Rofl. Ok ok, I’ll share, lol. I love how my comments about gamer conferences is totally ignored because omg boobies!!, lol!

Yeah ok, so, as some of you may know, I’m a natural 30GG – as in, 10 to 11 inch difference between bust and underbust, depending on the bra. So that gets a bit difficult to find bras for, even online. I’ve found one bra I really like, through Figleaves.com, but it isn’t really conducive to formal dresses. Thick straps, thick back, high-cut cups, no cleavage (it’s actually really difficult to get cleavage at my size, because you need so much support and stability, which almost always means separation, and underwire lying flat against the sternum). It worked for my dress last year, which some of you guys here saw, since that was high cut with thick straps, but dealing with that bra can get kind of boring.

I’m also kind of screwed when it comes to swimwear, so a couple of years ago I started experimenting with sewing my own bikinis (I’ve been sewing since I was 8 years old, which came in handy with prom dresses). I’ve made three so far, getting better each time, but there’s still a big issue with the pressure on my neck on the typical bikini style.

So anyway, the dress I’ve designed for this year’s Christmas party (which I’m starting now, at hubby’s request, who hates when I try to finish it in the week after Thanksgiving) is based on some of what I’ve learned making swimsuits:

I didn’t want all the pressure to be on the dress though, so I decided to make a bra-thing to go underneath. Same cut, elastic under the bust, with loops to connect in the cool removable strap things from the one Victoria’s Secret bra I own (34DD – doesn’t fit well at all). Originally I had one strap going around my neck and one strap going across my back horizontally, like a bikini, but given how I want to do the lacing in the back of the dress, that means the horizontal strap would have shown. So instead I hooked one strap from the top of the left cup to the outside bottom corner of the right, and the other from the top of the right to the bottom of the left, so they cross in back, just like the dress, with no horizontal strap.

Once I got the straps the right length (soooo much easier with adjustable straps than sewing my own) and got it on, it was surprisingly comfortable. I’ve been wearing it around the house since, just because. Comfortable is not something that I usually associate with anything having to do with bras. :P So I think this will work really well with the Christmas dress, and be comfortable the whole night. Now all I have to worry about is the horizontal tan line from my bikini. ;)

Ck I am in awe of your talent and ability and REALLY want you to market this bra ( 38 DD here) I too have never ever though the words comfortable and bra could co-exist...frankly I'd settle for no digging in, not being so tight on the ribs you can't inhale properly and no marks left on my shoulders

Ok that dress is GORGEOUS!!!

FLT, I was always jealous of the people who went to E3, they came back with such cool stuff!

CK, you must make a pattern, my wife would LOVE a bra that actually fits(while she can find a bra in a store, occasionally, they never fit her very well and she's always complaining), so that she could make one for herself.

And just because it kinda fits the pda thing:

Well it’s not perfect, unfortunately. I think I’ll still get marks on my shoulders (bit of that already), and the boob shape ends up being a bit different than normal bras (more smooshed, like in a bikini or sports bra, though the cleavage is good ;) ). And I definitely wouldn’t want to work out in it. The major downside, though, is that the straps would stick out in the neckline of most shirts, I think. I’m not throwing out my old bra yet, but this will be a nice alternative, and give me a chance to show off my back for once. ;)

And thanks! I’ll definitely post pictures of the dress once it’s done. I got a really great royal blue satin, and I’m going to cut the skirt on the bias, so I’m really hoping it’ll turn out nice.

omg boobies!!!

Besides E3 is so over already. Boobies are year round

I think I read somewhere D3 will have a playable demo at blizzcon. Though I don't think that will be all that cool. D3 is about building up a cool character. Just a few minutes of fighting some monsters isn't where the fun is at.

LOL Zeek!

Actually, at the last BlizzCon it looked like you could stay pretty long at the demo tables. That area was packed though, with really long lines, so I didn’t get a first-hand view. But yeah, obviously you won’t be able to build up a character in the D3 demo. ;) But who knows, maybe Act 1 will be playable? That would be awesome. I wonder if they’ll have the demo computers networked so you can run around together... Anyhow, I’ll let you know if I get a chance to see it.

As far as the bra, I do have a paper pattern I’ve made and continue to modify, but it would be different for each person. The major problem, I think, is that the bra industry is completely and totally screwed up. Measuring boob size using “cups” that change depending on how big your band is, the stupid band measurement system of adding 3 to 5 inches (why not just label it smaller??), and the refusal to accept that boobs come in sizes other than 32-38 A-D.

So I could scan in the paper pattern I’ve made for you guys to use, but you would almost certainly have to modify it to fit you correctly, and you would need some basic sewing know-how, and probably a sewing machine (can’t imagine doing it without).

