It really does rely on a couple things. I only look okay in a few shades of yellow...I'm hoping this is one of them. It looks like it is, but the internets can lie. And that whole slinky factor could be a problem. We'll see. I like it enough to gamble...makes me think of Kate Hudson in 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.' I may be dreamin', but a girl needs something to keep her going. :D

oooh but slinky is good...every woman should own a slinky dress that makes them feel hot! I say go for it. Though I'm surprised you aren't going for the whole dressmaker thing. I'd bet there are tons of good seamstresses and you gould get just what you wanted and in the color you wanted nice and cheap. Best place to find seamstresses...local fabric store. There are lots who don't mind letting you pick a pattern and the fabric and then doing thedress for you to fit perfectly..

Man, I cannot concentrate on work. Thanks for the prayers guys. *Hugs* The news scared the crap out of my poor mother, out in Texas, and I think our neighborhood may be spared on the strength of her prayers alone, heh.

Pretty dress RugBug! I'm sure it'll look awesome on you. Promise to post pictures! I looove holiday party dresses. I've gone back to my roots making my formal dresses, after a couple of years of trying to find things that fit off the rack. Last year I made a red satin dress with a fitted top and a poofy skirt, with black tulle sticking out from under the skirt (like this http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5001.htm?tab=evening_prom_bridal&pa
ge=2
but with straps), and I'm still trying to find excuses to wear it. This year I decided on black satin, based on this dress:

Mine will be a bit more fitted through the front of the skirt, with box pleats in back, and probably just wide straps instead of cap sleeves. I'm making a wrap to go with it too. And since I'm using patterns I already had, the grand total was $24 (not including labor, but I don't think I'll charge myself ). I've started on it already so I won't be too rushed (first party is Dec. 7th I think), and I find sewing so much more enjoyable than trying on dress after dress that doesn't fit. :P

And why is it if guys have it so easy, they make such a big deal out of what they do have to do for a formal event?? Hubby's lost so much weight the past month and a half that we're going to go suit shopping for him before the holiday parties. Should be an entertaining experience.

(Yay for dresses, distracting me from both work and the fires!)

No, no...I LOVE you all for those things.

msg, first party is Nov 10th...not far enough away to consider sewing something.
CK, get down with your mad skillz. I haven't sewn in awhile, and usually have patience enough to do it rarely. I've sewn mostly vintage type stuff, usually taking pieces from several different patterns to make what I want, but it's so labor intensive, I tend to stop sewing for years after.

Possibly because it costs way more than what it seems worth. Other than that I have no problem with getting formal clothes. It's fun how easy it is.

Walk in tell experty people what you need. They swirl around grabbing things off of shelves and get it all coordinated up. A few measurements and a card swipe and you're out the door. Then you get to look all 007 for whatever occasion is coming up. Nothing to complain about there except the bottom line.

I was looking through the Casual Male catalogue last night and realized that I gotta get my button ups from them only to have them taken in from the chest down. I had one cool black rayon short sleeve with a preacher type collar I'd get dudded up in from time to time. Seems I like plaling dress up but haven't had the chance to wear my suit since summer before last.

All this pretty and nowhere to show it off. Darn.

After finding size 16 Chuck Taylors, another casual Skechers low top boot, a longshoremans style jacket (peacoat?)that will actually fit my shoulders, and an awesome brown leather baseball jacket I can't help but wait for some of my side work to start payin' off.

And yes ladies, some of us do envy your ability to go to the highest degree to look utterly spectacular. Aside from the shave, nail/hair trim, and possibly some exfoliating we are stuck finding fitting clothes for fitting occasions while trying to impress with a little extra attitude. Not that y'all don't do that, but I know for me, as a guy, it is a rare thing I have to relearn every time I do it.

But getting gussied up sure is fun.

I totally envy those who can sew... I can needlepoint and such, but not real sewing.

Oh hells to the yes. I can take pics of my brothers wedding pictures. Of course they are three years old and taken at the Bountiful Temple (North SLC).

So there is a discussion by both men and women over at the ZPAW site I post stuffs at titled "BOOBIES". Of course you can guess about what the discussion contains as we have had similar discussions here. Naturally someone posted this:

and I thought it to be a fairly accurate observation. Of course there are women who have no curves but oh well. I have no ass. Really. Not that I want a big ol' booty, but I kinda like myself the way I am. I just hope more folks can accept themselves and others for who they are.

Oh yeah...I caught that one. 'Tis true that you clean up well.

msg, I knew you didn't mean I should sew the dress. :D But, I don't think I could find a pattern, material (which is usually $$$$) and a seamstress in time. So let's all keep our fingers crossed that not only is that yellow the exact right color, but that the dress is slightly forgiving and cut like it was made for me...because that would make me very happy.

As for curves...yep, I got my fair share. I also do more than my fair share of worrying over them. But I don't let that stop me from having the fun I want. I am what I am. Wait, that would be Popeye. Well, I'm me, take it or leave it.

WOO HOOOO!!!!!! I just found my Cypress Hill Live at the Fillmore in my box under a buncha crap. Time for some Insane In The Brain.

