Apparently it is because the production company is shutting down. Frankly I feel for the people who are going to be out of a job, but any reason to cancel some of the crappiest Sci-Fi ever is a good one.

Finally.......

I always thought Andromeda was not that bad. Certainly not the best SciFi out there, but good for mindless entertainment.

Read the article again; nothing's official yet for Andromeda (likely, yeah, but not official). Though, admittedly, production hasn't started on S5 yet, when S4's production started in late may last year.

And I feel compelled to point out that Andromeda at least started well, back in S1. Back when it was Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda, an intelligently written hard-SF ensemble show.

S2 was Kevin Sorbo's Andromeda (a mediocre action show starring Sorbo and supporting cast), then S3 and S4 were The Adventures of CAPTAIN DYLAN HUNT, Saviour of the Universe, starring KEVIN SORBO (a poorly-written action show starring Sorbo and extras).

No need to read it again:

"A deal for the next season to air exclusively on Sci-Fi may save that series from extinction but the possibility is remote at best. According to a number of industry insiders, Sci-Fi Channel would not have the money required to take up the slack from losing Fireworks as a co-production partner."

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Mutant X just never really grabbed my attention. Andromeda was good for the first two seasons, but went downhill after that. Gave up on the show.

Wonder what Sci Fi is going to do since they just bought Andromeda. Maybe they will move production to the U.S. or another Canadian production company.

Heh you are absolutely right. I think Lexa even mentioned this in one of the DVD shorts. She said something like "Kevin wanted to get to mix it up with a babe every episode, like Captain Kirk used to"

Season 1 was great, and even Season 2 wasnt that bad. Season 3 DVD's are coming out right now, and they are either bland or just plain silly, especially compared to Firefly.

Still, I think Andromeda was better than a lot of things still on air, especially the mindless reality shows.

Yeah, Andromeda was great the first two seasons. It all kind of fell apart when Trance changed. Was that the season-ender for season 2?

Mutant X was always overly-emotional, underly-meaningful garbage. Umm, hello? The lightning guy can fly by flinging electrical strikes at the ground?? *laughs* Then why isn't he blown off his feet every time he flings them forward? Stupid, stupid stuff. And sappy writing.

I do still watch Andromeda, but I'm looking forward to what comes next to fill either of those slots. Cleo 2525 and Jack of All Trades were both better shows (as comedies) than what Andromeda has turned into and M-X always was.

Actually what happenned on Andromeda was that Kevin Sorbo got the head writer/show runner Robert Hewitt Wolfe fired. The situation came about due to an episode where Harper (a character who is basically Spock and Scotty combined) when back to Earth to liberate and failed. Kevin Sorbo and company also lost the battle in the episode as well. Basically because the good guys didn't win, but lived to fight another day, Kevin Sorbo got the guy fired. The quality of the show has been inconsistent since then. That pivotal episode along with the one that James Marsters guest starred in were some of the best.

America loves a winner!

I never knew why Mutant X made it past the pilot stage. Sure, the idea to piggy back on the success of X-Men was a no brainer for some T.V. exec pin heads, but I never saw it for more than it was....a cheap, made for t.v. knock off of the original. Kinda like getting watered down TANG when what you really wanted was fresh squeezed orange juice. ( I'll spare this board my views on the ridiculousness of some of the mutants 'powers' in terms of their evolutionary merrit. )

Why shows like Mutant X adn Andromeda get multiple seaons and Firefly gets canned .....remains a disturbing mystery.

Heh shooting electric rays reminds me of an old tv show, "Misfits of Science" I think THAT show was better than mutant x, because it didnt treat itself so seriously.

Jack of All Trades is another quirky tv show that I liked watching, what few episodes I did manage to catch. It would be awesome to have Bruce Campbell in a Firefly episode, or the movie. In some ways he (and some of his charactors) reminds me of Mal/Nathan

I was never able to get into Andromeda, despite the Gene Roddenberry title, and my being a die hard Trek fan... but this is right on the heels of a SLEW of Sci-Fi network ads about running the original seasons, then starting a whole new one... someone's losing a job over THIS, I forsee.

As for Mutant X... I think I accidently watched one episode a year or so back, and, honestly, I first thought the whole thing was a joke. Mutant X--as in, "X-Men?" A band of mutants?

It was unwatchably terrible, poorly written, poorly acted. Another case of a crappy action series relying on T&A to sell itself to the unwashed masses.

Good riddance, I say.

Sorry for the actors, but as it has been said, this was some of the worst sci-fi on TV in years, and Mutant X was always a poor weak, watered down, mirrored, shadowy copy of the X-Men. Utter tripe. Glad its gone so it makes way for some new ideas, oh whoops, what was I thinking, it makes way for more reality tv, just what we really really need!!!!!

Bitter about Firefly being cancelled? Yes. Bitter about these shows being given air time in first place? No. They had a shot, and failed as they were crap TV. Just wish they would try more inventive stuff instead of turning handle and bringing out more of the same crap.

