Recomendations: World War Z, and Zombie Survival Guide.

Both are great books for the impending zombpocolypse.

yeah shorter blade gives you more force at the center of the blade and it's an angled blade so you get more cutting surface as it enters the neck...try to aim for the cervical vertebrae between C3 and C4 it's the best one...if you can't hit that, then I'd try for the cerebellum.

Pistols - almost worthless. You just aren't that good.

Rifles - slightly less worthless. Must be loaded with hollow points, you need to be in a good position (unbreachable by Zak), and have 'enough' ammunition.

Shotguns - Not bad if you have 'enough' ammunition.

Swords (or variants of e.g. machete) - Never need reloading, but require some skill to employ efficiently, need to be kept sharp.

Crowbars - Never reload, never need to sharpen, never break. Heavy enough to cave in skulls with minimal expertise & may get you through a door or window in a pinch.

I'd have an Egyptian mace and a katana as backup. Crowbar is all well and good, but the mace is designed as a skull-caving weapon.

I'd definitely have a low-guage shotgun, in case crowd control was necessary, then probably the machete AND the crowbar, because the mixture of a sharp and blunt would be most effective, and I also agree with flattop that you may need to break into something with the crowbar. :)

I love zombie everything. If I ever get married I plan to have it in my vows that if I get bit by a zombie my husband is supposed to shoot me in the head. Seriously!

Read/heard some time back (No source, ymmv, std disclaimers) that even if we were to disband our military and police forces, and count only registered (which is nowhere near the true total (not all states require registration, and crooks notoriously don't comply with laws anyway)) privately owned firearms, the USA would still be the 3rd best armed nation on the planet.

See I think a flamethrower would be good crowd control as it forms a nice barrier along with making it more difficult to get to you...mace sounds good though ( however takes a good deal of upper body strength to be effective)
See as a general rule girls have less upper body strength so we're unlikely to be able to swing a tire iron or mace with sufficient force to kill with the first blow. During zombie attack having to use more than one blow delays you( dangerously) so I think I'll stick to machete, where I know I can decapitate ( trick is knowing where to aim and at what angle to swing)

Actually they arn't the best defense because the living dead keep walking towards you until they are fully burned up. thus you run the risk of them making it to the structure you are in and starting it on fire.

Not to mention it doesn't always guarentee a kill, so when cleaning up y our people could get bitten and infected.

lol... I'd personally go with a kokiri or 2... BIG thick blade with a nice wide head, and the blade is on the inside curve of the head... = very VERY easy chopping... but a bit on the close range side... so I'd have a kokiri or 2, a machete or katana, a crowbar, and a shotgun with a very wide choke for crowd control... I'm SET for a zombie invasion

Thanks for posting this, Soul.

Personally I'll be heading out with a scimitar (curved blades work well for beheading), some kind of carbine (in a common caliber), and a pistol (in case I get bit).

And everyone remember to wear bite-resistant clothing... oilskin, leather, cotton duck, heavy denim.

Trust me... I know what I'm doing.

.....ROFLMFAO!!! And I'm in a library "working" on my homework currently... got some strange looks for that... OOOOOOOoooooo!!! New idea for a talk story/blue sun room fiction.... How would the BDH's react to a zombie invasion?? Or, for the talk story, just make it like a good ol' fashioned zombie survival thread... could make the different sections different days... people could join alone or in groups... damn... I think I need to start this... but I don't really have that great of luck starting talk stories... Ahh well... I may try anyway, who all's in??

And... good point with the curved blades, and the carbine idea ain't too shabby eather... be best not to have to use that pistol though

Seems certain meteors carry amino acids neccessary for the creation and mutation of life. Funny that you would think of the exact same thing I did when I saw the article this morning.

And remember folks, unless attacking in force firearms are really of no use other than to repel an attack to sustain a steady retreat. Noise causes attention and firearms make plenty of it. And there is always the option to deny the world one more zombie as long as you have at least on bullet for your weapon.

Who here thinks they could hack their own head off with a katana or magic themselves to death?

That's what I thought.

You could always just fall on your sword... or commit sepoku if the blade is short, and sharp, enough... but I really shouldn't be talking about these things...

... Seriously though, who wants to start a talk story about "World War Z" with me? It could be fun for a while, till we all end up munched and zombies ourselves... then we could take our zombie selves on to the little chat deal and bite others... make a whole gorram ARMY of Firefly watching zombie fans

Have them both, read them both, and yes, both are excellent books.

As far as zombies go, I'm ready. Got bug out bags, food stores, fresh water stores, rifles, pistols, swords, maces, machetes, and most importantly plans on where to go and what to do.

What? Yes, I am a bit of a survivalist and have all sorts of supplies.

If we don't get any news out of Peru we might be looking at the beginning of the zombie hordes. Just in time for Resident Evil Extinction to hit theatres!

When I think of defense I have to say that I would love to have the M18A1 clamore mine because think about it, hundereds of steel balls shooting out to about 100 meters across a 60° arc in front of the mine.

They are easy to set up, and just a small hand full can defend a great deal of space.
Once you blow those just go out and stick a few more in the ground and repeat.

*Blink, Blink*

I hate to say it... but SpaceAnJL has a point, and makes a kinda creepifying sense. I suppose we are enfringing on the undead's unatural right to unlive and have a fresh start.

However... considering that they'll most likely overrun us one day, that'll makes us a minority. Isn't it illegal to discriminate against a minority? Who protects our right to continue living in a non-rotting state?

Perhaps we should call a diplomatic meeting of the factions. Offer them a light snack, and when they're all distracted by their finger foods......

and the crap out of them!

Resident Evil opens tomorrow and you can completely tell the depth of my love for little Wyatt as it's his birthday tomorrow and I will be at his party and not at the opening night of Resident Evil..

If I were you, I would drop him off at a sitter and go to the matinee on Saturday.

No way....and he's my nephew so I don't really need a sitter for him. I wouldn't miss his birthday for the world..but I will go see Resident Evil the next day...

Reckon you do love the little one.

As for me, I'll be seeing Resident Evil. Got my ticket and all ready to go.
