Did any one else see that new bank commercial, can't remeber the bank, where they are making fun of other banks by showing a bank robbery by the bank's own employees. They tell everyone to get on the ground. Then, at one point, a customer on all fours starts to raise up and they tell the bank customer "Don't be a hero". Right out of Serenity, the movie.

Not the first time I have seen a show or commercial borrow ideas from the greatest show and movie in history. Anyone else have some examples to share ?

I have seen this. Strange way to promote your bank. Must admit I did not notice the hero portion. But I rarely pay much attention to commercials. Although I have found them more entertaining then the show I'm watching at times.

America loves a winner!

Would have loved if one of the robbers had yelled out the lead bad guy's name, ala Jayne.

Yeah, link anyone ?

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

To be fair, "don't be a hero" is pretty common robbery dialogue.

Now, if someone had asked for/offered the definition of a hero, that'd be a more deliberate reference.

Yes, that is kind of common dialog, but the bank customers were also down on there hands and knees if I remember correctly. Just seemed like a deliberate borrow from Serenity.

I don't think the commercial went over very well, though. I only saw it once and it probably was pulled.

Saw an new Serenity copy last night on Atlantis. They had reason to sink the city under the water to lesson the impact of some ray weapon being trained on the city shields. The character Dr. Weir got on the city-wide address system as you can picture Mal doing, to announce to the city the sinking of Atlantis and she stated "could be bumpy". Just seemed like an obvious tip of the hat to Serenity.

Maybe it is just me. I tend to see these things everywhere ;-)
