Yes, 1 movie would be great - but I "want my trilogy" !

Name the next movie "Serenity Lost" so that it has to be followed up with "Serenity Found" (tip of the hat to Jane E's latest book of essays by the same name). Within those 2 titles I think Joss could create a heck of a story that could fill in most if not all of the remaining back-story mysteries.

Just a suggestion, anyone have other possible title(s) ?

There's part of me that doesn't want Serenity in the title at all (a la Star Wars) but something new and unique.

I suppose there are intellectual rights issues involved with simply calling it Firefly?

I do understand your view - but then, there is such a thing as building "Brand" awareness/loyalty. As long as the name Serenity is not used in some cheap knock-off of some other movie sequel, I think it would be okay. With all the play on HBO/Cinemax, etc that the first Serenity movie has received, it would help with recognition. And based on the past example of marketing for the first Serenity movie, the next ones will need all the help they can get.

Serenity
Serenity Lost
Serenity Found

does borrow from "Paradise Lost". But that is a famous classic poem by Milton, rather than some cheap movie sequel, so I think the association could be a positive one. In fact, the movie sequence could be a loose parallel to the poem - which might provide a huge number of interesting possibilities for our BDH's.

Here's some titles that might attract a bigger audience:

Serenity 2 : Journey To The Edge
Serenity 2 : Showdown In Space
Serenity 2 : Countdown To Infinity
Serenity 2 : Civilization On The Brink

I don't know, something about "Serenity 2" makes me cringe. Could be the other bajillion sequels that have been made recently. What's wrong with "Serenity", then a kind of subtitle? Why do we need the 2, besides letting people know there was a 1?

Yeah, I agree....Serenity 2 is lame.

We need a mass audience for the next movie...so what's popular that people will want to go out and see? We need a minimum of 20 million people spending $ 7.00+ to break even.
So.....how 'bout...

Desperate Housewives In Space
Rosie O'Donnell Meets The Reavers...or alternate title....Leave It To Reaver
Who Wants To Be A Space Millionnaire?
American Idol Of The Universe
Hillary Conquers The Galaxy...aka Rise of the Rodhams

I think Serenity Lost works because Milton's Paradise Lost is one of the most famous epic good vs evil stories of all time. God vs Satan - with a conjectured sympathetic view of Satan. The analogy to the Alliance vs the BDH's, another set of opposite sides, could really be exploited - yet turned around - The "Outlaw Side" (ie Satan side) actually being the good guys. The whole 2nd movie could be putting the BDH's in peril (Serenity Lost) to be resolved in the 3rd movie (Serenity Found) with the BDH's reclaiming their freedom to "go their own way" which was lost in the 2nd movie. Yeah, rather classic story arc, but that's okay - I think we want something epic here. And it would be great to have a 2nd movie that requires the 3rd to be done also ;-)

Sorry, but although I'm a semi-trekkie myself, I don't think we should borrow from Star Trek. Firefly and now Serenity(s) need to be their own creation, instead of a mis-match of other creations.

I rather think I like the idea of Serenity Lost and Serenity Found

RiverFlan,
Not meant literally, just what the Alliance will try to do to quell the angry people who saw the Miranda broadwave, including possibly the crew.

"...but they are not gone. And they are not forgiving."

Wouldn't "Serenity Lost" be depressing title, too?

Second movies are usually the darker ones anyway, so there will be big to solve for the third.

Just curious but why are so many of you against having SERENITY in the title for a sequel?

There is a good point to having just simply: Serenity II. It establishes the fact that there was a Serenity I to start with and for those who weren't aware of it, it would advertise as such. So while it may look a little limp it actually is practical. Granted it is hardly lyrical or profound, but I think Serenity itself went down this route. We've all just become accustomed to it.

However just for kicks I'll offer a few :)

Serenity: Persephone Bound.

Serenity: Serenus (When in doubt go Latin) :D

Serenity: Into the Black

One Hundred Years of Serenity.

The 'Verse according to Serenity

Serenity II: The Raggedy Edge.

Yes, Serenity Lost would be a depressing title, that would be the point! Second movie and all that as you indicated. It would also be allegorical for the whole Serenity/Firefly experience. The cancelation of the show, the less that great initial run of Serenity (first movie) and the continued rise of the popularity resulting in the final completion of a whole trilogy of movies with Serenity Found. I believe with such an arc and set of titles all of the incomplete story arcs and backgrounds could be addressed, resulting in a final state of serenity for the fan 'verse.

I wasn't saying that I wanted a depressing title, just stating the fact that I think that title was depressing.

Here are some titles from me:

Serenity II: In The Black
Serenity II: The Search for Wash
Serenity II: Still Fylin'

Yes, I know, Serenity II is kinda boring, but it is practical, and we have the added stuff to it, so it shouldn't be too boring

Love it!!!

Hints at hard times ahead for the crew, gets a few words from the 'firefly' theme..

This is now my title

Someone mentioned before

'Serenity II - The search for Wash'.. that was my idea..

But 'Serenity: Into the Black' is a million times better.

God let this happen

Joss has taken too long in bringing this rumour down.. Nathan is now a bankable star, the cast is still desperate to work with each other again..

And lets not forget us browncoats who will literally do and buy anything necessary!
