Another commercial I get irritated with but the name of the dog gets implanted in my mind:

Petsmart commercial and the man is calling to his dog: "Mr. Barkie Von Schnauzer"

sorry you aren't home, MsG. Take an extra Altoid. They help. A lot.

I hate to be the the one to point this out MSG but it sounds like you have a real problem here. Yes I know the denial is strong with this addiction.

Looks like we might have to have a Watercooler intervention!

They really do and thanks for the hugs:)

The commercial I truly loathe ( well actually a series of commercials) is that horrible Dr.Scholls with the " Are you gellin?" Makes me want to run a campaign to prevent anyone from ever buying any of their products.

Well it's taken all day, but maybe we finally hit on the imponderable: least favorite comercials. Barkie Von Schnauzer grates on me, too.

I have a general dislike for anything excessively, incessantly repetitive at gale-force yell.

Oooh, here's one I can jump in on (and thankfully so, since a mailing list I'm on is discussing whether or not bullying and harassment in public schools is just "boys will be boys" or if it is criminal activity, and if the bullying has any affect on eventual school shooters -- a topic that really gets my hackles up [my opinion for anyone who cares: criminal activity, and has a demonstrable affect on school shooters]).

There's a Burger King commercial running right now that makes me want to punch my TV. I actually stopped hubby from going to BK yesterday by reminding him about the commercial. It's here on YouTube:

For those of you without YouTube access currently, a woman is in her master bathroom when her children run up to her and say "Mom, Spongebob is at Burger King, can we go?" She replies, "As soon as your father is out of the bath." The children cheer and run away. Then her husband, who is in the background taking a bubble bath, stands up in the bath (covered in bubbles) and puts a bath sponge on his head. "Look honey!" he says, "Spongebob, no pants!" She gives him a look that is far more forgiving than I would give him, and leaves the room. Cut to info about Spongebob toys at BK.

Even with a DVR and fastforwarding, the only way hubby and I can get through that commercial is by making up ways that the wife could respond that would make the commercial actually funny. Our current favorite is "You are so stupid! I want a divorce!" Others have included "I have two kids, I don't need another" and "You aren't the kids' real father."

Man I hate that commercial. It's like the marketing team at BK just figured out the whole "Spongebob No Pants" thing. That wasn't even funny the first time an 8 year old said it, back when Spongebob premiered in 1999. I suppose I shouldn't be too rough on them though -- I've actually seen worse marketing campaigns being developed in person. What is it about marketing that eventually destroys the soul and humanity of those working the field?

Her look, while forgiving, does have a certain "I can't believe I let him father my children" and responds to his proud--and thankfully hidden--display with an anti-resounding "Wow..." How could I have forgotten this priceless piece of kindergarten intelligence insulting tripe. Good call CK.

Yeah I gave up on T.V a long time ago. I watch a few shows (like 3) on a regular basis, sports, a lot of poker (yes I know sad) and that is about it. Most of the time we are on the Discovery Channel, or Animal Planet unless it is one of their stupid shows like the AP's version of Cops.

I miss the shows of my childhood.... Where is G-Force, Thundercats and Voltron when I need them..... Oh and there was another show (that I cannot remember the name of) that was like a live action Transformers. There were these 3 robot things that lived in a volcano that turned into planes or something and a little Asian boy that hung out with the smallest robot. It was soo cool! Of course no one I have talked to even remembers it.

But hey I have season 1 of the Muppets and Fraggle Rock on DVD so I can at least laugh at a good show from time to time!

