YINYANG

You were busy trying to get yourself lit on fire. It happens.

Apologies for the length.

Regional attractiveness - I know that's not true for myself, in part because I live in sort of a city-town: big enough that I don't know everyone, but where all of one of my friend's siblings knows myself and my other friend's siblings (his brother knows, and is friends with, my sister, etc.). We have country kids and mountain kids and Denver-ites and preps (who almost always seem kind of questionable to me no matter what they wear) and college kids, and so on. People either have their hair dyed, wear a ridiculous amount of make-up (which is to say that they wear noticable make-up and I can name it - eyeliner, mascara, blush, foundation especially) wear dresses and jeans (pick one already!), or commit other clothing weirdities.

I am, of course, in a (fairly liberal) high school environment, so everything seems to be over-the-top, and people trying to be fashionable irk me, but... if they're not skanks, they're in sweats and t-shirts and tennis shoes (with only a few exceptions). Eh.

So, I don't think there's necessarily universal merit in the regionality and attractiveness of people, because some places are confusing (shorts in the winter time, for example), but there are certain styles that can be common to regions that do or do not appeal to an individual.

Moving on...

Snopes is awesome. Thanks, RugBug.

I've yet to meet anyone who doesn't like redheads. They tend to be creepily interested, and I had traumatic experiences in public when I was younger.

---

Scene 1:

Random couple walks up to talk to parents and I. "Where'd you get your red hair?"

Me: Uh... <.< >.> ::hide behind parents::

Parents talk until weird people leave.

Scene 2:

Different place, same basic premise - Person/ people (usually older) walk up. "Oh, what pretty hair!"

Me: ::hid when they arrived, don't want them to get near::

---

I was always afraid they were going to touch my hair (I didn't - don't - like it when my relatives did/do). Now that I'm a troublesome teen, of course, nobody wants to come up to me in random social settings (afraid that I might steal from them, or something). It's nice.

Red heads are way outside of the norm. I think true red-heads make up about 6% of the U.S. population so everyone is drawn to them...plus it's such a lovely color.

NV- I usually go with, well if she doesn't want you back, we'll work something else out. ( however it does suck big time and there's really no good answer to it) We do a kind of training seminar here for the new teachers so they don't say stupid stuff like " of course your parents love you." and " Where's your dad/mom" Since so many of our kids are fosters, living with relatives, or taken in my kind neighbors.

Yinyang, it only gets worse. Sorry. You are right. People can be creepily interested in your hair.

You must become zen about it. Hell, I'm 39 years old (D'oh!) and I'm still working on this one.

Smile, nod, move away.

Anyone with really big boobs, or an amazing figure can relate. You wonder "Did that person even notice my personality?"

Hey guys, just stopping in to say hi, I can't stay for very long. I have discovered something that is more mind-numbing than my math class, driver's ed. I'm thinking I'll just buy a good bike and not have to actually drive...

Yingyang, I know how you feel. I don't have red hair, but when I was little, my hair was really long and people were always wanting to touch it. I hated it! I mean they have hair of their own, why do they need to be touching mine?

And yes, in my school we get the people who try WAY too hard to look like they're a fashion model in high school. I personally have to wonder how they can manage to put on two gallons of makeup before school, especially since I personally don't even wear makeup. We get the rather bizarre outfits too though, like people who wear skirts on top of jeans and pajamas to school, and just things that I wouldn't even think of putting together. I think that what someone finds attractive varies too, so it's hard to put a label on it...

Eek. Why do kids know how to get to the heart of the matter with one sentence? They can just rip through all the crap and lay it all out there, a bleeding mess of yuck. But you know, it's really the only way to clean up the whole matter and begin repairing it.

Be proud that the kid trusted you enough to ask you that. They won't do that with everyone. Anything I could say to tell him would probably sound a bit trite, I'm sure you handled the situation with aplomb. If I were in your place, it would probably go something like this: I can't tell the future, but I know some things...that he's a strong kid who has made it through a lot, that whatever may come his way, he can survive it and that there are people that care about him and his future.

hehe I have red hair too. Though my mom told me how I always answered that question. I just stared them dead in the eyes and said "God" like they had an obvious mental problem if they didn't know that already. She said it always stopped them dead in their tracks and made them pause for a while to figure out how to respond to that.

But seriously what else did they want me to say? My obviously redheaded mom standing next to me maybe? The mailman? What?

As for the make-up thing. I actually run a mini class in the after school program teaching girls to do make-up well:)

Well I must be going now. Have a great day everyone!

Hmmm, now I'm not so disapointed that the dye wouldn't take. I tried to become an artificial redhead several times, but my hair is so dark that all I got was a lighter shade of brown with redish highlights. I can relate with the "everyone wants to touch my hair" thing, a few years back I had thigh length hair, and everyone seemed to want to touch it, although I guess the fact that I was constantly sitting on the end of my braid was a small deterent.

As for the skirt over pants thing, I recently asked a friend why she was doing it and she claimed it was a way to stay warmer as she walked around on campus. The knee-length skirt would trap some heat and work as a wind-breaker (her words, not mine) so that she wasn't as cold. She knew it looked weird, but she was warm and didn't care.

It's as if none of them ever had high school biology, much less would have been able to pass - although neither of my parents are redheads, so I suppose they have a right to be marginally confused.

