Anybody know where I can find the text of the two spoken intros from the aired versions of Firefly (Mal's and Book's)? Also, anyone know why they couldn't have stuck these on the DVD's somewhere -- I miss them!

Thanks.

Book's Intro:
"After the Earth was used up, we found a new solar system and hundreds of new Earths were terra formed and colonized. The central planets formed the Alliance and decided all the planets had to join under their rule. There was some disagreement on that point. After the War, many of the Independents who had fought and lost drifted to the edges of the system, far from Alliance control. Out here, people struggled to get by with the most basic technologies; a ship would bring you work, a gun would help you keep it. A captain's goal was simple: find a crew, find a job, keep flying."

Mal's Intro:
"Here's how it is: Earth got used up, so we terraformed a whole new galaxy of Earths, some rich and flush with new technologies, some not so much. Central Planets, them was formed the Alliance, waged war to bring everyone under their rule; a few idiots tried to fight it, among them myself. I'm Malcolm Reynolds, captain of the Serenity. Got a good crew: fighters, pilot, mechanic. We even picked up a preacher, and a bona fide companion. There's a doctor, too, his genius sister from some Alliance camp, so they're keeping a low profile. You got a job, we can do it, don't much care what it is."

And there's also the intro from the unaired original Serenity pilot:
"The War to Unite the Planets was six years done, and the victorious
Alliance was spreading its control further and further throughout
the galaxy

Those who had fought for independence and so bloodily lost had no
choice but to live by Alliance law.

Some never would and those few found themselves drifting... flying
to the furthest reaches of the galaxy, to the worlds less civilized
some barely settled where the Alliance might not control their lives.

These were hard worlds, and work was where you found it. Those who
got by lived by a simple creed. Any job, anywhere."

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I don't have the Book intro, but I have an mp3 download of Mal's, can't recall where I got it, but it was mentioned here a while ago. ZaphodB got it pretty close, but was missing a few words here and there.

"Here's how it is: the Earth got used up, so, we moved out and terraformed a whole new galaxy of Earths, some rich and flush with the new technologies, some, not so much. The Central Planets, them as formed the Alliance, waged war to bring everyone under their rule; a few idiots tried to fight it, among them, myself. I'm Malcolm Reynolds, captain of Serenity. She's a transport ship, Firefly class. Got a good crew: fighters, pilot, mechanic. We even picked up a preacher for some reason, and a bona fide companion. There's a doctor, too, took his genius sister out of some Alliance camp so, they're keeping a low profile, you understand. You got a job, we can do it. Don't much care what it is."

I took Mal's intro from the broadcast copy of Out of Gas that I have. It's exact word for word. Probably two versions of that one kicking around.

Thanks.

My theory is that, having been denied broadcast of the pilot in its proper place, Joss was more or less forced by Fox to come up with a quick voice-over "The 'Verse for Dummies" intro; he probably didn't like the necessity of it, and so left it out of the box set. Sort of like asking why the "girl in a box" commercial hasn't been saved for posterity...

As far as I'm concerned, that makes both broadcast versions non-cannonical. Just as well, as they are contradictory on the question of whether Firefly takes place in a single solar system or across an entire galaxy.

I found those trailers over at the Firefly Proximity Sensor site ( http://www.have-dog.com/firefly/).

...Which some probably already knew about, but there you go.

The whole series trailer ones are the ones with 'cosmic hooker' and 'a girl in a box' in them. Ai ya! How anyone watched them after seeing those atrocious things I'll never know!

And the other ones... they give away all the good bits in the upcoming episode! Like Jaynestown... You see the statue, hear the song, everything! No surprises at all! How stupid is that?!

Mal: "We're not gonna die. We can't die, Bendis. You know why? Because we are so... very... pretty. We are just too pretty for God to let us die."
