I can't completely hate him. If anyone here remembers The Invisible Man, he was Hobbes.

The people I hate are the couple in the sports car. Everyone's in it for themselves, but they seem to be the worst out of the bunch.

And I can't help it. Everytime I see Amy Acker, I see Fred. Oh well.

The show is really taking off. From the first scene, you really get sucked in. Between this and Heroes, Monday nights are gonna be pretty exciting.

Yea, to bad heroes doesn't come back for another week.

I didn't think they seemed so bad, its interesting how the girl is keeping stuff from the guy. I actually thought his CB radio move was one of the best parts of the first hour. I can't stand the prison guy. Anyone that says "Holmes" that much deserves to be shot.

I'm definitely looking forward to tomorrow night and I'll try to be around for the thread during the show instead of just after.

LOVED the Invisible Man. Another show that went away too quick. I think Drive is on at 7pm and Heroes is at 8 (I'm the the central zone) if that helps anyone. If that's not right--LETS HEAR IT FOR TI-VO!!

I can. Going out of his way to taunt... I'm just realizing I don't know the name of the character Nathan is playing. Anyway going out of gis way to taunt the captain. That's just not kind at all.

Besides Tim, Nathan, Amy, and Richard Brooks, the other Whedonverse connections so far:

- Beth Grant (the waitress at the diner) played Phantom Dennis' mom in the Angel ep "Rm w/a Vu"

- Patrick Fischler (the guy who bailed Wendy out, pretending to be her husband) was the conspiracy nut bookstore owner in the Angel ep "The Magic Bullet"

- Charles Martin Smith (Mr. Bright, the mysterious contact) directed the very first episode of Buffy, "Welcome to the Hellmouth".

- Zoic is doing the special effects.

And yeah, I'm really enjoying it so far. Hope tomorrow's is as good as the preview for it looked. Be very interested to see what the early ratings look like... *fingers crossed*

Well, I'm in Arizona, and I'm reading this thread DURING Drive, so there were some spoilers in here. I'm not sure how much I like this show. Nathan, of course, I love, and yeah, quite a few Firefly-like moments, but the show itself? Mmmmmmmm, not sure just yet. I'll give it a chance because, hey, I've got nothin' else to watch on Monday nights!

That's why TiVo is such a beautiful thing. And if you have too the Drive episodes will probably be online either at Fox.com or the Drivefans website on Myspace.

I think it was great. I usually know when I look at the clock and I get sad because there is only a few more minutes left. And I get impatient cause I have to wait another week to watch more. I get that feeling with Lost and I had that feeling with Firefly.

I don't know if she has made any appearances in the Jossverse but she was one of the main characters on ESPN's poker show Tilt.

As for the show it was better than I expected. Like many people here the main reason I gave it a look was because our Captain is the star. Really like the driving sequences, not ridiculously over the top like so many modern car chases, more of an old school feel. Now if they could throw in a few muscle cars from the '60s or '70s.

Edit: What's up with the cops on this show? All the crazy drivers and the only one they pull over is "Mrs. Meek" in her kiddie cruiser? I guess wreckless driving really isn't out of the ordinary in FL.

While watching I couldn't help but think of "The Long Walk" by Richard Bachman aka Stephen King. While the circumstances are a bit different both have a similar vibe.

The Highlight of the show for me... the momentary euphoria when I thought I heard... I thought I had Drive on, Hmm weird I must have left firefly playing on the DVD cuzz that damn sure sounded like Early talking to Mal. No, No Drive's on... weird... OH WHAT THE HELL IT'S JUBAL EARLY! How F'n weird is that. I love it! Sept it made me sad cuzz for a second I thought, wow, maybe this isn't going to be Drive, maybe that was a psyche out and they are bringing back firefly and this is like a working out the kinks dream sequence or something. Sad, I know... but that’s how much I miss Firefly...

Ok...the truck...what better for our captain to pilot that a run down, face-only-a-mother-could-love jalopy of a cargo hauler...remind you of a certain spaceship? Hitting the bad man in the face with a wrench. nice Tim.

But over all I find the show kind of muddled, .. Lost started something with this "all knowing all seeing" (yes i know omnipotent & omniscient) "company" that has all the power. The protagonists seem to have no control over their lives. I've seen it again in prisonbreak and now in Drive.

You know those assholes that care way too much about cars... well thats me. I LOVE CARS. The previews for tonights show feature a 1970 Dodge Hemi challenger. the R/T Hood tells me that it probably has the 383 engine. its an aftermarket paintjob...Dodge never offered a blue on black paint scheme in 70 ...the Challenger was offered from the years 1970-1974.. It was introduced by dodge to compete with the mustang in the "pony car" category... gas shortages proved to be the end of the high output engines in 1972... the lack of demand led to the demise of the model in 1974... R/T stands for Road & Track ... the moniker is the equivelent of Chevrolets SS which stands for super sport. Dodges sister company Plymouth had a car that the challenger "cloned" ...the Baracuda ...or Cuda'It A 1970 Challenger was featured in the 1971 film "Vanishing Point" and was remade in 1996 (I think) with Viggo Mortinsen in the lead role... It was also featured again in the new Tarantino film "Death Proof" in all three films it was a white 440 hemi R/T (HEMI refers to the "hemispherical Combustion chamber" all 8 cylinder chambers looked like upsidedown soup bowls) ...very nice. a car of that caliber would fetch arround 85k - 120k at auction today.

I ramble on like that to show my desire for stupid pieces of metal from detroit... even with the car draw and the Nathan draw and the Tim Minear draw...I'm not that hooked on the show...i will give it every chance in the world though... support our captain right.

"Smellin' alot of IF comin' offa' this plan!"

