You know what the first rule of flyin' is? Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take a boat in the air that you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of worlds. OK people so here's my current issue. Is it ever right to go against your own beliefs because the don't match someone else's? My current argument is over someone taking on the role of expert and telling other people they're wrong. I view this person as far from the expert on the topic at hand and stepped up to point out that they do exactly what they're saying is wrong. They replied that it's ok for them to do it because they know more and can avoid problems. Which I pointed out was totally elitist. Not to mention it's assuming the other person couldn't possibly know as much and be able to avoid problems in that situation as well. Things all blew up from there of course.

I know it's probably difficult to understand without me pointing out the exact topic but I don't think it's something to really drag all over the internet. Point is should I just shut up and let the insulting go on? That's supposedly the "nice" thing to do. I don't see how sitting around listening to someone insult another person who isn't even there to defend themselves is "nice".

So, is being stubborn about not just sitting idly by an awful trait? Even if it is what am I supposed to do? Bite my tongue and not stick up for what I think is right? How is that any different than saying, "you should never say anything condescending and elitist so I don't have to point out when you're being a condescending elitist snob"?

..zzzzwt snort whuzzut?

*reads post*

Well it's a little difficult to understand without full knowledge of the situation, but you're basically saying he's telling people to obey the rules and then happily breaking them guilt-free on the (self-styled) assumption that he is somehow "special." He's saying the rules apply to everyone but him. He's the definition of "do as I say, not as I do."

I'd go with the elitist snob vote myself. And if he offers advice to other people, just let them know he doesn't consider himself in the same category as them and let them make up their own minds.

Then again, I'm known for being blunt and causing trouble that way. I hate elitist snobs.

I'd ask them to explain just what it is they do to avoid all these problems and then suggest they train everyone to do the same and then it'll be a non issue...either they'll be able to do it and you can all move on, or they'll back down:)

All I know is that if you experience this in a relationshipZeek than no matter what you do be ready for squabbles. Either you point it out and get chewed for pointing out a fault and making them feel bad or you say nothing and must prepare for more of it down the road.

Either way you are the bad guy. (ie. conversation between the Operative and Capt. Reynolds in the trainiing house before his ass whoopin ensues).

I think Joss amde a very profound statement with that scene. Human nature does not allow us to be right or wrong with other people. It is up to them to decide for themselves.

It just gets to feeling like a waste of energy regardless of whether you point it out or let it go. I see it as being another little bit of energy we just have to absorb and move on with.

ADD: Heya DTH. Nice title. Seems fitting for my mood today.

That's apparently what they were doing. Educating the person that they're wrong. The solution was that they are to tell her what their goal is and she will tell them what is options are acceptable.

Hey all.

Thanks for thinking of me. Sorry for being gone so long -- I've been lurking off and on, just haven't gathered up the energy to post. It's been a rough couple of weeks. Flare is still in full swing, though it doesn't seem to be getting worse. Got a new primary care doc who I think will work out, despite having quite an argument about our goals for my medical treatment. She sent me to get xrays of my knees and an ultrasound of my thyroid. Ultrasound came back normal (textbook example of why early and aggressive treatment is so frickin important), but there was a shadow on one of my xrays that the tech decided was a joint effusion. So I had to make an appointment for, gulp, an orthopedic surgeon.

Then this past weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) I had a previous commitment that I couldn't get out of, and didn't really want to either. I had a lot of fun, but it was 7am to midnight days, lots of time on my feet, and lots of energy spent being "on" all the time. (When you're home by yourself for 10 hours every day, and only see hubby or the pharmacist most days, you start to forget how tiring it can be to be social.) So had lots of fun, but had to keep up a med cycle and supplement with alcohol to be able to keep up with everyone else. I had a really great time, but I totally overdid it and wiped myself out.

