The Man they Call Jayne

I feel for the most part that WE, browncoats, as a whole love AB’s Jayne character in the FF/Serenity series and movie. You know the big, tuff guy with vulnerabilities. But my question, what was his best role (acting wise) in the series? I would choose to say that Jayestown was Adam at his finest. I mean he showed so much depth in that eps. From being the self preservator at the beginning (by wanting to carry a hidden weapon) to the “Hero of Canton” in the middle, “I think I really made a difference in their lives”, to the I ain’t worth your worship self criticizer at the end. This episode shows all the facades of Adam’s Jayne character and I would venture to say that we would have even seen more depth from this character had Adam (as all) been given the chance.

Do you have a favorite “Jayne” moment? If so and you want to talk about it post up. I’d really enjoy hearing about it.

Well, Jaynestown was Adam's favorite episode. Most of my favorite Jayne moments are in that episode, and the "Don't tell'em what I did." at the end of Ariel, was another for me.

When he reaches out and pats Saffron gently when she's crying in Our Mrs. Reynolds ( I think it's cute that despite his tough guy facade his first impulse is to comfort her)

For me, definitely Jaynestown. I sing that song all the time, out loud, and would ya believe people think I'm weird?

Both are from Our Mrs. Reynolds:

When he tries to trade Vera for Saffron (I honestly thought he was going to shoot Mal for a second there the first time I saw it) and later when he says "That's why I never kiss 'em on the mouth."

Cracks me up every time.

I think of that little part as an effort to get laid more than an honest sesne of sympathy really.

As for myself, I'll have to go with the airlock scene in Ariel.

I am with jossisagod on this one.

When he tells the whore about killing and screaming in ""Heart of Gold" comes in a close second. Jayne has and wants to satisfy his sex drive, but he also shows his respect for the woman he is bedding as he calmly tells her about handing him his guns in proper order. He places trust in her to help him in the gunfight and does not talk down to her. I also noticed he did not bounce from one woman to the next, but stayed with the same female through the entire episode. A shade of monogamy coming from Jayne.

Then third is when Jayne reads his letter from Mom. You can feel his love for her as he places the knit cap on his head.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

From the series it would have to be the closing scene in Jaynestown. "It don't make no sense."

One of my favorite scenes in the BDM is when Jayne confronts Mal about going back to Haven - "Hey! I'm talking at you!"

I'm with Traveller on this one, although I must add the part where he brushes her hair, and where he actually dressed up for them.

I think it's an interesting bit of Jaynes character that he's got no illusions about what they do for a living, but doesn't in any way see them as less of a person for it.

In his own strange way he's a VERY honest guy.

Totally agree Frem. Jayne is what he is, and you can take it, or leave it. Gotta respect that in any man, I think.

As for favorite lines, it may not have been much of an inspired scene, but my favorite from the series has to be:

"What'd ya'll order a dead guy for?"

Regarding Jaynestown, I'll give it best Jayne outfit - that head-to-toe with goggles incognito deal.
For best acting by Adam, top 3 are Ariel, Train Job, and OMR. Ariel gets it, for the entering hospital, River waking, practicing the lines, showdown with Mal scenes.
