I dunno if anybody here watches Lost(probably a stupid question), but I dunno if anybody notices Jack's use of our cappy's phrase, 'Everybody dies alone.' I mean, obviously, he's no the first person to say it or the last, but it did put me in mind of the way that they mentioned it in the show. Jack and Mal both remind me of each other. They both have this kind of misguided hero thing going, and at the same time, they both have kind of tortured pasts. Then to tie it up, they both have very messed up romantic relationships with the people that they're supposed to love. They both get this sort of faraway look in their eyes when they say it too. Maybe it's just me. My fave line in Lost, ever, is when some guys have gone to the beach to wait for 'the Others', and Rose and Sun's spouses in particular. They don't hear anything, and only hear two of the three explosions that they're supposed to hear, and Rose is getting antsy. She tries to explain that they should go back, and Jack gets on that everybody should stay together track. He begins to make his case, and Rose stops him, "If you start that everybody dies alone stuff again, I'm going to punch you in the face." Best. Line. Ever.

Interesting. Are there any other instances where jack actually says it and not just in this reference by Rose?

Actually, Jack's line was "Live together, die alone," and that is what Rose told him he better not say again. I agree it is close to Mal's line in "Out of Gas" but not exact.

I haven't really watched Lost this season (kinda lost faith after last season). I can't completely agree though that Jack and Mal are similar. Jack has this whole self-righteous thing that I never did like. Mal is more accepting of other's flaws to me.