Then I had to get up early yesterday to head to the orthopedic surgeon. Got up extra early to see if I could get my xray films to take with me, and was generally pretty stressed. The Ortho was very very nice, and one of the few doctors I've met with who listened to me completely, did a physical exam, and actually seemed to have some wheels turning in his head. He said that the joint effusion could happen for any number of reasons, and an effusion in one of the four main joints that bother me isn't enough of an explanation for what's been going on for the past 3.5 years. He also said that the effusion could be caused by several different autoimmune diseases -- he agreed with the previous docs (and me) that this is most likely autoimmune. He's going to write a letter to my new primary doc, which I hope will help a lot going forward. I'm relieved that surgery is out for the time being, but I'm actually kinda bummed that I won't get to work with him, heh.

Came home feeling de-stressed, and slept for four hours. Got up in the evening, but the weekend had caught up with me and I was feeling pretty massively shitty. Slept for 12 hours last night, will probably nap again and then sleep for another 11 or 12 hours again tonight. I'm trying to finish knitting a pair of baby booties before my best friend has her baby in a week or two, but I've been having trouble finding a comfortable position to knit in. Sigh. Oh, and been recently confronted with how much trouble I have asking for help, or even accepting it when it's offered. Hubby is a huge help, but I think he's starting to realize what a sore spot having him do things for me is. Can't do the stairs by myself at all anymore, so I'm not getting nearly enough sun, and our plans to get a puppy have been put off indefinitely.

So that's my past month in a nutshell. I'm still in the middle of it, so I don't know how often I'll be able to post. But I usually swing by at least once a day just to lurk, and I'll try to make a better effort to at least wave while I'm here.

*Hugs* to all of you. Thanks again for thinking of me.

I think that's the advice I needed. That there's just no solution that I can unilaterally implement. So, I basically have to accept that there are going to be squabbles on this subject and just let it go everytime.

ADD: Zeek, that is pretty much it. To hang onto that energy for later use is counterproductive to any type of relationship. It gets used in a later disageement and perpetually grows. The most you should absorb is the idea of letting go.

DTH- yup it's pretty simple
1- take no sh*t period
2- walk in and give them total respect and expect nothing less back
3- be very clear what you expect from them and what the consequence will be
4- stick to consequences. Do not waiver at all
5- The first time someone says or does something inappropriate, stop talking turn and stare directly at the person very calmly, continue to stare without speaking until you feel slightly uncomfortable then say casually " Is there anything else or can we go on?"
6- Open it up to discussion and really listen to them and always thank them for being cool enough to speak up
7- Never act like you are the be all and end all of answers and be sure to say " I don't know, let's look it up"
8- Love your subject and let that show
9- if you get a wise ass or one who can't stop telling you things, respond with " good to know" and keep going

CK- I am so sorry sweety I hope it gets better:)

My hair is actually BETTER on day two...or even three. I usually blow it dry and straighten it on Sunday night and Monday/Tuesday morning re-straighten it. Wednesday morning (sometimes Tues night) I was it again. It goes up Wed. day, gets dried Wed. night for Thurs and Friday (sometimes washed Fri morning). Washed again on Sat.

As a dude with long semi healthy hair I can vouch for that MSG.

But it gets annoying after a while. Not the touching of the hair. But the "You people have such nice hair."

But since I don't label myself I guess getting mad at anyone for such a remark is pretty dumb.

Really msg...there is better hair to want. You wouldn't want mine. It's wonderful after it's done...but doing anything with it is a significant undertaking. It doesn't go up in anything but a ponytail if it's already dry. Like you know those cute little twisty things you can do to get your hair off your shoulders? Like a french twist sort of deal? Um yeah...the ends of mine doesn't flop down. The stick up straight. I look like a wild person

And about barrettes and chompers and other hair things? Heh. I have found ONE barrette that I can use to hold all of my hair. Haven't found a chomper that's big enough with a decent enough spring to hold.

But, I could be bald...and that would be sad. I'd rather have my hair than super thin hair....

Morning Jimi darling and how is the lovely Ami doing? I just feel so badly for her. I have a friend who has really difficult pregnancies and her last was while she was healing from having broken her spine and pulverised her feet/ankles( she fell 2 stories because contractors hadn't informed owners that the floor and sub floor were gone and only covered in plywood) She had such an awful time and I picture poor Ami that way...wish I could help.

