Which disc holds your favourite episodes? Which do you find yourself putting in the most?

Here's the handy chart:

Disc 1 - Serenity 1 & 2 (with commentary), The Train Job (with commentary), Bushwhacked
Disc 2 - Shindig (with commentary), Safe, Our Mrs. Reynolds, Jaynestown
Disc 3 - Out of Gas (with commentary), Ariel, War Stories (with commentary), Trash
Disc 4 - The Message (with commentary), Heart of Gold, Objects in Space (with commentary), all the extras

My ratings:

Disc 3 (I consider "Out of Gas" the best of the best, and Disc 3 the only one without a sub-par episode on it.)
Disc 4
Disc 2
Disc 1

Oh, and the first ten posters to maintain that they adore each DVD equally and can't be forced to choose win a one-way trip to the Special Hell.

Since disc #3 has my two favorite episodes, Ariel and Out of Gas (in that order), disc 3 is the best!

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I have a feeling there will be many to join me in that Special Hell.

So far, I have only watched the episodes in order every time, do not skip around with the discs. At least not yet, and I am on my eighth viewing of the series at this time, with Heart of Gold up for viewing this evening, and more than likely Objects in Space as well if I have the time. Then I'll probably take a break for a bit since disc 1 is out on loan.

Yes, disc 3 probably has the strongest lineup of eps, although OIS is my favorite by a slight margin. But most of the time it is a lot like trying to determine which is my favorite Heinlein book or my favorite Phil Ochs song, usually think it is the one I'm re-reading or listening to at the time.

Disc 3 is also my most watched, because it has Out Of Gas and War Stories.
Then it would be disc 1 (Serenity), disc 4 (Objects In Space), and disc 2 (Jaynestown).

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Definitely Disc 3. OoG is my favorite episode. Of my converts, two of them like OoG the best too.

I had been thinking about posting this same question!

For me, it's disk 3 as well. I loved Out of Gas, Ariel, and War Stories. That's what made this show so amazing, after I watched another ep, I thought: "Ok, that has to be the best one.", and then I'd watch another and change my mind! It started with Out of Gas, but then the more I watched War Stories, I thought it was best. But now, I'm convinced The Message is best. And Objects in Space was better than I remember on TV. 3, 2, 4, 1

So, besides the best DVD what's everyone's favorite single episode?

(I'm going to be the democratic response here, as several people have placed Disc 2 as their least favorite)

My order:

Disc 2
Disc 3
Disc 4
Disc 1

Reasoning: primarily, Shindig, Jaynestown, and Our Mrs. Reynolds were the episodes that stuck in my head long after the series went off the air, before the DVD's arrived. To me, this means they spoke to me in a way that other episodes did not, probably just the writing.

I will admit, however, that Out of Gas is probably my single favorite episode.

Keeping with the trend, I have to go with disc three as my favorite. Out of Gas and War Stories are two of my favorite episodes, but of all the discs, this one seems to have the most continuity between episodes - especially between Ariel, War Stories, andTrash.

To me, though, each disc has its own personality/role within the overall set that keeps me from ranking them more specifically. Disc one is the intro, and I love watching it over as if with fresh eyes, meeting the characters all over again. Disc two takes the characters we've gotten to know fairly well, and lets us just have fun with them - the honeymoon, if you will. I think of disc three as the meat of the series, taking the drama up a notch and really developing the character relationships. By disc four we've earned the heavy stuff - the not so happy endings of The Message and Heart of Gold, and finally the crew really dealing with River as a person in Objects in Space. The special features on disc four are like dessert, though I think of the deleted scenes as part of their original episodes.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with my purchase!

HANS

I'll break the trend and say disk #4 as my favourite, just because I love "Objects in Space" so much. Plus it has Adam Baldwin singing "The Ballad of Jayne" and all those other funky extras.

Disk three is great but not perfect. I enjoy Out of Gas (it's one of my top three favourite episodes), and while the Ariel/War Stories duo are true classics I don't revere them quite as much as others do.

I don't think the pilot gets enough love so I'll rank disk #1 third.

Our Mrs. Reynolds is also in my top three episodes, but the others on disk #2 aren't quite as good so that one goes last.

Damn, for such a short lived show there's a huge amount of "must-see" TV. even if you put my four least favourite episodes (HoG, Train Job, Safe, Trash) on one disk it would still be great television!

I thought Trash was a great ep, and fit in with Out of Gas & Ariel as one of my favorires- making this yes- another vote for Disc three as my top fav ;).

Disc #5 and it's missing!!

my fav is OiS, then OoG, then Serenity

then there are parts of others that i think of my favorite. jaynestown - when they first see the statue, in the pub, singing, toasting, river & book's hair. safe - they way they edit together rivers dance and the gunfight, the end where simon shows he'll give everything for her, and she knows mal is coming. the message - at the end, the music, presenting tracy's body to his family, kaylee gives them the recording and walks over to simon and takes his hand. war stories - the banter between mal & wash, the part where mal explains to zoe they have to sleep together, trash - 'yeah that went well', every episode's around the dinner table.

it probably easier to say what i don't like, which ain't much.

"They say the snow on the roof is too heavy. They say the ceiling will cave in. His brains are in terrible danger."

This should be a poll question. Me? I like 3, 1, 2, 4. Serenity is very strong and I loved Bushwhacked, but all the stories on disc 3 are just excellent.

War Stories is my favorite episode of all time, I've probably watched it at least 20 times by now, and certain parts of the episode even more than that. Disc 3 also contains Trash and OoG, which are two of my other favorite episodes. Ariel is also a great episode.

I'd have to say that Disc 2 comes a very close 2nd because of Shindig, my 2nd favorite episode. Also a solid disc because of OMR and Jaynestown, but I'm not as fond of Safe.

Disc 1 is 3rd for me, because it's always nice to look back at how everything started.

Disc 4 is my least favorite. The Message and Heart of Gold are my two least favorite episodes, and whenever I watch the special features I end up really sad so I can't watch them too much.

Disk 5 sucks because it doesn't exist.

I'd probably answer differently on a different day (or even a different hour), but:

3- My 3 favorite episodes (assuming you don't count "Serenity", because I can't quite figure out how to place it in there) are on it: OoG, Ariel, War Stories. Plus, nummy commentary on two of those. This one would stay where it is, regardless of the day. The rest might shift all over.

1- How can a disc with Serenity be any lower than 2nd? TTJ and Bushwhacked aren't my favorite episodes ever, but they've grown on me a lot over time. Plus the commentaries on Serentity and TTJ are awesome.

2- I adore every one of these episodes, but none of them strike me as the bestest television ever. Plus not a whole lot of commentary, and what's there isn't that entertaining, at least relatively speaking.

4- This disc just depresses me, because then there's no more. I get all choked up watching the gag reel. Also, Joss's commentary on OiS makes me feel like I'm back in school being forced to read philosophy. It's better philosophy than anything I read in school, but I'm a little scarred still. It was definitely interesting to watch once, but it's not something I want to watch over and over like, say, the War Stories commentary.

COSMICCONCUBINE

Disc 3 is definitely my favorite. My two favorite eps are "Out of Gas" and "Trash". It depends on the criteria though--for me, both disc 1 and disc 3 stand up very well to repeated viewings whereas I'm finding that while I really like "Our Mrs. Reynolds" and "Jaynestown" a whole heck of a lot, after seeing each a few times I'm kind of tapped out on them (at least for now). I guess I have to go with 3,1,4 and 2.

I cant believe i'm the only one who likes Serenity the best..

Disk 1
Disk 3
Disk 2
Disk 4

But really there is not much in it. Every Ep has something that appeals to me.
