May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Saw that Shiny had posted this in the "Nathan Fillion Birthday" thread, but thought it worthy of it's own thread:

Hello, all.
It has been awhile. I hope everyone is well, and flyin' under Alliance radar. As I'm sure you are all aware, the movie is a go and I can finally breathe a sigh of relief with the same lungful I've been holding since cancellation. Let us in this time of celebration not forget all the hard work that has made this possible. Not the least of which is the incredible support of you, the fans. Stay rabid. Also, allow me to take a moment to tell you that Joss is a dirty fighting bastage and will kick anyone in the nuts to get this beautiful baby on the screen. With the quickness and strength of Tiger Kung-Fu, and the grace and magic of Dragon Kung-Fu, he has made this happen for us. All of us.
Now that the movie is for certain, I find myself fulfilled and lacking of much wanting. But I have come up with this: In much the same fashion of your Shindigs and Firefly viewing parties, go to the movie. Bring a friend. Bring two friends. Bring people to the movies. Lots of them. Now, I realize that movie going is an expensive endeavor nowadays (Alliance plot), so in an effort to keep it affordable- BRING YOUR OWN SNACKS.
Keep flyin',
Nathan "Cappy" Fillion
PS
Alan Tudyk says: See "I Robot and Dodgeball". My birthday just passed.

I just love the fact that our Captain keeps in touch!

That the cast is just as rabid as we are about the show is a wonderful thing!

I *love* his description of Joss, too!

Nice post from Nathan! It's cool that he's not one of those distant Hollywood looosers who forgets about the little people out there (like us) who buy up these DVDs and try to keep the spirit alive. Hearty thanks to BC1 for sharing that post

I am so excited about this movie!
I am going on the first day it opens to stand in line...
even if there is no line, I'll bring friends and we will line up!

Of course I have all summer, while the movie is made, to get more people hooked on my Firefly DVDs!...

BTW: I understood that Ron Glass has been signed up for almost a month now, it was mentioned in Variety and again here:

'Firefly' Gets Its Feature Wings By Brian Ford Sullivan CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) --
Universal Pictures has greenlighted "Serenity," a feature film based on the short-lived FOX series "Firefly." The studio snagged the feature rights to "Firefly" from 20th Century Fox Television back in September (read the story).
Production on the project, budgeted in the mid-eight figures, is set to begin in June for a 2005 release date. Joss Whedon, the show's creator and executive producer, is on board to write and direct the project, which will see all nine original cast members - Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, Morena Baccarin, Jewel Staite, Adam Baldwin, Sean Maher, Summer Glau, Ron Glass and Alan Tudyk - reprising their roles.
Whedon told Daily Variety the title shift is designed to give the franchise some distance from the TV version. "It was important that people understand that the movie isn't the series," he said. "The movie is bigger, more epic than anything you can do in a series." He also added he went out of his way to make sure the script was accessible to audiences who never tuned into "Firefly." "You're not going to bring people into a movie if you're explaining all the time what happened before," Whedon added.
Details about "Serenity" weren't released however Whedon specified the feature is set about six months after the TV show left off.
Barry Mendel ("Unbreakable," "The Sixth Sense"), Alissa Tager and Mutant Enemy's Chris Buchanan are executive producing the project in addition to Whedon.

Great to hear we can actually see the long awaited movie, "Serenity" in April 2005. In the meantime, I agree with the Captain, let's all go see "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story" on opening day, June 18, 2004 to see and support Alan Tudyk (a.k.a. Wash, our beloved pilot); also,"I, Robot" on July 16, 2004.

* Bows down to captain Reynolds and obeys the fabulous Alan Tudyk by buying advance tickets to Dodge ball and I Robot *

Which by the way, I don't know if I am alone here, but I would not be seeing I Robot if it wasn't for Alan Tudyk. It looks kind of lame. But Alan Tudyk will make it all right.

It is so great to hear from Nathan Fillion and I am sooooooo happy that there is the BDM. I will be dressed in my Kaylee costume and cheering at the top of my lungs at the end of the movie.

Are you kidding? Have you read the books by Isaac Asimov? "I, Robot" is actually based on a series of books called..."The Robot Novels". They're a great read. There is actually one called 'I, Robot' - they've just recently changed the jacket - it now has Will Smith on the front; but, best of all it has Alan Tudyk's name on the back! If you're into Science Fiction, give it a try!

I don't think it's the identification that'll scare people away, but the overwhelming noise of Asimov spinning in his grave when they turn I, Robot (a brilliant, cerebral, philosophical story) into The Matrix: Second Renaissance (a sustained action sequence about the Evil Robot Monsters).

Wow! Have you seen the movie? Maybe we should all wait until we see it before we make such strong, derogatory remarks about it. I think Alan's character, 'Sonny', will give it the compassion to make it a 'brilliant, cerebral, philosophical story'!

Keep in mind that Asimov's short stories were not meant to be one cohesive story, and they had one character that tied them together in any fashion.

Also keep in mind (I'm picking up Jefe's habits now... ) that the makers of the movie I, Robot are NOT claiming to be adapting Asimov's works to the silver screen. They have specifically stated that the only similarity attempted was that the "thread" character in Asimov's works appears in the movie as well. (Much like what was done with Heinlein's "Starship Troopers" - the movie was never meant to be a thought-provoking adaptation of the book. It was meant to be what it was - a fun ride of an action flick.)

In light of that, I'm prepared to go see it as an individial piece, totally unrelated to Asimov's written works.