Zeek- well I think David Caruso is HOT so there you go:) ( It's more his attitude and such but hey the red hair looks fine on him)I always desperately wanted red hair ( one of my sisters is strawberry blond)and for a while I had it ( but it cost $70 every 5 weeks to maintain so I let it go)

Well I now know what parts of his morning Misterg would omit.. somehow he forgot to set his alarm and as I am off these two weeks I didn't set mine. Next thing I know he's waking me and saying it's 7:05 ( he has to leave by 7:15)He showered while I laid out his packet( the ones I make each week with pants, shirt, socks, and underwear) and made a quick breakfast and packed his lunch and then shot out the door like a cannon...apparently he omits computer time:)

Honestly, if my wife did that my skin would crawl. I'd look for signs that she had been replaced.

You know what the first rule of flyin' is? Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take a boat in the air that you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of worlds. And love keeps her in the air when she oughtta fall down… tells ya she's hurtin' 'fore she keels… makes her a home.

Replaced with a Stepford android. My wife is attentive to me, and I to her. Just not in those ways. MrsFly acting that way would signal a) android replacement b) mental instability c) the apocalypse. That particular nurture is not her nature.

But whatever floats your boat...

Actually it just sort of evolved and I'd really rather do less ( as I also do all laundry, cooking, pet care, errands, yard work, lawn care, and family stuff like birthday/christmas presents) but somehow it just kinda worked out this way and if I stop the whole house falls into disaster...Oh well it's all good:)
MisterG does do the dishes and will take out garbage, deal with car problems,and/ or help with pets if I ask and he is an excellent spider killer

Not that I would "swap wives", but MisterG would be in for an eye-opener. He'd need to learn to dress himself. ;-) And what would you do with all of your free time while I cooked? How would you deal with a husband that is involved with your clothes shopping? :-)

Not judging what YOU do, just saying how disconcerting it would be for me to experience that.

hey MsG *hugs*, Fly.

Ami is doing ok, though she keeps on trying to do things to force her labor. Spicy food, walks, sex, castor oil, she is trying everything, and yet she doesn't get the full labor that she wants (I see it as a sign that it isn't time yet, but what do I know?). I can understand why she is doing it, though.

*sigh* It seems like I end up doing most of the house/yard work, as well as both of the paying jobs...not complaining, just making note.

ZEEK

Morning folks.

So, what is it about "free" things that seem so much better than things that are earned through normal means like work? Today is another CircuitCity guarantees a new game in stock or they give you a $20 giftcard day. I'll sit here and monitor a thread about it online for as much time as it would take me to earn $20, but the giftcard is someone more desirable. So odd.

Maybe it's the "free" thing or the fact that I'm cheap

Hmm I don't know it's kind of like a present and that's always fun:)

Fly- LOL of course MisterG also has to deal with parade of outfits everytime we go everywhere ( I change clothes a ton before settling on a good outfit) and me freaking out thinking there are ghosts and making him come to bed in case they come back.So you would definitely not want to trade.... I like people cooking for me occasionally, but not often as I LOVE to cook...made roast leg of lamb with a shallot, rosemary, wine reduction sauce with portabella mushrooms and golden roasted yukon potatoes and zuchinni with dill last night...very nummy. From what I've seen...we should totally trade recipes. However I would love to have a husband that shops for me. I hate shopping...I love buying, but hate shopping. That's why I stick to stores where I'm sure of the size and don't have to try anything on so I can skim the racks, grab stuff, and get done fast:)

Fly- long as we're talking food... any thoughts on uses for leftover cooked lamb??

RUGBUG

Hi all!

msg: is misterg color blind? Just trying to figure out the packet thing, cause it is a bit... different.

Zeek: I've always pictured you with dark hair...even though I think you've said before you had red hair.

As for free things...they're always better. A co-worker who is moving to Italy just brought me a bag of work-type shirts she no longer needs. Even though the majority are going to be too big, I can't wait to get home to rummage through the bad. Yippee! Free Stuff.

And Victoria's Secret just sent a 'Free Panties' plus $10 off gift cert thingy. How much excitement is that? You betchya I'm gonna make an extra trip downtown to get those undies.

On a non-free note: I bought a scooter. Woohoo. I pick it up tomorrow...and I hopefully won't kil myself the next day. Eek.
