...if anyone else has ever fallen for someone they met on this site. Is it weird? Is it out of the norm? Has this ever happened to anyone else?
Well it has happened to me and I have recently told this person how I feel and I was rejected. We are still good friends and I'm thankful for that but I still feel like crap.

I need to know if I'm the only one this has happened to or if this happeneds all the time. Also I will not mention the persons name to save him the embarrasment.

Urrrrr....I feel like such an idiot!

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

My answer to that is yes, however I haven't said anything to that person yet, nor will I reveal who it is. She would probably reject me too.

Yeah its a scary thing....telling someone the way you feel about them. I'm really, really, REALLY sad right now....but I'm just so happy we can still be friends.

Also, thank you ecgordon for sharing, made me feel better to know I'm not alone.

I know of one couple, who have fallen for each other on this site. they seem to be in a very normal relationship. So, it happens, but I don't know if it's the way to go for everyone. as to who the couple is, I'll let them reveal themselves to you, rather than come out for them.

There's someone better out there for you and they just don't know it yet.

Truthfully , I can't say that I've ever fallen for anyone 'round here , but I have told folk on occasion that they've made an impression on me...

Having said that , this ain't quite 'the real world' , but it can hurt all the same...

Even in the 'real world' , reality tends to be a commodity in short supply , and things just get weirder by the day...

I've got quite a few orbits on me , and I can tell you , it ain't the years that really wear on you , it's the miles...

Nevertheless , there's not a day that goes by that I don't meet an attractive woman some place , which tells me , there's more of 'em being made all the time...

But , the thing that really strikes to my core isn't just the outward appearance someone has , (though that's important , too) , but the inner sweetness that shines through...

Which means that folk have to meet on more than just one level...

Without a meeting of minds , there's no sense in taking it any further...It would just be a waste of time...

Now , you took a little risk , and with that , there's always a little chance that it won't work out the way that you envisioned...

That is something that probably truly happens to every single one of us...

If it didn't , now THAT would be weird...

One thing I know for sure , Tot , this 'Verse is a whole lot sweeter with you in it...

If I weren't a 'mean old man' , I'd be pleased to hear from someone exactly like you , (not that there's anyone , exactly like you) , and it would be a bright beginning...

You're going to find someone that suits you very well , you just may not find them here...

But , I would wager , they're going to be a Browncoat , anyway...

Yes, I know at least one couple that is together because of meeting here. Though I won't speak for them because it isn't my place.

There has also been several 'singles' threads over the years. Checking the archives might reveal some people who got together literally using this site.

Ahem. But assuming you're not using that term in the verse literation, recently a number of posters have professed their interest in Foster, who I think shunned them all successfully. I did not participate in professin'.

Wow, Shiny has a good memory.

I know of multiple couples that developed out of this site or FF in general. Most didn't come here to find it. And more than a one came about because of a relationship ending and the people here being around to offer support...then grew the new feelings.

So, yes. It's happened. Quite a bit more than some folks know. I can think of 5 couples off the top of my head (self included). If I tried, I bet I could think of a dozen or more.

The problem with professing attraction to someone we meet online is that we don't really know their whole situation. Sure they come here for some sort of companionship, but the details of everyday are lost to us. It's hard to guess what will happen if you admit your feelings. It's safer just assume they are not looking for a partner.

....on the other hand sometimes you have to take a shot.

Heh...HA!

I'll admit to being involved in the "I Love TWG" thread. I didn't start it, and I wasn't looking for anything at the time.

She offers good advice on this subject, and to whit...it was a good deal more difficult than it needed to be. In and of itself, this site is NOT real life, much like the rest of the internet, so, you don't know what the real situation of anything is. It takes a good deal of trust and loyalty to believe without fault in the person you have a thing for. I've been burned, and I've survived and things have turned out very, very okay.

