My kids are 4 and 7. I like the adult humor in Spongebob. Sometimes I chuckle, and they don't understand what's so funny. Do you know Clancy Brown is the voice for Mr. Krabs? He was the original Highlander, and was the guard in Shawshank Redemption. And Bill Fagerback, formerly of Coach, is the voice of Patrick.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Kaylee's full name, how did I get on Spongebob??



Clancy Brown played the evil Kurgen from the Highlander movie, and then the dad of the little girl on Earth2. Great voice ... I definitely didn't recognise it as Mr. Krabs, LOL!

But back to Firefly: seriously, your kids are at a great age to start enjoying SF. There's nothing funnier or more poignant than watching a 3-year old upbraid his dad for not behaving as a Padawan should.

How do you explain the "whore" word that Mal banties about? Knowing my kids, they'd go to school and call their teachers that!

I don't have cable ... I assume that means little-little? My kids are 4 and 6 and *also* enjoy Spongebob. (As do I ... it's nice to see a cartoon with some actual humour in it, instead of those gorram Care Bears and go se like that!)

They sing along with the lyrics at the beginning of every episode. I have no idea why, but they *love* Heart of Gold above all other eps.

He also voiced Wolf (one of a group of supervillain/mercenaries called The Pack) on Gargoyles. Bill Fagerbakke was also on the show, voicing Broadway.

So far, no worries on that particular word, but we'd probably treat it like we treat everything else the kids ask us about: explain the meaning and explain why we do or do not use the word.

For example, we're big Austin Powers fans, too ... and the kids love those movies. But there's a fair bit of pun-like language that ends up sounding bad (such as "Yes, I'd like some chocolate ass cream"). We can laugh at it and use that word *at home, when watching the movie*, but it's not nice to talk like that for *real*.

This works quite well for us.

Also, perhaps we can convince the kids that Mal is actually saying 'hoar', as in 'hoarfrost'.

LOL! I was referring to the "Nick Jr." thing ... our whole family loves Spongebob. I hadn't heard about it until last year, when one of my students (college) told me about it, and loaned me a DVD. We were hooked later the same night.

I'm more than twice your age ... so I guess you can argue you are a *very mature* 16-year old because you enjoy Spongebob, too!

(BTW: the kids went as Spongebob and Patrick for Halloween this year ... I even managed to make them costumes ... for once! )