By the way, if anyone here is in advertising or marketing, kill yourself. Just a little thought. I'm just trying to plant seeds. Maybe one day, they'll take root. I don't know. You try. You do what you can. Kill yourself. Seriously, though. If you are, do. No, really. There's no rationalization for what you do, and you are Satan's little helpers, okay? Kill yourself. Seriously. You are the ruiner of all things good, seriously. No, this is not a joke, if you're going: "There's going to be a joke coming." There's no ing joke coming. You are Satan's spawn, filling the world with bile and garbage. You are ed, and you are ing us. Kill yourself, it's the only way to save your ing soul. Kill yourself. Planting seeds. I know all the marketing people are going: "He's doing a joke." There's no joke here whatsoever. Suck a tail-pipe, ing hang yourself, borrow a gun from an NRA buddy – I don't care how you do it. Rid the world of your evil ing machinations. - Bill Hicks

LOL- hey some commercials are actually funny. I am currently really enjoying one where a stunning model starts well back from the camera and says " I don't want to smell your body spray here" Then moves forward " Or here" then moves forward again " Or even here" Then moves super close " I want to smell it here"...I applaud every time it's on and am thinking of making it mandatory watching in all junior highs along with some sort of intensive training on the proper use of spray products of any kind...

Well, I didn't think the Quizno's commercial was all that bad. I could imagine many, many women actually saying that...amoung friends. In front of a camera for a nationally televised commercial? Not so much.

And for a national food chain to air it? Wow.

But then again, I also though the barki von schnauzer was cute...the first time I saw it. Most commercials...even the best, get old with about 3 viewings. If I'm watching live TV (rarely) I keep a book of crosswords or sudoku with me to do doing the commercials (yes, I'm a nerd).

Hey she A.) married this guy and B.) had two kids with him (assuming here). That doesn't paint the best picture of this lady's intelligence.

All of the geico commercials are terrible. Now the gecko is just talking jibberish. "I bet if geico served food that people would want to eat there". wtf does that even mean?

Luckily I'm usually only subjected to commercials at night when I'm just watching random stuff before bed. The rest of the time mythtv saves me.

Okay, MsG. I'll excuse your enjoyment of that one because you have a vested interest in the correct application of said product. But just so you know it was the first example of bad commercial I cited...Oops! I hope we're still friends. I think the part that got me was her downward glance at ? when she was at her closest. Not sure your hormonally incited mob there needs that kind of encouragement!

Seems I quit watching TV regularly and don't even really miss it. Kinda like smoking. One of our kids had a little cloth bag with cigarette re-burns in it somewhere in his room. One of the tech's found it during room searches and showed it to me. It smelled horrible, but my mouth watered.
No real point being made other than commercials, horrible "popular" shows, and the news have turned me off to regular TV.

Omg Rugbug, that is eeeevil. Hehehe.

I probably watch more TV than I should, but with my health I end up confined to the couch (or bed) in the evening every night, and the DVR and knitting projects help with that. I record House, Lost, Prison Break, The Office, and all three Law&Order variants, but I still end up watching a fair amount of Discovery and History channel. On the upside, I've produced quite a few hats.

Heroes
And Thursday night NBC (The Office, Earl (by default), Scrubs, 30 Rock)

I only get NBC.

When I'm housesitting I watch:

Every.Damn.Thing I can. Seriously. I watched Drive, American Idol, ER, Bones, Grey's Anatomy, Untold Stories of the ER, Animal Precinct, What Not to Wear, Flip that House, My First Home, etc. I'm excited that I get to watch Drive again...but after this week, I won't be able to see it. Grrrrr.

I get my TV fill when I house sit.

RIVERISMYGODDESS

mornin' Imponderables.

Thanks for the link ghoulfish, that is a very funny comic.

If we're still pondering TV/commercials, I'd just like to say that local commercials that attempt to look like professional(sic) commercials (and usually fail) are some of the worst.

Morning, RIMG, I'm on my way to bed, but I wanted to stop by and say "Hi." I went to see Nathan in "Waitress" last night. I absolutely loved it. It's a very sweet movie.

Puglicious Pugnificense? Here I thought Mister Muggles from 'Heroes' had the worst pet name.

My sister got that 'Puppies' Nintendo DS game a while back. She adopted a black and white huskie puppy. I convinced her to name it 'Badger'
