Over at the 109 board there was a poll for the most over rated scifi show. Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Firefly was on the polling list of 6 shows.

http://io9.com/352111/whats-the-most-overrated-recent-tv-show

On the same site there's a short interview with the sexiest kick-ass in the 'verse,

http://io9.com/344341/io9-talks-to-the-newest-terminator

Even though shes talking up Terminator, she still had time for a few words for our show.

"Let's say something magical happened tomorrow, and they said Firefly was coming back on the air. Would you be up for it?"

"You know, I never had another experience like Firefly. It was very different for me because I'd hardly worked before. I was like a little sister and it was a very safe environment for me. I've never had that since, and I would definitely go back in a heartbeat."

In all fairness, Firefly polls lowest with 5.7% (944 votes), compared with BSG's 9.4% (1546) and Lost's 36.6% (6036).

Well I guess a show being overated doesn't necessarily mean it's poor. I see Lost is high up there and as much as I love that show I can see that the fans can go overboard as to how good it is. Truth is it just floats my boat so I guess I'm prone to overplay its cleverness. Just keen I suppose. I do see a few friends glaze over at my enthusiasm for it when I speak about it.

I think the same thing could be said for Firefly, although everyone I did talk to about Firefly and subsequently lent them the DVD also fell in love with the show! Just happens I don't know anyone who doesn't love Firefly when presented with it. Actually that's not true, I know of one sour-puss who doesn't like it... My girlfriend, but then by her nature she is entitled to contradict a few of my choices, it's only fair :D

I personally think that Heroes and Battlestar Gallactica are vastly overated, but I'm glad they are on the TV because they are still quality SF shows.

Still any TV show, or Film that generates so much enthusiasm falls victim of being overated. It's just the rub. I heard all manner of great things about 'Blood Diamond' and it's good, but I didn't think it was that good... But maybe I was just late to the party.

Whatever. Firefly rules!

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Of the six choices, I voted for Heroes, even though I liked Season One a lot. There were too many illogical developments though, and then Season Two was very weak, imo.

I don't think we have seen enough of TSCC to judge it yet.

As for Lost, it's the best tv since Firefly, so I don't think it can be overrated.

I think the ones they put on the list were appropriate (even Firefly) in that they are the shows that the fans go bibilty over and won't stop talking about. I voted for Heroes b/c its the one that i've seen and think doesn't live up to the hype. In fact, I consider myself a fan and I've seen every episode, but when I hear people talk about how its the best scifi out there I can't help but think, "man, has this idiot ever seen five minutes of Firefly or BSG or even Star Trek!" Frankly, Heroes is entertaining, but so far, its just rehashing what X-men did.

Seems like those io9 folk can't make up their minds whether they love Firefly or hate it. Too bad none of the latest Star Trek series were apparently considered 'recent' enough. Show me overrated sci-fi, and I'll show you an oversexed ex-Borg out to assimilate the ratings.
