I'm home.

My plane landed around 04:00 AM Eastern Standard. I finally managed to sit down in front of a computer for a few minutes before I finally crawl into a bed for a few hours. My mom, dad, sister, brother-in-law, nieces and Princess are all getting some well-deserved sleep also.

Spidermonkey is also home in one piece, and I'm certain he'll be glad to know that I mentioned that to you guys.

Thank you all.

Thank you for the outpouring of love, for the demonstration of devotion and support. It may seem like such a little thing to just go onto a website once a day and 'bump' a thread, but to me, it's a great and glorious gesture of support.

Even as I speak, someone else is now flying Voodoo Child over the mountains of Afghanistan, saving the world. I don't know if you'll ever meet him, but pray for him as well.

Somewhere in Afghanistan, totally new, wide-eyed, scared-to-death kids have taken up the mission that had been the responsibility of those kids I kept watch over. Pray for them. They're young, frightened, but eager to save the world.

I've had the honor and privelege of serving with the biggest damn heroes history has known (IMHO).

I'm gonna go sleep some now. I love you all, and will speak with you all again soon.

Hey STATIC--

Welcome home, buddy.

I'd give you the twenty one gun salute, but I imagine you've had enough of gunfire for a while.

So, instead, here's a twenty-one wink salute (because "wink" almost rhymes with "Gun" if you listen to rap music).

So, here goes--

Preeeeeesent... eyes!!!

Readyyyyyy...
WINK!!!!

WINK!!!!

WINK!!!!

Good to have you back.

Welcome to ThisLand, here's your coat and obligatory crazy passenger.

Hey Static!

I am relatively new here on the boards, but have enjoyed your postings. Even wiped a tear or three away on occasion. Glad to have you back safe and sound, or whatever passes for sound in your neck of the woods. Get back into the swing of things, pronto, soldier! That's an order of the least order-y variety I can muster (Mal-licious does a salute she learned in the Brownies some 30 years ago and exits).

I ain't so good with words; so to do this right here's John McCrae (WWII)

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Static, I never got over 9/11. Do not expect to. But it made me feel a little less helpless knowing you were over there. (pause for a moment to ponder the fact that they really, really thought they'd be able to murder thousands of Americans and get nothing but a few cruise missiles in return. Instead they got you.)

Anyway, thanks. I wish I could have done more for you than say a few prayers. That will be remedied if we're ever in the same drinking establishment at the same time.
