I seen BluRay playin', and it's cool, but do you guys feel that FF would benefit from it?
Anyone seen FF in HD can comment?
Anyone definitely up to the expensive conversion?
Any gonna definitely stay with stone age DVD?
Anyone think that much more detail might make Serenity look all CGI-ified?
Any wanna sing BluRay's praises?

Well, judging by the response I got to showing Firefly in HD at Serenity 4, you're going to love it. Some people were positively squealing over the rich detail in Shindig's costumes and Serenity on HD DVD was even sharper and scarier.

Saw Firefly on Universal HD at my brother's house when it was aired recently. Loved it and the detail was awesome. Blueray should be even better.

Anyone up for a job in order to get the platinum for a HDTV, Blueray player and Firefly in HD? This time I think I'll let Simon plan it so that things don't go so pear shaped.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I will eventually get a Blu-Ray player, or a PlayStation. I have an upconvert dvd player now with an HDMI connection hooked to a 720p HD-TV. My regular dvds look better than they do on a standard tv, and I've heard that a Blu-Ray player makes regular dvds look even better.

Of course Blu-Ray discs can deliver 1080p resolution, so unless I upgrade my tv at the same time I won't be getting the full benefit. The costs for all this stuff is coming down a bit, and will probably be reduced even more over the next year and a half. Maybe by Christmas 2009 I can afford the system I'm dreaming of.

I am sure I will also purchase both Firefly and Serenity on Blu-Ray, maybe even before I get the player. I've already purchased one Blu-Ray disc, the Five Disc Blade Runner Collector's edition, and can't wait to see it in all its glory.

Blu-Ray releases can be Phenomenal(Blade Runner will make your jaw drop) or barely average(hardly noticable over standard dvd).

It depends on the time and effort a studio takes to put in to it.
Personal experience 70% of Blu discs have been a fantastic improvement over standard dvd, while 30% have been so not worth the money.

Note: LCD hd tv's can actually make standard dvd's look worse than viewing them on a nice CRT tv set.
My Sony Vega CRT set still shines for shows like Firefly(which I tried to watch on my LCD, and gave up..it looked bad).

Chrisisall, I honestly don't know what to tell you. It's a big investment. I still have so many standard dvd's, that I will never abandon that format!

This fall is going to be pretty Damn Expensive. Firefly, and the original Planet of the Apes 40th anniversary Blu ray set for $150. Sometimes owning a blu-ray player, and being a film buff can actually harm you

Thanks OPPYH, very informative, DVD's don't look as good on my HD monitor as on my excellent CRT either.

I missed Firefly during its run on FOX. I came to it in 2004 due to a recommendation on sf writer Jerry Pournelle's website. Jewel Straite had seen him at a convention and implored him to watch it. So, I started watching Firefly off of an upconverting DVD displayed on a 50" DLP HDTV.

Later, Universal HD broadcast Firefly in HD and I watched episodes in HD. There is a lot of detail in the HD picture and I saw things in the background that I had never seen before. This is despite having a very good conventional setup.

However, Universal HD drove me crazy because... it had commercials! I had never seen Firefly with commercials and it disrupted the pacing for me and drove me crazy.

So, I've been waiting anxiously for the Firefly BluRay. It is a credit to Joss that he took such care with the series that when you subject it to the harsh detail of HD not only does it stand up but it is even better.

And, may we please have the Serenity BluRay also?

I suppose it depends on how good a CRT you have compared to the quality of your HD set, but in my case I can see a considerable improvement when watching my standard dvds on my 32" LCD. I am sure it is not significant compared to what Blu-Ray looks like on a 1080p Plasma, but it's still better than regular as far as I am concerned.

How do you have it connected? HDMI, VGA, or Component cable.

I have component on both sets. My friend said that HDMI will markedly improve my LCD picture quality. I still however love my Sony CRT. Especially for watching tv shows on dvd that are full screen.

By the way, I regard "Angel" and "Serenity" as the gold standard for testing how well your TV handles black levels. Joss makes a lot of use of darkness and shadows. If watching Anglel or Serenity, the blacks are really black and not muddy gray, and if the picture doesn't fade into the shadows, then you have a good TV.
