I just found out they're remaking A Tale Of Two Sisters.

And this on top of the One Missed Call remake preview, Which looks to be bad.

So, I ask you, when will hollywood stop making good asian horror films into bad american ones?

They'll stop when no one buys tickets to them.

And I don't think that Evil Dead remake will ever happen. They announced it something like 4 years ago, and there has been zero movement on it since.

My wife and I went to see the new Bourne film. Not too bad, but compared to the trailers it looked like film genius. We were treated to two revenge vigilantes (one with Jodie Foster and one with Kvin Bacon), as well as a host of "our-crack-secret-agent-team-is-in-trouble-and-you-can-just-bet-it's-because-of-some-secret-government-cabal" films. Come on people. Isn't Hollywood where imagination lives?

Let me posit a scenario for everyone who is against remakes. Say you find out there will be a remake of a beloved film, whether it was originally an American product or the remake of a foreign movie. Next, you find out Joss is somehow involved in either the screenwriting or directing. Finally, one or more of our BDH are going to be in the film. Do you see it out of loyalty or stick to your guns and boycott because Hollywood is once again being unoriginal?

of course i would see it, heck if the departed had nathan fillion in it, i'd watch it everyday. but since i like infernal affairs so much, and i don't care for leo, i'll skip it, even if it did win an oscar.

It's not that I'm against remakes, it's just that I'm against BAD remakes.

I see The Departed as the exception because they did a pretty good job (Despite Leo's best efforts to ruin it), they kept pretty close to the original material, and they got mostly good actors to play in it.

But if I had a choice, I would watch Infernal Affairs, because I think those actors did a better job, Andy Lau was way better than Matt Damon.

I really don't care if something's a remake or not, as long as it's a good movie. That's all that matters to me, if it's good or not.

If someone remakes a movie I like, and do it poorly, I'll rip into with both barrells. But if they remake it and it's good, I will gladly enjoy it, and encourage others to see it. But I'm not going to automatically write it off becuase it's a remake.

That's as narrow-minded as writing Firefly off because it's another "space show".

And for the record, I liked The Departed much more than Infernal Affairs.

And I liked the new Ocean's movies better than the original.

'Sides, there're enough old movies that I want to remake that I can't begrudge Hollywood their fun. Better a remake than a Disneyized sequel, IMHO. How creatively bankrupt do you have to be to greenlight Bambi II?!?

That said, however, I much prefer anime remakes (as series) to Hollywood's type (as star-vehicle movies). Samurai 7, Gankotsuou, Romeo X Juliet. . .

If I heard an American studio was going to be making "Romeo & Juliet: The Series" (with Juliet as a Zorro-style rebel vigilante) I'd be physically ill, but I'm practically drooling over the anime.

If you liked Gankotsuo you should check out Le Chevalier D'Eon, I'm in love with that show.

I couldn't agree more about the Oceans movies, and the new Star Trek flik makes me want to hurt someone.

Oh, and we already remade Seven Samurai, it's called The Magnificent Seven.

I agree, anime is, as I've found, always much, MUCH better then live action.
And I shudder, because they are taking Neon Genesis Evangelion- One of the greatest and most creative anime series of all time- and making it Live Action. Ain't sure if it's Hollywood or something else, but it's probably Hollywood, because they have a monopoly on big budget films. And Eva's NEED to be big buudget, or else you might as well just remake it as a bloody anime.

As far as I can tell, the Eva movie will be american, and will be made by ADV, Gainax and Weta Workshop Ltd..

The Death Note movies were pretty good.

And I've heard they're making a live Higurashi movie, I really hope they don't.

TRAVELER

I had a hard time with Clint Eastwood's "Pale Rider".

It is such a knock off of "Shane". And as far as I am concerned a poor one.

I like Spaghetti Westerns, but not when they steal the plot from an American Classic. It hurt even more because the acting was so poor. The only change they made was, instead of sod busters against cattlemen they had a big gold company putting pressure on the small individual minors and they replaced the boy with a girl. Give "Shane" or give me "Aces High", but don't mix the two together.

Then I take it you haven't yet heard of Evangelion: Rebuild

It's not so much a "remake" as a "remaster." They're going back to the beginning and reanimating everything from the ground up with the latest state-of-the-art techniques.

(And yes, I've seen the first two eps of Le Chevalier D'Eon at FanExpo. I loved it and am eagerly awaiting the box set (I don't buy episode DVDs; it's too slow and expensive).

I much prefer live-action to anime. I like some anime, but I'd never choose it over a good live-action show.

As to the new Star Trek - I'm excited. I like JJ Abrams a lot, and Quinto is a good choice for young Spock.

And with recent word that Nimoy will be playing old Spock for a signifigant portion of the film - possibly as the lead, I'm psyched.

Nimoy is in it, playing old Spock for a signifigant portion of the film, and says it's a great script (and he's not been one to mince words if he didn't like a trek script).

Maybe it's a wee bit premature to totally freak out?