Well, I don't have any sewing experience(or very little) the wife does tho, and I wouldn't mind measuring her(gotta be a helper, ya know ) and I know she's always complaining about her bras. She even bought a pattern a few years ago, and tried to modify it, but didn't have a lot of success. I think at one point she tried to design one on paper, but our pesky kids kept distracting her.

Amen to that. I can't wait for SC2. It's one thing that will definitely take me away from Halo 3 (until Halo Wars comes out that is, in which case I'll be torn between two RTSs).

OK so I have a ponder. I watch poker on tv cause I like playing it and watching people win millions doing it is kinda fun.

Anyway this one professional that's pretty well liked was on an episode this Tuesday and he gets drunk and really belligerent. He's dropping F-bombs left and right and really flat out yelling at the casino staff.

So, the ponder is do you think when people get drunk that it shows the real them or do you think the drunk person is just under the influence and not themselves?

I think being drunk highlights aspects of your personality you would otherwise control and not let others see. Being drunk can't make you a different person it just relaxes the control you have over how you present yourself...( and can make you not remember doing things) I've never knowns someone to do something drunk that they would ABSOLUTELY never do sober ( like stab someone or treat people badly when they are a nice caring person) I've seen people do things they regret or wish they hadn't but never something so out of character they wouldn't contemplate it sober.

Ok, I finally got a chance to scan in the pattern piece. Took a bit of creativity, given that it's white paper on the white background of my scanner bed, heh. Dark felt did the trick. ;)

Anyhow, this is it here, sized down for viewing here:

The full-sized image can be downloaded from my PhotoBucket at http://s193.photobucket.com/albums/z82/ryottelora (second one over, dress08-002.jpg).

The piece was originally cut from a single sheet of printer (8.5"x11") paper, with the flat edge for the middle and the lower left hand corner running along the 11" sides of the paper. This is only one side, obviously, so do a mirror image of this for the other boob.

There are no seam allowances on this, unlike traditional store-bought patterns. So you need to add about half an inch to any edge you plan on hemming under or seaming to another piece. I typically add 1.0" to 1.5" to the bottom edge, to turn under for a casing for either elastic (newest bra-thing) or a tie (bikini). In any case, this pattern is meant to be gathered in some fashion along the bottom edge, to make the 3D shape needed.

In the past I've also put a line of elastic along the outside edge, and sometimes the inside (middle) edge as well, to keep everything in place. The top nub can either be attached to a strap (bikini), or turned over to create a little loop for the removable bra strap things.

Every woman is shapped differently, so you'll have to play around with the pattern to get something that fits you specifically. The fabric you use can also make a big difference. I've used only swimsuit/dance fabric so far, which tends to have a lot of stretch, so for fabric without stretch you might need to make the whole thing a bit taller. Swimsuit fabric is great for prototyping though, because it's relatively cheap, and it doesn't fray at all, so you can leave your edges open.

Anyhow, hopefully someone finds that helpful. It's a lot of trial and error, but having bra options is worth it, IMO. :P

Good morning folks!

Made it back from the runnin' and gunnin' over the weekend in Oroville, CA. Awesome little community similar to my own. After running two days in 100+ degree weather (107 Saturday and 105 Sunday) I'm back at work all happy and shiny (and sharing Zeeks tired). MSB might not be in 'til later due to the first day of school in Washoe County. She was such a trooper all weekend serving as photographer/medic/team mother. Despite the work of all my team mates I would have to nominate her for team MVP for keeping us hydrated and photographed. We were able to secure Most Valuable Team for our side which is two in a row for events attended by the Stalker Team.

2 more days until DragonCon.

Ponderable: What's your favorite thing to do at a Convention? Do you like to go to panels, or to spend the whole weekend gaming? Do you prefer smaller, more intimate Cons, or do you prefer to be in the throng of 40k+ people? How does it affect your sleep and diet patterns?

Well, not having been to too many cons; my most favorite thing at BIG ones (like DragonCon - I leave tomorrow - YAY) is to meet all the wonderful folk I've been e-talking with here AND to park my butt and watch the costumes walk by - they are AMAZING!! At the smaller ones (ChattaCon!-hope we're doing that again this year) the room party was a hoot (except, of course, for vomiting boy - heh) Just hanging out with good friends - shopping the dealers rooms - Sleep patterns interrupted and thrown off for days - who cares; food - meh, good breakfast and I'm okay for the day!

But then have to start my new, craptastic hours. Bye, bye 7-3:30, hello 8-4:30. :(

Hope they let you go early Zeek.