I really liked the show. I think it's gonna be great! Tully is a lot like Reynolds, and that's cool. Kristen Lehman, for those before that asked, had her best role (my opinion) in the Outer Limits episode called "Time To Time", where she was recruited by time travellers from the future. She goes back in time to 1969 to try to prevent her dad from being involved in an anti-war protest bombing. She is a great actress...those not convinced yet...you will be!

Hmmm... Just a thought, but in keeping with Joss & Tim's penchante (sp?) for double meaning:

A woman named Wiles... I'm thinking there's trouble there. There's a book (movie?) Corrina, Corrina. Anyone know the story? I don't but maybe significant?
Tully seems familiar as well, but can't place it.

Awesome. I kept expecting Tully to make a throwaway line about the last woman who stowed away on his ride.

And I kinda liked the brothers and the father/daughter team. They're racing for something other than the cashy money (though they don't know it yet).

Did anyone catch that his name in the show is Detective Ehrle? Sounds an awful lot like Jubel Early to me. Nice one Tim, if thats what you meant.

Of course he meant it ! An homage to Firefly !
I have a feeling that the F-network is going to be having their noses rubbed in their error for quite a while...Rightly So !

I really wasn't sure I was going to like this show, based on the previews. I knew I'd have to watch it because of Nathan, and hoped I'd like it, but I had my reservations. However, I found myself totally sucked in after a short time. The show has got a frenetic chaotic pace that's really quite intriguing.

I about choked when I heard Jubal Early talking -- for a second I thought I was hallucinating!

Anyway, looking forward to seeing the new episode tonight!

I was clear on why she was pulled over, what I don't quite get is why so many cops were deployed to take her down while several dozen acts of reckless driving are occuring on the same stretch of highway.

Your average traffic cop isn't burdened by an overabundance of schooling.

One of the cool things about the show is that there are so many people in the race it'd be easy for other members of the crew to come in as guest stars or small reoccuring roles. One set of racers I'm particularly interested in is the old couple on the motor cycle. They managed to pull off cute and badass at the same time. That wins a lot of cool points from where I'm sittin'.

I just love the fact that our Captain is still havin' ship.. er, uh "Vehicle" troubles. The man can't seem to get a decent ride anywhere in the Verse.

REGINAROADIE

I was lucky enough to see the two hour premiere on CTV on Friday night (which was good since Sunday night was the night my 301 class watched our final films. Went from 7 to 11:o30) so I decided to wait until everyone else saw the show until I posted.

Things I didn't like: The title credits were a bit unimaginary, I'm not too big a fan of the Google Earth transitions, and I didn't get how the new mommy was able to not be disqualified for not killing Taryn Manning.

Things I did like: Everything else. I liked the concept, the pacing and editing of the show made it a complete rush to watch, and the various characters got my attention. Nate was great and all, but my favorite car is the father/daughter combo. Dylan Baker (aka. Curt Connors from the SPIDER-MAN movies) is just a great character actor . And I think him and his daughter have the potential for a great storyline. Of him dying and trying to live life as much as he can and his spoiled teenage daughter seeing the change in her old man and her stepping up to the plate and changing. I didn't mind the thug and his rich brother storyline. Think that has potential as well.

And I like the darker, shorter, balder and more sinister Jeff Probst emcee. THAT is a memorable character.

With DRIVE, HEROES and 24, Monday night is now my fave TV night.

I believe that the man's words were something to the effect, that by the time they reached the next check point she had better not be in that car anymore. Didn't ever say anything about killing exactly.

Freakin' awesome show. Looking forward to tonight. Also, I don't know if it's been mentioned but that "Brad" guy is also from 'Angel'... he's a shopkeeper in season 4 during the whole Jasmine thing. I wonder if any other actors from Firefly and Angel will end up on this show, Tim Minear created it after-all, then again it probably won't last too long 'cause it's on F*X.

"Oh Buffy, I love you so much I almost forgot to brood!" - Wesley (pretending to be Angel)

WOW! I gotta say that I hadn't been amped about this show at all. I honestly forgot it was even coming on until I saw a little ad on AIM for it. I figured I'd just watch the first ep out of respect for Nathan's acting ability. I honestly thought the premise was stupid, but within the first 3 minutes of the show I was hooked. First Early as the detective, then seeing who I correctly thought was Amy Acker in the photo...That was it I was in for at least the rest of the ep.

Come to find out there were other little Fireflyesque quirks (the stalling of his truck, the wrench, even just certain looks that screamed "MAL") which made it all the better. Even putting all that asside the story seems interesting to me, and I'll definately keep watching. Goes to show you can't always judge a book by its cover. Anyway I'll be watching here on in, and yes I'll be crossing my fingers for other Jossverse actors/refrences.

Ditto. The only thing I would change is, "I knew I'd have to watch it because of Nathan and Tim." Otherwise - my feelings exactly. I knew I would watch, I wanted to watch, but I expected to hate it. I did hate it, too, for the first two minutes - and then I was IN.

However, I am a little confused about the truck driver - when he said he had something in the back that could help him out. What would he have done if Alex had taken him up on the offer? Killed him? Killed her? Let them off the hook? I totally love the whole taunting thing at the end, but the logistics of that one interaction still have me puzzled. If I'm meant to assume that somehow he knew how Alex would respond I can do that – but is there something I'm missing?

Don't make faces.

Yep, I'm hooked. Glad I put Drive on my NetFlix list as soon as I heard about it. Once again, Nathan does an outstanding job. His lines, expressions, and intensity really punch. I like the performances of everyone else on the show as well. I may not like the characters they play, but the performances really fit. Cool older motorcycle couple, too.
And the special effects. Did anyone else notice that the Corinna's mom was ejected out of the rear of their vehicle during the crash? How did they do that?
'nuff for now
