In the Aliens vs. Predator thread the subject of Weyland Yutani coropration was brought up. It occured to me that 'The Company' from the aliens universe, Weyland Yutani Corporation bears somewhat of a resemblance to Firefly's own Blue Sun Corporation. Both huge Multinational (Interplanetary?) companies, with their logos on everything, who are into some very shady business. It also occurred to me that this theme has probably been dealt with before in other movies / shows.

Anyone remember any other big bad megacorporations?

It's not exactly an answer to your question, but on the Evil Megacorporations theme, the line in Jaynestown, where the Head Mud Guy is showing Our Heroes around the Mud Operation and tells them that most of their labour force is indentured "So we pay them next to nothing and pass the savings along to you" reminded me SO much of the time I worked at WalMart that I briefly wondered if Joss was taking a stab at them

CYBERSNARK

Well, I recently read a Matrix comic that had a "Sentinel Electricity Co." billboard in one scene. (Get it? Squid-like Sentinel robots? Humans in jars as living batteries.)

And, of course, DC comics gives us LexCorp.

There's also Xanatos Enterprises and Nightstone Industries from Gargoyles.

Ooh... good ones.

I wonder if Cyberdyne Systems Incorporated applies... seeing as the company itself was likely destroyed.....

I doubt it since they only build Skynet and maybe the T-1.

Of course Mitsubish, Honda and Sony live up that title in real life, which is pretty scary.

Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems

I think that one was pretty evil, though maybe not a mega-corp.

Edgars Industries, however, was evil and multiplanetary.

So, Capitalism is the root of all evil?

Tynacorp. Don't know if they are a megacorporation, but they are evil; they are responsible for Towelie, and stole the boys Okama GamesSphere on South Park. Oh, and they were alien invaders. That is pretty evil.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Not a movie/show, a book:

"Young Rissa" by FM Busby. Don't remeber the name of the corporation, but it was written in 1984, and many of the events written about in the book (starting with "the old Soviet Union had fallne") have since come true.

ANOTHERSKY

I'm not ENTIRELY, 100.000% certain, but I'm pretty sure that the ACTUAL Weyland-Yutani logo (or something close to that big w) comes up in the pilot episode of Firefly and also in the Big Movie. Watch for it. I'm pretty sure I saw it, but haven't been able to get my hands on it lately.

The mottos of both corporations are so close, (e.g. "making/building a better world") that it's got to be a Joss joke--he did write for Alien 4, which contains too many other highly eerie similarities/references to name.
If you can stand the storyline which switches back and forth from wholehearted camp to 'eh, that was baaaaad' moments, you'll see what I mean.

Going for a ride.

Yeah, the logo is in the background when the crew are (I think) being 'invited' to see Badger. It's somewhere in the background of Eavesdown Docks, anyway.

Tyrell Corporation. I'm whole-heartedly on the side of Roy, Priss and the others. Something like them has to still exist to build the love-bots, after all.

And I think the fry-cook job Wash got fired from was at Mooby's!