The reasons why Andromeda and Mutant X made it as long as they did was because the group(s) behind them kept throwing money at them. Yes, the popularity of the X-Men is what fostered Mutant X.
Andromeda has sucked since the beginning yet had some small potential. Maybe there was a reason why Roddenberry never developed it. It was an incomplete idea when it was rummaged from his files (Garbage can?), as was Earth: Final Conflict.

All 3 shows? Crap. Crap stories, crap acting and crap production. Who gives a damn about Sorbo's ego? That only made it proof positive that you cannot polish a turd.

Both Andromeda and Mutant X were in syndication and had no suits at a network waiting in the wings waiting for the ratings to dip. Which explains why Nightman and She Spies are still on the air.

Actually, the full story of Andromeda was that, to gain the high profile needed to get off the ground, they gave Sorbo the Executive Producer mantle.

If he'd been just the lead actor, it would've been okay; he's actually fairly good in drama if the writing pushes him.

He fired the writing staff (they were "too cerebral" and not "interesting" or "adventurous" enough ), then got the new writers to reinvent Trance. Rev Bem left 'cause the actor had a makeup allergy, not Sorbo's fault.

Then came the Fall of Tyr Anasazi. First, Sorbo effectively neutered him, reducing the highly-intelligent, treacherous, romantic, brooding anti-hero into a musclebound lapdog. When Tyr was still more popular (with the women's demographic) than ageing Kevin Sorbo, he kicked him off the show. Women still complained, so they brought Tyr back to kill him off in an utterly stupid way (running away, brought up short by a cliff, then shot in the back).

It irks me 'cause the same thing could very well happen to any show --just because they need a big name to get off the ground.

Gee ain't it a shame about Mutant X! Right, that has to be the single most frelling awfull, badly written, acted, produced sci fi in history, I stopped watching half way through the pilot episode it was so bad. X Men rip off badly done. As for Andromeda, can't say I'm surprised. Gave up after season 2. They killed of Tyr? Ah well it figures, the only half decent character amongst them all and they bump him off!!

Actually the actor who played Tyr left the show for his own reasons, mostly because he felt the character sucked at that point.

They did butcher him at the end of season 2.

The main reason that Andromeda and Mutant X were canceled didn't have to do with rating. the company that was their distributer was shut down due to money problems FireWorks was having, just last year parts of the company had been closed now the rest of it was killed off.

I hate you all. Andromeda is the best show on television, and you twits are to narrow-minded and pompous to see. Perhaps if you looked for-at-all the good parts in the show you would not be so stupidly pessimistic about it all. Yes, they will shut it down, no I will not be able to watch it. At least I won't have to listen to this bullsiht every time I go onto a site that I THOUGHT was an Andromeda fan club.

Have a nice fcuking day.

Andromedanut, you are either flamebait or a moron. Oh wait- Those are one and the same.

I truly have found the best parts of Andromeda-Generally the minute after the show ends, or the minute before when I remember that taking an hour long power dump would be far more interesting.

By the way-Your writing skills suck. Did you write for AnDUMeDUH?

While I'd love to expand on this...eloquent statement...I don't think I can stop laughing long enough to coherently type out my whole-hearted agreement.

SO, I'll mosey on past that right on to...

I'd just like to meekly point out that I believe the producers (or TV rights owners or whatever) of Mutant X actually did breach their contract with Marvel Comics; there were threats of litigation but both sides came to an agreement (meaning, enough money changed hands to keep them from squawking). So, I guess Fortune favors the really bad sci-fi shows.

While I personally never could get into Mutant X (I caught a couple of shows) I didn't think it was all that bad. Yes it was a rip-off of X-men but still.

As for Andromeda. All I have to say is this. I love the show and the idea that there won't be anymore episodes is kin to the feeling I got when they said Firefly was to be cancelled and Stargate SG-1 was to be cancelled.

Opinions are something everyone needs and deserves to have shared but you have to remember something. Other people have different opinions. Think how you would feel if someone started cussing out Firefly. Then start talking shit about another show that you don't like.

You can state your opinion without being mean. Of course, then again, you all are human so maybe you can't.

My response was in kind to the nature of that message. Simple. I certainly do not take issue with somebody who wants to disagree in an intelligent and rational manner. In this case, it is clearly a case of anything but that.

I have seen posts regarding Babylon 5 that are seriously in the negative. Frankly it is my all time favorite Sci-Fi show and always will be, but I am not going to go off unintelligently and start cursing out the people who do not share my opinion. People are certainly entitled to their own view. If somebody makes it personal I respond accordingly. Simple as that.

Oh and I thought of another good part of Andromeda-Back before it was on the air and only the synopsis was being bantered around. Seemed like a good idea at the time.....

Oops, time to take another power dump. The subject of Andromeda seems to have a laxative effect..........