(hey, you're a computer gee...guy. What do you think of the Dell Inspiron 1525? It's currently on sale at Best Buy for $599. There's all kinds of special numbers that mean nothing to me. 3gb RAM, 250 gb hard drive, wireless, Vista premium. Whatdya think? worth it or not? )

Lol, Zeek, I don’t know. The company I just quit from is suppose to be having a half-day today (according to the few friends I have who haven’t left there yet), but there’s been a rumor all week that they’re having a pretty major layoff today as well. So the CEO sends out an email to the entire staff yesterday telling them to take some “well deserved time off” and call it after lunch. I can’t wait to hear if that’s followed up with “oh, and clean out your desks” today. :P

Hey Bug! I have the Inspiron 1420 and really like it. The Inspirons are much better computers than they get credit for, IMO. The numbers you have there look good – other than Vista, blech – but it depends on what you want to use it for. At that price it probably has the standard video card, which should be able to handle movies and such fairly well, but isn’t great for games or video editing, for instance.

hehe you're asking the wrong guy. I would never buy a premade computer. I've built all of mine from parts. Where's the fun in getting one that somebody else made?

If you absolutely have to buy one then it all depends on what you want to use it for. Looks like an inspiron is is a laptop. Is it for travel? Cause 15" screen is tiny IMO but if you have to carry it a lot then at least it should be smaller and probably lighter. I've never been a Dell fan since they seem to be all about the cheap parts. I've never owned one though. Basically I'd say that computer will do fine at browsing the web, email, youtube and all that. I doubt it's much of a gaming machine.

I've only ever used Lenovo laptops for work and they seem pretty solid. I'm guessing they're on the more expensive end of laptops though.

There, there Zeek. It'll be okay. Wanna cookie?

Thanks to both you and CK for the info. I would think you have heard me be clueless enough about 'gaming' to know that isn't something I do. I'm a standard computer user. Some browsing, some word processing, some spreadsheet crap, some graphic stuff, some e-mail, etc.

Decisions, decisions.

MSB

NVG and MSB here. Having a great time walking about and stuffs. NavySeils went on an awesome field trip with Rose, Engie, Avery, Roxy, a bundle of of the 76th with MSB and myself to a shooting range. Navy got to handle and fire an assortment of firearms for the first time.

On the dark side of things our luggage took two and a half days to get here. Suckage and smellies. But we have clothes and stuffs now. Pics to follow soon.

Yep, they laid of 6 of the 20 or so people left working there, before sending them home early for the long weekend. Classy. I hope the 6 at least got severance...

See Zeek? It could be so much worse. ;)

Yeah Rugbug, I figured you probably weren't looking for an uber gaming laptop. ;) But some people do like to edit photos or home video on their laptops, or just have a higher quality video card for watching movies on the planes, so I thought I'd mention it.

I've found the Dell laptops to be pretty good (I'd never hand-build a laptop, though I do typically choose my parts by hand on Dell's webpage), though their desktops are not so great from my experience. Hubby had an XPS desktop recently, supposedly their top of the line at the time, and my desktop that we built from parts on a budget two years earlier constantly kicked the XPS's ass, and weighed half as much, hehe. We ended up shipping the Dell to my brother and building hubby a desktop out of parts, which now runs circles around mine, but it's about time for an upgrade for me anyway (plus, my tax accountant says I should, for the write off ;) ).

And FWIW, you can get all the exact same parts in an Inspiron laptop as in their "made for gaming" XPS laptops, usually for about $500 less. I'm not sure what the point of the XPS line is, other than to fleece hapless gamers, heh.

15" is a bit of an odd size, though. A bit too large for comfortable use on a plane, IMO (I like 12" - 14" better), but too small for comfortable home or office use, sometimes -- though I think the 1500 line has widescreens, right? I would definitely suggest checking out the keyboard in person and make sure it's comfortable for you. I used my 14" Inspiron for work for 8 months and had no problem with the keyboard size, but hubby always complains that it's a bit cramped.

And MsB! Glad you guys got your luggage, I was worried for you! Can't wait to see pictures!! :D

*sniff* is okay. I AM GOING NEXT YEAR

I sure hope so, Tex! Pre-register as soon as you can, to save some bucks. Hotels typically won't let you register for the con until the new calendar year starts, typically; make sure you check the con web site:

http://www.dragoncon.org/

For which hotels will have a Dragon*Con room block set aside (for better rates), and lock one in as soon as you can. The actual event hotels are pretty pricey, and then there's the question of convenience versus noise and waiting forever for a crowded elevator to get to your room. The Missus and I prefer a less-expensive hotel within walking distance.

Anyway, it'll be nice to (hopefully) get to meetcha, too! I got to meet 10 Browncoats I know on 4 different forums this weekend, and that was the main reason we went (just on Saturday), this year, after we had decided we couldn't go. It was worth it!
