Not if by CAN act they meant "really badly". KR is fine for befuddled characters who are constantly overwhelmed by everything. Not in Wash's oeuvre.

Hmmm. How about Matthew Modine? He has a nice sarcastic riff and can be funny too.

Maybe Anthony Stewart Head (Giles) as Book? Or Brian Thompson, who played Luke in Buffy season 1.

I think some buffy players would be great. I consider Wash the 'Xander of Firefly' so Nick Brendon would be my pick for Wash. I agree that Anthony Stewart Head would 'make a good book' hehe. Perhaps if Joss were to show more of the alliance in the movie he could cast the actor who played Quinten Travers (head of the watchers guild...I cant remember the actors name) as the president or leader of the alliance. He has a 'big screen' presence.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I think we are totally united in our desire to see Alan and Ron back in their respective roles. But let's be realistic: this movie is meant to reinvent the premise as a new franchise, so Joss & Co. will not write around two main characters in order to re-introduce them (rather confusingly) in a second film (that may or may not ever come). If Ron and Alan are unable to resign, the parts *will* be recast. No use moping about it.

My vote for a Book recast: David Keith (maybe he doesn't have the look, but his voice is killer...Goliath, anyone?)

My vote for a Wash recast: Corin Nemec (I'm still ticked off that SG-1 ditched Jonas Quinn)

What you are not noting is the fact that Joss has said if the entire cast does not return for the movie, he would not do it. I don't think Joss made that statement lightly.

As for Corin Nemec, he is a fair actor, but still has a "boyish" quality to his features. I did not mind him as Jonas Quinn, but I still think Michael Shanks as Daniel jackson is a far better fit for the show.

Sasja, you make a really great point about the size of the cast already being bloated for a feature film. FIREFLY is half way to GOSFORD PARK in terms of cast size. So, perhaps, a film could cut out the Book thread altogether...though this would be a shame, given how cool and mysterious it is. But cutting out Wash, who would fly the ship?

KEITH DAVID, yes! Sorry, I meant Keith David, not David Keith.

Regarding Joss's pledge not to do the movie unless everyone signs on, well, that may have been stated before ANGEL's cancellation. :) The boy's got to work somehow.

Do the job. Get paid. Keep flying.

Here's a crazy idea - how about Joss Whedon himself as Wash? Wash always seemed to me to be the closest alter-ego onscreen that we've seen for Joss. (Even more than Xander, I think.)

However, I don't think it's going to be an issue - Alan and Ron will be in the movie. I have faith in that.

I only partly agree. Keanu Reeves can't act and isn't funny. Better keep him in movies where he only needs one or two facial expressions.

That's what I ment!

Hahahaha, that's brilliant! :-) Ever seen Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels? Danny's the cockney guy with the regular english subtitles who explains to the four lads about Rory Breaker. Classic.