MsG: I think the actual number of natural redheads in the world is closer to 2% of the female population. There really should be a study, though, into why exactly more men than not would rather have a redhead.

Truth be told, I wouldn't mind a redhead myself. One with blue eyes. Gots to haves me blue eyes.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Okay, so I missed everything and a half by being internet lazy last night (but I got my room, er, sorta cleaned up)
So... Jimi bear, of course she messed up. Don't you let her admitting she messed up make you mess up. It doesn't necessarily mean she's gonna stop jerking you around.
Regional attractiveness... I dunno, really. I always preferred stylish as opposed to fashionable, and to me that means wearing what actually looks good on you. The same fashion isn't going to look good on the same people.
Yinyang, I laughed SO hard at your description of Fort Collins because it's SO true! (what is up with a dress over jeans, anyway? And how those girls can wear shorts in winter without shivering is beyond me. You know, I always considered them to be a little skanky now that I think of it)
Red hair... I used to find it very attractive. The dark red hair, in particular. I chased a couple redheads, got burned very badly, and decided that hair color was probably not the best thing to chase. I tried to avoid having a physical 'type' at all, actually. That's worked out a little better for me. Now I just fall for geeks
My mom used to put henna in her hair and it turned a very nice shade of red. She said she was amazed at how differently people reacted to her. She said I should dye my hair so people would know I was fiery and uppity right off the bat. I thought that was funny. Oddly enough, though, if wigs are anything to go by, red hair doesn't suit my skin tone. And dye is a pain. Oh well; people figure it out eventually.
At least, when they're not too busy staring at my chest XD
And supposedly according to my personality, my eyes should be green. So if my outside matched my inside I would be a green-eyed redhead. Figures, doesn't it? Mayhaps I should try photoshopping that.
Whitefall my sweet, stop overthinking it. I know you think high school relationships have to be about just badly wanting to get laid, but they don't. Just like relationships after high school don't have to be about badly wanting to get laid, though many of them are. If you enjoy spending time together and want to spend more time together, then spend time together. If you want to do some cuddling and find it comforting/soothing/pleasant, do that. If you don't, then don't. Friendship and companionship are not to be disregarded. Since so many relationships are driven solely by hormones, I think it's excellent that you two, in high school, actually enjoy each other's company.
(I caught all the stuff you edited out. I am fastlikeafreak)

thank you rose, for your input. I edited it out cause i.... well, actually it was because i wasnt in the dark anymore in terms of having someone to talk to, namely la presidenta herself.

yeah, it was a rather cliche-ridden post, its jsut that we know people who... well, they've done that.... and..... well, it'll happen as it happens. it just bothered me, someone above mentioned that i didnt say how i felt about her, and that got me all confuzzled.

meh, nvm.

for Rose, cause i'm too lazy to find your huggle emote.

seems i missed the limited release unabridged version and only got a ghastly parody of the 'authors preferred text' with all the juicy stuff taken out, so i'll just answer this ^^

It is possible to acknowledge that you find certain physical feature's attractive without consigning yourself to never looking at anyone else. I certainly wouldn't see someone exclusively because they have red hair, nor would i not see someone exclusively because they don't. This doesn't stop me from realising that, when a redhead smile's at me *that* way, i go squeedgy at the knees and my sievelike memory becomes photographic. Why would i lie about that? Would it be differant if it was a particular slant to the cheekbones, or a look in the eye that had that effect? I'd still be looking for something deeper then that in a partner.

I could go with the ginger-hating if you like, but i doubt it'd sit any easier with your sensibilities, and i'd be lying

(and yes PR, if you still remember when i came in chatzy cheesing my ass off about a 'smile', that was a redhead)

Oh, Rose-doll, I have no intentions of letting it change how I feel about things, just an interesting end to a long weekend. The thought has crossed my mind about having the boys living with me again, but it is still so far from cusp and I have not even begun to grok it in fullness.

Also, the red-haired green-eyed on the inside makes a lot of sense in my mind. Just another reason you are high up in my Top People to meet at D*C list.

I was born with red hair. It eventually darkened to brown with red highlights. My beard has more red in it, though that seems to be changing these days. One of the gods seems to be using the "desaturate" tool a bit much.

That means a lot more grey than there used to be, to those of you who don't play in photoshop.

That being born with red hair thing did lead to one very stupid comment from my dad in the hospital. Which then led to his mom smacking him upside the head and telling him to shut up. Don't think I'm supposed to know about that.

Good morning water drinkers..

Mav - Since the only thing going by my window at 3 am is passing sirens..the deer sound so cool
Not the doggie barking part though..

PR - lovely pics.although you are lovely no matter what your hair/eye color is !

RIMG - just because..

As far as types go..I've always loved the dark eyed, dark hared, tall and brooding..(like Angel from Buffy )Husband is of that type. But as time goes on I find it is more the individual that catches my eye..Although I seem strangely drawn to Aquarians somehow..

A huge herd of deer IS a very amazing sight. They walk so softly, despite there being about 150 of them, I was surprised Rocky heard them. My house backs to a large stretch of park land where the deer live. For being so close to DC, there are still large tracts of undeveloped land around here.

My type is definitely big, tall blondes. Big ol' Vikings. Husband looks like a cross between Troy Aikman and Val Kilmer. And Tidbit is his spitting image.
