it, you'll more then likely get it wrong (i always did) and then risk loosing whatever she likes in you. so, we're operating a no-self-pity-past-this-line(_____)-policy here, 'kay?

right then, obviously she likes you, you said you've been spending alot of time together, presumably because you enjoy her company as well, and there's nothing wrong with spending a little more time in each others company, and from there you can work out (in a tortured, we're-not-working-anything-out-honest, anti-dating kind of way) whether you both feel closer then just friends.

not sure i get where all the angst comes from in honesty mate, unless you're worried that because you don't fancy the absolute pants of her you'd be doing her a disservice. if so, I'd just say that sometimes, a much stronger relationship can grow out of a friendship that developed then out of a crush that came to pass.

if it's the loosing a friendship aspect, well, i've lost at least one due to an ill-advised relationship (ill-advised because we rushed into it and, er, it was behind her boyfriends back ) but that was ill-advised, this sounds like you're both taking things slowly and step-by-step, so i think you'll have plenty of opportunity to work out whether it's likely to be worth a chance or not ^^

i can't think of much else to add, except that maybe i'll change my name to odds-bods-kins...

This is a lie.

As for the rest of it... My best most sage advice that you probably won't be able to follow is this: Do not worry about it. Spend time with her and try not to think too much about what it 'might mean'. Don't worry about what it might mean, just enjoy yourself. If it goes somewhere romantic, don't fight it. If it doesn't, don't worry about it and don't force it.
Be honest. I guess that's the grand sum of it.
I have found relating to people is a whole lot easier when I don't worry about relating to them and am just honest with everyone involved, including myself. I used to hate the phrase "Just be yourself and everything will be fine" because the way it's often said is to mean "Be yourself and lots of people will like you". That's not true. However, "Be yourself and you will find those people who truly like you" is true. It's just easier that way, believe me.

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

WHITEFALL

To quote Rose on many occassions... i should be asleep. And i will soon.

anyhoos..........

Lol, odds, thanks. probably a good idea, about drawing the self-pity line.

And Rose. Thank you. Just... Thanks. And on a seperate note, i never really understood what people meant about honesty in a relationship till now, i think. Or i understand it better now.

Lemme say this, i believe in honesty, or some combination of honesty and bluntness that basically amounts to "JUST SAY WHAT YOU MEAN, DAMNIT", though i dont always follow through with that. And it's funny, i always thought in the abstract sense that stronger relationships were born from friendship than crushes, and yet in the past few weeks i've been confronted with... a lot of weirdness pertaining to that subject. And now I'm beginning to make sense of it, that whatever she may or may not feel, or if she's just lonely, the point that she turned to me means that something in me is goin' right, so the last thing i should do is analyze the heck out of it.

I think that's it. thats the issue. throughout my life i've never tried to force a relationship where there wasnt one, though whether that was based on timidity, disinterest, or respect i cant say.... and now in the past few weeks the question of forcing a relationship seems to be poping up everywhere. on the one hand, that's how things are started. on the other hand...... it's not who we are.

Confusing. Deep, but confusing.

Thanks Odds, and Rose.

Off to bed.

Operative: "Its worse than you know..." Mal: "It usually is."

I think, you are "over thinking" this,....just go with it and be open. So what if it doesn't work out, at least you tried and now you know. There won't be hours of wishing that you had done this different. You could end up with a very special friend, ....or more.

I'm old, so listen to me.(please?)

Good Luck!!
