I guess i'm the new guy on the block, so I'll introduce myself and share some thoughts.

I'm a 20 y/o college student who lives in VA. I was introduced to FF/Serenity not too long ago actually. I just broke up with my g/f of 3 years and with all this newfound free time on my hands I had to do something. So my friend and I bought some Stargate SG-1 seasons, which is a great show btw. So we got home and was browsing through his dvd's, and lo and behold I found the holy grail, "whats this" i ask...."only the greatest show ever" he says. So i watched the entire season....literally back to back. Went out and ordered it and serenity the next day off amazon and I've been hooked ever since.

Done a little research lately and thought I would share my thoughts and opinions.

-Most seem to believe that the chances for anything else involving FF is not going to happen (another series, trilogy for the movies, etc) but I believe its entirely possible. You guys are the reason for serenity, and that took 3 years to get. So imo any of these is possible for a few reasons.
1) Interest in the series is constantly on the rise, I've never met anyone who has watched the season and not liked it....literally noone. Fans aren't forgetting about this, only more coming in.
2)A new mmo is confirmed, if a good game developer picks this up, its got potential to be the next World of Warcraft (original story, great characters, everything that makes an rpg good). If firefly gets something as big as this, then the whole world will know about it.
3)With numbers increasing change happens. I mean look at the serenity #1 movie poll. You guys played a HUGE part in that. Which caused sales to skyrocket on amazon, which means that people see the movie and like it, so they get the season on dvd. Which increases those sales, they become huge fans, and join the ranks as well. People notice these polls, and yeah there are people that hate on it. But for every person that has something bad to say, it peaks the interest of 5 other people that end up going out and buying the dvd and movie.
4)On most things that I've read the only people that hate the movie are fans of other sci-fi's....star wars, star trek, other shows/movies with star in their name. But I've seen VERY few people hate on the series. There is pretty much a consensus that this series was amazing and no one is willing to argue against it because its so good.

Joss whedon has admitted that this is his favorite thing he's worked on and that he poured his heart and soul into the series. I can see why he wouldn't want to do another season, he thinks it wont be the same and wont have that same allure.

Here's the only problem I see.....people have seen this season and movie for 4 years, and have grown to love each and every one of these characters. Switching the characters up would be REALLY weird, and offputting for a lot of fans. I mean noone is gonna have the charisma that nathan does for mal and you can't replace jayne or any of the others for that matter. All of the actors are doing other things, inora on stargate, mal on drive, etc. I'm sure if drive bombs though, then the rest of the cast (thats alive in the story) could be convinced to come back for another season.

I'm sure I've just pointed out stuff you guys already know. But I'd love it if you guys would point out any bad information that I've given, I'm here to learn. If there are any of my opinions that have already been answered then PLEASE give that info too. Much appreciated, and sorry for the long post

I believe in the possibility of BDM2. Though without Wash and Book and with River moderately sane I am not sure how that would go. Maybe a prequel? Fill in on all that fun shennanigans inbetween series and movie. But prequels, genrally speaking, suck.

Maybe a cut to a number of years later and some more unrest in the 'verse? Crumbling Alliance authority? Hostile takeover of Bluesun? Bluesun hostile takeover of well everything they don't currently have (ie elimination of freewill)? That is a frequent response to slipping grasp of power: to exert absolute control to quell objections and to retain power.

I think a Series 2 may be more than wishful thinking for legal and people-doing-other-stuff-now reasons.

Though you are right, pretty much everyone that has seen the series loves it (one person I know didn't because they saw serenity first and couldn't work out why River didn't just kick people's butts -- had to explain TV series was before the movie, River still very much crazy in TV series.)

Howdy Spoon, welcome. One thing that Joss does really well is throw curve balls w/ stories and characters that work. The 'verse has so many possibilities that almost any kind of story could be told. I'm pretty sure the cast would be up for any of these new stories. It's been mentioned that Wash and Book could still be around as flashbacks or a prequel (though, those are kind of iffy if not done right). With the right casting Books' tale(past)could be fun. It would be a hard adjustment if none of the original cast was involved and I really don't see that happening.

Hey spoon333. Welcome to the 'verse!

I agree with you on the series having a fighting chance, and I really hope it does come back some day. As for replacing the actors, as long as Joss is writing it I will be happy with whatever happens. Still, it's well known that the cast adored Firefly just as much as Joss did, so I'm fairly sure they'd jump at the chance to do it all again.

thanks guys.....and yeah i think if joss decides to do it then most of the cast will be jumping right back on. As long as they don't have any previous commitments and such. The captain would have a hard time with it if he's still the lead of Drive, but for the others it wouldn't be too hard I dont think.

But in all likelihood i think the prequel to the movie, which would cover the time between the end of the series and serenity is the most likely thing that they will do. Kinda iffy though, considering serenity didn't do so well in the box office, but sold so many dvd's. And how the majority of people agree that the series was better, and would do better than another movie. Oh well....if we make a big enough impact then we might just find out