I was thinkin' about all the parts I like about a woman and realized how much all the curves and folds and such make for a grand person as a whole especially when holding that woman is loving and warm. Hugs are great. I like holding hands ALOT. And kissing, hmmmm kissing. But holding someone close, arms fully wrapped and holding on tightly, gentle strokes on the shoulders and back... Oh c'mon MSG, ya gotta have a favorite part of a woman. Really though. I had Mindy draw in real close and bury her nose in my chest telling me how good I smell after a gentle growl.
Whoa. Good compliment. All I do is take a shower and put on deodorant. What is that smell? I know her taste a little more than her smell (unless she is wearing "her" perfume).

As for scent, dunno...always figured it was a bit of male muskiness of my guy at the time. 'Course, I've been noticing that eye color tends to fascinate me...but then again, I'm used to dealing with mainly dark brown to light brown eyes so any other color is just so exotic and fascinating. (Former ESPN anchor Larry Beil has most incredibly blue eyes I've ever seen... ...And that was when he used to be on TV here every day in the '80's.)

'Course a nice, warm body to snuggle/cuddle into? Mmmm... (Yer evil NVG...I'm going to have to find a way to stop missing having my geek around.) *sigh* I'm going to need a cool shower tonight...And I'm going to make sure that your shower NVG is ice-cold.

Morning all. Fire update: it's moving east of us, so we're out of danger for now, but the winds have died down and so the smoke is just hanging around. It looks like a thick fog. I ran an errand last night and was hacking up a lung sitting in my car with the windows up and the AC on recycle. I think it would set off our smoke detector if we opened all our windows. They say the smoke will be around for weeks, because we're not going to have much wind, and the wind we do have will be coming from the west, from over the Pacific -- and you can see the huge smoke clouds over the Pacific from the past week from space. They're recommending no exercise outside for at least a month.

Anyhow. 80 grandchildren might be the most I've heard of, but I have 28 first cousins on my mother's side alone. With my 5 siblings, that makes 34 grandkids. My mom has 5 siblings, and each of them had 5 to 8 kids. About 10 of the grandkids have kids of their own now as well. We've never all been in the same place at the same time, and there are a couple I haven't seen at all since I was 7 years old. A few months ago I tried to name them all and couldn't remember someone's name. I called my mom and asked, and she said "Ephraim. Everyone always forgets Ephraim." Hehe. I also have 6 first cousins on my dad's side, and the potential for a lot more.

Of course MrG, you are living in Utah, so I wouldn't be surprised to hear of large families. Hell, half of my cousins live in Utah.

That, my friend, is Molly. Also known as the most awesome character to come out of Marvel comics in the last decade. The image is taken from an issue of 'Runaways' written by none other than our very own Joss Whedon. He's currently doing a six issue run for the comic. Before that, it was written by Brian K. Vaughan, who's writing the current run in 'Buffy' as it happens.

But seriously - Runaways. Get the trades. You'll love it.

Reminds me of me. I had a comic shop I loved to go to, had a hold there for years. But as time went by I started to read less titles, made my hold smaller and smaller. Then the staff started putting in comics they thought I would like, but were also adding them to my hold list without my requesting it. So I'd get my stack, tell them "I didn't ask for these" they'd pull out the list say it's on the list.. needless to say I finaly got fed up, closed out and have refused to go back since. I've only gone there once in in about the last 15 years.

Next Dimension COmics and Card is a local shop that has operated in some form since 1990. It started in the 88Cent video store. I would walk from school to the 88cent, rent movies, read and buy a book or two, walk a mile or so to Frontier liquor (a sporting goods store on the other side of town) to browse guns and pick up ammo for the weekend, and hitch a ride or have dad pick me up every so often to get home. Sometimes I'd leave my mountain bike at a friends and ride it home from town. Mostly I did this in Jr High and Freshman year. TImes changed so quickly. Used to be you could drive to school with your bird/duck gun in the gun rack since early morning and dusk are prime hunting times. The most questioning you got was what loads you were using and where you were hunting. Of course no one gives up their prime hunting spots. Can't do that no more. Sucks.

Side tracked. Sorry. So I've done business with Chuck (owner) for a very long time. Lately he's been shorting us on air and selling crappy products for the Paintball field. Sucks because it is the only place in town with comics, awesome toys, tons of Anime for rent, and all sorts of games.

I can understand the confusion with my mention of fetish, rape, paint, and air.

One on it's own would have been okay, but all of them together + long day at work = one confuzzled hippie. Sorry!

Yeah, my mom's side of the family is all Mormon. My family is too, I'm kind of the black sheep. No Hirams in the family though. Other than Ephraim, I think our weirdest is Dalan, after Dalan H. Oaks.

That weird habbit always bothered me. Family who lived behind us, 7 kids, all started with K.
Hey, I'm the only one in my family without a J name for either first or middle name. My family says that's why I had to go out and find a guy to marry whose name starts with a J. And my mom and all her siblings have J first names, and A middle names. Three of the six of us have J first names, and that's bad enough.

And lol at NVG! Making me miss the comic and game shop in Austin, all the ones out here suck.

Seems we won't be needing anymore whiskey now do we. Seems you really know how to have a good time despite the tired hazyness.

ADD: Ah, that's the one. Seems I couldn't find the right sig for a moment.

I don't know what to say. He knows that he has a corner on the market here in town. I ain't sayin' he's a bad guy. Just that I don't really want to do business with him for a while.

Between all of you and little old me, I'm crushing hard on my work counterpart right now. Happens occasionally but she is especially attractive and clingy today.

Evil evil man. Go away from here at once!

Didn't work. Did I just type that? Whoops. At least I didn't say it, I think.
