if you head over the I, Robot the Movie site you can catch a picture of Alan Tudyk. it appears he'll be the 'face' of the titluar robot and probable be the biggest role you'll never see him in (ala Golum).

Good to see Alan is getting work the success of the Firefly DVD's probably helped.They probably hope casting him will get the Firefly fans to see it. Maybe it will make a big star and give people yet another good reason to see the Firefly movie.

Tried to enter the site but after 20 min I got bored not working to hard to promote it to us dial up users I guess,probably figure we haven't got any money anyway,oh well.

Alan also has a role in the upcoming movie "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story." He plays a character named Steve the Pirate and boy, does he look good!

Check the lobby of your local movie theater for a large cut-out photo display of this film. He's in the back of the group of players in yellow uniforms. I haven't been able to find any photos of him in this role on the internet, though.

I'm pretty sure that I'robot started filming before the Firefly DVD's even came out and I doubt that there are enough Firefly fans to warrant them casting Alan just to try and bring in viewers.

I had a thought if Alan Tudyk is the title character in "I,Robot" making him if not the star at least the co-star of Will Smith wich is huge by Hollywood standards. And is comming out in another movie "Dodgeball:A True Underdog Story" that might indicate he's worth a lot more now and could be the reason there has been no confirmation yet of him being in the Firefly movie.

I'm sure he'll do the film and it's not like even if he does become a real star I think he'd stiff the Firefly fans by saying not enough money or something. But with Alan's star on the rise it could make for some tough contract negotiations.

Just a thought.

Yeah they are both in, they said they were in during the sci-fi/comic convention in san fran on Dec 4th (a year and a day since they were told they're cancled)

As for my comment about Alan Tudyk being the title character, I don't actually think it translates into that much screen time. Sadly "title character" and "star" are not synonymous in this case.

Apparently Nathan Fillion was once referred to as the "title character" in Saving Private Ryan even though his character was a different Private Ryan. I never did hear if it seemed like the article's writer was trying to be funny, or just hadn't actually seen the movie...

Actually, this may mean a lot of work as the orig. tale of "I, Robot" was the first of three novels spanning a long stretch of time. In fact the human cast changes book to book.

There were prodigies and portents enough, One-Eye says. We must blame ourselves for misinterpreting them. One-Eye's handicap in no way impairs his marvelous hindsight.

I know there are far too many good books out there for anyone to have read them all - but I, ROBOT is based on some of the nummiest science fiction ever written. Considered by some to be the definitive Aasimov. Not just for the sci-fi fan, either, these are very accessible novels, great characterization, etc. It does what all great science fiction does, and one of the things I think we all love Firefly for: presents the wondrous potentialities and seemingly paradoxical baseness of human nature. A very worthwhile read, and certainly best to be read BEFORE watching the movie, although that may be my own bias. I admit, I think it ALWAYS best to read the book before seeing the movie.

The trailer is up. I am sorry to say I am a little disapointed realy. The I Robot book was a great set of short storys, not what seems like a bit of an action fest. However, I have fathe that Will Smith will make it a fun movei to see wich I will go see this summer and it was /awsome/ to hear Alan's voice again. I hope this and Serenity are the begining of a great movie career.

This movie seems to be loosely based on one of the stories in "I, Robot". The book was actually a collection of Asimov's original robot short stories that got published in, I believe, "Astounding Science Fiction". I wonder what kind of damage Hollywood has done to this story...

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

From what I have read, the producers for this film merely co-opted the title "I, Robot" because they knew it has high name recognition. But their screenplay was not actually based on any of Asimov's stories.

From what I saw in the trailer on the "I, Robot" website, they ripped off the model name of the robot in questions ("Nestors/NS-5s") and what the robot originally did, namely murder.

I'll take your word for it that the screenplay is not based on the original story, "Little Lost Robot". However, they seemed to have borrowed from it.

I definitely will read the HE screenplay article you linked to here.

Well, they certainly retained some of Asimov's plotlines, including the 3 laws (and perhaps the 'zeroth law' if the trailer is any indication...) and the murder investigation centering on the possibility of a robot as the suspect.

I think they have possibly rewritten some of the script to include a few of Asimov's concepts but they were not there originally as far as I know. This is similar to how Verhoeven's "Bug War" morphed into Starship Troopers after someone commented on the similarity in plot.

As for my sig, I was wondering how long it would take for someone to ask. If my source ( http://www.proz.com/) is correct - and so far there are four confirmations that it is - it translates as "We're still flying."

I saw a thing about I, Robot on Entertainment Tonight (don't ask why I was watching it

) and saw like one really short scene that had Alan in it, or I guess that would be the robot since it's not really Alan... But anyway... If I hadn't known that Alan was playing the robot I would have never guessed it was him. It doesn't sound like him at all. Of course, all he said in the scene was "I did not murder him!" so one line is hard to judge.

This looks like an interesting movie. Obviously Will Smith will be the motivation for people to see it, or if you're a Isaac Asimov fan I guess you would go too, to see if they butcher the book.

Maybe after people see I, Robot and find out that Alan Tudyk played the robot, they'll become interested in other stuff he's done and eventually make their way to buying the Firefly DVDs. Then they'll read about the movie in the works and plan to see Serenity when it comes out!

You can't do robot without the 3 laws. They had to use them no matter what they did to the story.