The point to all this is to view it like an exercise in operational risk management. Does the risk outweigh the benefit? If it does, then you're probably looking at trouble. If it works the other way, then you might be looking at something incredible, but the execution in such matters can be problematic. You have to ask yourself if it really, really is worth the hassle. And, there will be hassle.

Also...there will be people crawling out the woodwork to offer advice on this subject. Examine it carefully. Then make your own decisions.

Or, just gun it. That's what I did, and it worked out great!

In this day and age meeting someone on the internet is increasingly acceptable way of meeting that special someone.

I can think of at least one couple that met on here. In the 76th, which has only been around for a year now, has two engaged couples that met through us, and at least one other couple I can think of. Bubblecats chat over at serenitymovie.org has similar stories. In my local crew, we have already had one wedding.

Hang in there, and dont be embarressed, you stepped out on a limb, that takes guts.

MAL4PREZ

Tatertot -

A few years ago, just before a dance performance, the director/choreographer said something I'll never forget: Making yourself vulnerable is one of the hardest things to do, and one the most admirable. That struck a chord with me, because like a lot of people I've always viewed vulnerability as thing to be avoided at all costs. Not so - if I keep myself closed, I'll never really be alive. As an artist, or as a human being.

The risk you took in talking to this person is something you should be proud of. It shows that you have courage and deep feelings that you aren't afraid to own. A lot of folks live their whole lives without doing something so scary.

So good on you! I'm sorry it ended sad, but you certainly have nothing to be down on youself for. I hope you never become afraid of taking such risks!

What Mal4Prez said is true, and really important.

You did an incredibly brave thing to open your heart to someone, and to tell the person how you felt. I'm very proud of you for being so brave and honest, both with yourself and with another person.

I'm very sorry that you are suffering right now. The good news is that it will get better. Not right this minute, and not all of a sudden, but day by bay, little by little it will feel a little less awful, until you'll feel a little better and then a little better than that. And the whole time you're healing from this hurt, there will be people who care about you, who are on your side, who want you on their crews and in their chat rooms and in their lives. I'm one of them, mei mei. And I offer you whatever comfort you can find from my friendship. And that's real.

I have no courage when it comes to expressing my feelings for others. It took me a year to open myself up and tell my current girlfriend how i felt about her i was lucky to find she had also liked me for that whole year but didnt say anything either. You struck out. It happens - no-one bats 1.000. It doesn't mean you're out of the game, just this innings. Step up again, have another swing. You'll never score until you do.

I hadn't intended a baseball metaphor (what I know about the game you could write on a fly's eye with a chunk of charcoal and still have room for postage) but it actually works, doesn't it?

I don't know that I've really fallen for anyone on here. Been mildly attracted to some, sure, esp. when viewing those photo threads.... but there's always some circumstance to preclude anything more, not to mention the common one, that I've had a couple of really, REALLY bad experiences I ain't keen to repeat.

You know something, though, when you find someone who's attractive you might start searching for something you have in common with that person so you can break the ice and get to know them better. Here on FFF, we don't have to search for that something because we already have it: we all love Firefly! So that streamlines things a bit. If I ever attempt to date again, however unlikely that is, I doubt if I would date anyone who wasn't either already a Browncoat, or open to conversion. So this is as good a place as any - there are, as has been stated, a goodly number of couples formed through FFF who are happier than they ever thought they could be.

Most everyone here knows I'm pretty gorram cynical about love, but that don't give me leave to trash everyone else's hopes and dreams. So keep your hopes up and good luck! I started a new singles thread a while back but it died pretty quickly. Shall I go excavate it for ya?

Cynicism aside, even though I'm one of those guys they break up with after the first date and don't want back - I'm still hopeful, however dimly, of finding a River. If it happens, it happens. If it happens here, so much the better.

It's always the chances you didn't take that you regret, far more than the chances you took that didn't work out. It may well hurt in the short run but in the end, you should be able to look back and be pleased that you went for it.

Besides, you never know how things will turn out in the future.
