Over on Whedonesque they are reporting that the captain's appearance is cancelled. In Variety they are reporting that MOST (all??) late nighters are off as of TODAY as they will honor the strike and not cross picket lines.

I think this will factor into filming scripts already completed too.. the teamsters are not crossing, and many actors etc. may elect not to as well...

Things may grind to a SUDDEN halt... but hopefully that means they will settle sooner, to avoid the losses of income.

With the studios getting ready to roll out their big time end of the year Oscar kind of movies.. and with no talk shows to appear on to promote them, there is a significant ripple effect possible here...

About time they roll out some decent movies.

Hope the strike gets resolved soon.
Hope Nathan gets another appearance.
Maybee they'll play the rerun with Nathan and frisky browncoats.

Don't Boo Hiss! They didn't cancel him because they don't like him or want him on the show. They canceled him because the Producers didn't want to pay the writers fairly. I admire everyone in the business who recognizes the strike and doesn't cross picket lines.

Aw dang it! I knew this was going to happen!

ETS: James Gunn just posted an interesting blog about the strike on his MySpace.

"The studios will also rush movies into production with unfinished scripts which means, in a little less than a year from now, you're going to see the sh*ttiest movies of all time." LOL! I love James.

EmpireX, you beat me to the punch!

Yeah, the big, fat studio execs are getting even fatter in the wallet over new media (video downloads, etc.) and none of the profits are going to the writers, actors, or directors... you know, the people who actually work for it! (Somehow, someday, it would be nice to see the teamsters, etc. get a little bit of that too 'cause they have families as well.) Personally, I really hope it ends soon 'cause many of my friends in the industry will lose their steady television work by Christmas if someone doesn't do something quick!

Btw, this strike is at odds with the execs over at F-- as well!

I aim to misbehave, but I usually miss!

FWI, it was Simon who said, "History is program by the winners," and Mal who said, "Half of writing history is hiding the truth." Just to let you know.

True. But, I spent most of the day today working on a film set, and I can tell you that history seen first hand looks a heck of a lot different than history read from a book or a news paper. This strike, if successful, is going to effect people like our BDHs who have to keep working for a living and also the people that help make them look good more than the executives. And--believe me--those execs don't need another house in the Caymans.

well, when i heard about the strike, i kinda figured Nathan's return to ferguson would be one of the first things hit. and, my second thought was (sadly) "oh, good, i can get some sleep that night after all..."

and i'm completely behind the WGA strike. while it sucks that we don't get entertained by late-night hosts, and that if it continues on very long that all my shows will be stuck in reruns, i'll "suffer" through reruns. i support the writers. they deserve better.

Phyrelight

your point is well taken.

There will be a negative impact on all the other aspects of the industry from the lighting guy, to actor, to make up to the secretary at the front office.. there is no doubt that everyone on the set will eventually feel the pinch and much more so than the big suits...

but sometimes ppl have to make a stand... and one cannot always depend on the kindness of the bosses...

I hope the strike will be short lived and that you all benefit from the progress that will come from this strike...

Since the show "Drive" cancelled, things has gone downhill, I think any cast of Firefly will have better chance in movies or in top rated shows.
They cant stop us browncoats. Yep
