Hey all,
Was looking at:

(And the "Serenity Con 2007 Nathan Fillion Surprises Alan Tudyk" video) which are fairly recent videos saying that DVD sales are going well.

So is it mainly the case that if DVD sales are still going strong, and perhaps if Joss is happy (and his new project goes well), Fox would consider making a new film or whatever?

I'm basically just wondering how strong people thing this rumour could be?

Thanks!

Don't wanna rain on your parade bud, but that's like 6 months old :/

It created a nice little firestorm when it came out, but so far nothing (obviously) has come of it.

The vid of Jewel Staite which came out recently shows her saying there's a new Special Edition of Firefly on the way, with new commentaries at the very least (since she was asked to do one), but still no news about a Serenity 2.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

That video is over six months old, and we've seen it and talked about it already. We all want it to be true, but Alan talked out of turn. Not saying there will never be a Serenity sequel, but it is not happening any time soon.

Ah, I hadn't realised it was 6 months old. I thought it as from December 06.

Ah well, I guess the new DVD's sales (that Jewel said about) will be looked at carefully though

Fox has a movie studio.
Even if Universal does not want to make another "Serenity" film, I wonder if Fox would do a "Firefly" movie.

From your keyboard to the Hollywood gods' eyeballs, jsf!!!

The short answer to the question of a Firefly film (oh, please, please, please...) is that it would need to look as if it would make money, and probably also satisfy some of the egos involved.

So I guess the next round of milking the fools will commence soon then, huh? How many copys of Firefly/Serenity do you guys and gals own now? The library probably doesn't want/need another copy of "Serenity ~ The Super Shiny Special Deluxe Collector's Edition Editor's Cut", and most folk already run out of people to give them to.

I think you've paid for a new Movie/TV Show about 10 times over now. Those muck mucks at the top sure are filthy swine manipulating you all like that.

Why don't you all tell them that when they come out with Serenity II that you'll buy a whole boat load of Dual Blue-Ray sets of the movies and you'll rebuy the Firefly series on Blue-Ray when the movie comes out too? Put it to them.

Tell 'em that until they do that they can shove those disks up thier fat, overpaid, uncreative, collective asses.

I agree entirely, although simply not buying the new stuff will:

1) Make us depressed thinking about what we may be missing

2) Act as an incentive to not create anymore Firefly/Serenity

Although I'd love to make the Fox fat cats realise we want more, and not just more of the same.

Thanks for agreeing ;)

I figured I'd get a whole bunch of hate mail by now, but it's still early. I just don't appreciate the notion that it's very possible that they never even consider the possibility of making a new movie or even more importantly, giving the show the run it deserves, yet they know very well there is a loyal fanbase who will continue to buy any version of the show/movie that they dish out in vain hopes that it will ever come back. In all honesty, I think that the CEO of FOX should be relieved of his duty with a vote of no confidence if he wasn't thinking of ways like that to generate more revenue from willing partys.

At this point, I think that a better solution would be to organize something where funds are raised in an escrow account, with legitmate lawyers and all the legal mumbo jumbo set forth properly and put a letter to FOX saying something along the lines of "we raised so and so much money, show us the Firefly!" and they'll collect on production of the product that people want, and not exploitation in the form of the millionth rehash of what we've all seen many times already. (Here's where you can finally make yourself useful to those of us in RWED and all browncoats in general Hero )

Maybe it wouldn't work, but I'd imagine that something large scale could be made so that if it doesn't come through that people could recoup a lot of that cash. Even with that money lost if it doesn't pan out, at least people could say they tried without feeling exploited and know that they did indeed have leverage to get the show on the air..... Hell if enough money is raised where it would seem insane that they would turn it down, maybe we'd all start to suspect what some of us have suspected all along and that is Joss had a vision of a future that very well might come to pass (although not on a planetary scale for probably centuries to come), and that there might be reasons other than money that the show wasn't allowed to continue when all signs point to it being a breakthru show that could develop even a much larger fanbase that has it already. I wasn't even on board until spring of 2006 myself and that's just because my brother beat me over the head about watching it for over a year....

(In truth, I really decided to watch it because I was sleeping out on the couch and when I awoke my brother was watching "Our Mrs. Reynolds" and I was instantly smitten with Ms. Hendricks, but we'll keep that between you and me )

6IXSTRINGJACK, I think a lot of the loyal browncoats that are members of FF/Serenity fan forums would agree with you. It is time for something NEW, hell it’s well overdue. Does that mean anything to the suits up on the top floor? The answer, a deafening NO!! They doomed FF from the start or they wouldn’t aired it as they did. They don’t care! They prove it every day. I still hope that sometime soon someone with some authority will come forward and make us all happy because now I’m almost to the point of moving on. I’ll still have my copies of FF (yes I said copies) and Serenity, and I’ll pick up what comics come out if I can. But I’m done spending money on the old stuff. Lets face a fact here. If the movie and tv companies want to KILL something then it’s a simple matter of showing the series out of order, at different times and sometime skipping the show completely for that week, then saying it didn’t make any money. I joined this forum with the hope of showing the entertainment media that this show is worth starting again or that a BDSequel will do a lot better in the theaters. It’s been over two years since that time and they have shown me nothing. There’s some talk about FF with other actors. What the hell is that!!? The complete cast has said they are more than ready to return to Serenity or Firefly so that’s a dead issue IMO.

It’s an old story, the big man showing the little guy he can do whatever he wants, money doesn’t mean anything although they’ve said that’s why the show was canceled (sounds like the Gorram Alliance to me). The “Hands of Blue Guys” should be known as the “Hands of Greed Guys”. I enjoy this board and I’ve made lots of browncoat friends here. I’ll stay true to the browncoat cause and I’ll never speak badly of the show that still warms my heart, but I’m done with pouring money into the bankrolls of these people. I’ll continue to check in but although one pocket is full and has plenty of coin to spend on any new creations of Serenity/Firefly, the other pocket has been drained of buying the old stuff.

Guess that's nuff said, Z out
