America loves a winner!

Are Book and Inara considered 'outlaws'? By being a member of the crew, I can see how Kaylee might be viewed as one, but not so sure about the other 2.

I like

I think they are because they have full knowledge of the crimes and do nothing to stop or report them. This could be considered aiding and abetting.

Secondly, in 'Trash' Inara handled the stolen goods. She also provided a false alibi for Mal and Zoe in 'The train job'.

Well, now, if Inara is such a wanted criminal, how is it she finds work all over the 'verse ? You sited cases where they may have committed crimes , but if no one knows about it, is any crime really committed? Think about it

They don't like it when you shoot at 'em.

How's about:

"Serenity, no power in the 'verse can stop her."

"Welcome to the Wild 'Verse."

"Meet the Alliance's Most Wanted."

"Smugglin', armed robbery, prostitution. And they're the good guys."

"Space, the final frontier, for real."
or
"Space, the wild frontier."

Anywho, that's all I've got for now.

If that is the case then none of them are outlaws,
'cos none of them have been caught. Plus, their employers know the crimes were committed and so do they, so technically someone knows. The sheriff also knows that Inara was directly involved in 'The train job.'

If someone nicked your car I think you would consider it a crime and hence the people who did it criminals, even though you wouldn't necessarily know who they were.

Inara finds work all over the 'verse 'cos she is stunning and good at her job. Even if she was a known outlaw I don't think that would bother most of her clients.

Following your line of thought, that means you didn't exist until yesterday, cos before that I didn't know you, so a belated happy birthday. (evenbiggergrin)

In short, there's a difference between a criminal, and a 'wanted criminal' (you might also want to distinguish between a criminal and someone who has broken the law, but that's a whole other big debate).

Substitute the word 'fugitive' for outlaw, and it makes things less ambiguous. There may have been illegal activity, but they're not 'on the run'.

Of course if a crime has been committed, it's been committed, regardless of who knows what. It's like when a tree falls in the woods and no-one is there to witness it. You could argue that it didn't make a noise, but it definitely fell.

CYBERSNARK

I just had a cool thought for the movie posters. How 'bout one poster for each actor; with kinda an airbrushed, indistinct (i.e. mysterious) look to them, with a single tagline for each (and their names in movie-esque "w i d e f o n t" across the bottoms, just for recognition).

frex:

*Mal, all desperado-y, brown coat billowing*
"Old Soldiers never die. They're just too pretty."
(Nathan Fillion is M A L)

*Zoe, pointing her shotgun-pistol toward the camera*
"Getting out of this with honour and dignity."
(Gina Torres is Z O E)

*Wash, grinning goofily*
"Wash. Up."
(Alan Tudyk is W A S H)

*Jayne, holding his gun across his chest*
"Jayne can be a boy's name. Vera can be a gun's name."
(Adam Baldwin is J A Y N E)

*Book, a Bible crooked in his arm*
"Read any good Books lately?"
(Ron Glass is B O O K)

*Inara, sultry as ever*
"The world's oldest profession. Without the world."
(Morena Baccarin is I N A R A)

*Kaylee, hands tucked casually in her pockets, grinning*
"Machines talk to her. Wouldn't you?"
(Jewel Staite is K A Y L E E)

*River, looking mysterious*
"Sometimes troubled Rivers run deep."
(Summer Glau is R I V E R)

*Simon, all dapper and neatly pressed*
"Playing doctor."
(Sean Maher is S I M O N)

(T H I S gets pretty annoying, du'n it?)

Cybersnark - for Mal, how 'bout: "When the war ends, he'll keep on fighting", or something along those lines. Maybe "when the war is over".
For Book, maybe something like, "His past is unknown; his future, undecided"
Simon's could mention the fact that he didn't choose his situation. "Trying to survive, in a world forced upon him."
For Jayne...I dunno, something simple..."Don't turn your back"

Conversly, you could have a poster of each of them, with their job under it.

"The captian"
"The soilder"
"The mercenary"
"The pilot"
"The mechanic"
"The missionary"
"The doctor"
"The fugitive"
And of course, "The ship"
-Steve
