Anybody else have to go read Issue #1 again and then read Issue #2 again. Very shiny indeed! Very much like a Firefly Episode. Re-readable...re-watchable.

I don't think Mal and Zoe are/were dust devils. Cause...Just because!

Took me a while to figure out the "little shade" thing.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Definitely a comic I could read again and again. The dialog is very much like the banter between the crew, and the writer has the characters pegged.

This one flows better than the first series for me.

Not so sure that Mal & Zoe weren't Dust Devils. Always wondered if they kept fighting once they got off of Hera.

I'm not 100% sure they were dust devils either, especially since they didn't revealed the face of the shadowy-figure in the attack. I keep going back and forth on it myself. But, Mal and Zoe definitely know something more about it than they were "strong-minded folk". There is subtext in their conversation on the balcony.

Btw, did anyone notice the yellow submarine and llama in River's fantasy?

There definitely seems to me some implication that MAL at least, is not a dust devil, not so sure about Zoe.

Question is whether Ephraim is simply wrong, or there's more going on here. Assuming he's not simply wrong, there aren't a lot of possibilities. Pretty much boils down to Zoe or Book (which is, potentially, a very interesting twist, especially with "The Shepherd's Tale" as the next slated story arc).

Just took a closer look at the "shadowy figure" and I might be reading too much into it, but it looks kinda Zoe-ish, if you ask me.

I've also wondered if it were also Book! It has also crossed my mind that the Alliance may specificly be looking for a dust devil named Reynolds. But, is it the same Reynolds we all know and love? There could be more.

Well, this is Joss, so we can expect that it we'll be something we don't expect... which could mean that it'll be exactly what we originally suspected.

That Whedon, he's a crafty rutter.

Yep, that he does. Story by Joss Whedon and Brett Matthews.

Very pretty pictures too!

The art in this series has been phenomenal so far. It has been brighter and the backgrounds fuller than the first mini. I am really impressed how well this one has come together.

As for whether or not Mal & Zoe were Dust Devils, hard to say. As was pointed out that Joss is a crafty one and he's got a bad habit of hitting us with the unexpected. Could be they were, or it could be they weren't, which ever one will get the most shock out of us I suppose.

I am already eagerly awaiting # 3.

I would hazard that there are dust devils and there are dust devils. Some independents may have fought a bit longer than others while still being mostly soldiers while some may have turned to terrorist methods to continue their struggle. The alliance may not spend any great amount of effort distinguishing between the two.

I can see Mal being the former. It's somewhat inconsistent with the way the Battle of Serenity Valley is portrayed in the series but it jibes with snippets in the BDM's deleted scenes, visual companion, and novelization.

I rather doubt the latter. Even cold cynical unbeliever criminal Mal goes out of his way not to harm civilians (and even armed combatants who have tried to kill him before and were repeating the attempt.) I figure big believer Mal would be more so. Therefore if he was involved in something dodgy, rules of war wise, it was probably without foreknowledge.

Of course, Simon was probably asking Inara to teach Jayne how to communicate with other companions

Btw, Some people I know said that Inara might be the one knocked out Mal so she could save him from Ephriam.

I say that it's probably the original people who stole the money.

I'm really enjoying this mini-series, so much more so than the last. TLB was sort of choppy for me, unconvincing with some of the dialog and artwork. This however feels so much more refined and cannon, like an actual episode. There's some beautiful cells that really look like the BDHs and there's dialog to match it. And while it sucks this isn't being being filmed, I think the beauty of the comic is that the art can show you shots that would be considered too big budget for the show but really tie in well with the Verse. Like the beginning chase scene (which would be a brilliant teaser for an ep) or the vacation planet itself, or everyones various dreams of being rich (and everyone's is brilliant and true to character, Book's fake out one and River's making me laugh out loud).

Eagerly anticipating the next one, but sad because I want it to go on like another season.

Gosh, these are good, just finished #2.

I wasn't sure where this storyline would take them as we already know the final outcome in the movie.

They are making me question my perceptions of some of the characters and their relationships, especially what's going on between Mal and Zoe. Has anyone else noticed some underlying tension between the two of them? It's like Mal doesn't seem to appreciate what their windfall is doing to her.

And, I think Inara may be the one in peril this time because of Mal's or Zoe's possible not so illustrious back-story.

This subtle shift in the dynamics would somewhat explain Mal's self imposed isolation from the remaining crew, as we see him in the beginning of the movie.

Is it just me?

i think Inara is very much improved from Those Left Behind. Not so sure about Wash though.

nice little touches - comparing the characters daydreams revealed a lot...

really enjoying Better Days - great to Serenity get these expansions.

Yeah, Inara is definitely better drawn and more complex, than in TLB, although by the time of TLB, she is completely distraught over leaving and Mal is like shocked, frustrated, confused, angry, angrier, and angriest. Did I say mad at the world? I still wish we had some of her back-story. It must be a doozy for Joss to have it dangle like a carrot, as we are getting Book's, in a series, and not hers.

The fantasies add little insights, don't they?

I already ordered #3 on auto 2 day delivery (from two different shippers); ya know the kind of shipping that cost three times more than the item. My hubby hasn't questioned it yet...as it is his idea to live out in the freaking middle of SoCal Wine Country... so not feeling wasteful or guilty at all. Maybe I can get him to fund the sequel without him knowing (lol).

Important people don't do field work.

Don't forget that the Battle of Serenity Valley wasn't the end of the war...Just a part of it. Yes, it probably was the end of the war, just not the official one.

I do like this series quite a bit. Actually, I think its more indicative of the series than Those Left Behind was, but both a very, very shiny.

Wars don't end with battles. They end when one administration says "Y'had nuff?" and the other says, "I reckon."

Even then, there's "t's" to cross and "i's" to dot.
